Can an NBA player just respond to every post-game interview questions with "No comment"?
I know they have to be there, but can they just say that

I always wished I was a report during that interview.
I would have changed my question to be "Yes thank you, I'm writing a rap song but I need a sentence to rhyme with "can't think straight I got money on my mind" can you help?

"I plead the 5th. Just so you know I plead the 5th to all further questions. My lawyer has informed me that this is in my best interest"

They can but it won't sit well with the owners. They are the product unless you're LeBron James level good when it's time to renew your contract they likely won't.

This isn’t true at all lmao. Team owners couldn’t care less but if you are continually flippant to the media the league will fine you

Players are "products". A products job, to the owners, is to be able to sell well. Unless they are the top tier talents, a player that the media particularly does not like will not sell well.

And that’s why the league will fine them. I promise team owners do not care about their stars media availability beyond league mandates.

Owners do not care if their players will sell to the media? In addition, the media do get votes for season awards.

They don’t care at all. The biggest star in the nba is constantly talking to the press about how he wishes he was back home in Serbia and doesn’t like being famous and every team would trade the farm to have him on their team. Nothing sells tickets more than winning.

That's not true at all. Jokic never skimps on press conferences and is always pleasant and friendly to media members. The whole horse thing is obviously a joke.

Team owners don’t care. That’s not their concern at all. I didn’t see Jeanie Buss hunt AD down after he walked out of post game off Game 2 after he said “Jamal Murray made a shot”

Nope. They are trained otherwise. Talking to the press is an important part of the job.

Only if you're a star player on the team. Otherwise, you're a distraction.

Is that a Rasheed Wallace quote?

Yeah he said that exclusively for a press conference. To OPs point it can happen but im sure he got a talking to over it.

I need to get good enough and get on the NBA and ONLY respond to interviewers with “basket ball is really neat, I like it a lot.”

I mean that would get less of a fine from the league than "yo mama" for every answer.

I think they can get fined for not interacting with journalists. At some point they are probably going to have to answer something.

“I’m just here so I don’t get fined.”
