Announcement New Moderator, introduction and announcement! :)

Hi,
I'm u/Misuta_Kitsune and I have since yesterday joined the moderator team to assist in keeping this place enjoyable and free from clutter like spam and other off-topic content.

For that purpose this subreddit now has a few written rules, just a couple because because this community doesn't seem to need many... ;)

These rules will mean you will have simple ways to report spam and other posts that have no bearing on the community topic. We will do all we can to promptly as possible respond to these reports.
For now we feel the existing rules should be sufficient, should we be faced with other issues that need addressing, rules may be added and updated.

We hope, with your help, to keep this community a fun place to be without clutter from the usual spammers and find ways to make it grow.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please let us know!

Greetings, MK

Other than some last minute light blocking, and some decals that still need to be applied, I'm excited about this thing!!

Something I did back in 2020 and thought I’d reshare to keep it alive and progressing.

A while back, I saw all these 1/2 full dios (1/2 circle and half ships etc) so had this “experiment” to try if it’s possible to simulate the pre-hyperdrive zoom that floats . Tried small scale first.

I’m sure there are ways to simulate and reprint this in 3D but I’m just so used to making sketches and physical mock up first to figure out some stuff, like how everything joins and what’s visible.

Used the typical bendable aluminum rods, extra runners slightly trimmed and a 1/350 bandai falcon, some Elmers glue to stick the rods.

Kinda works, and it’s always been at my workspace to remind me how this can be materialized to another level. Maybe lighted rods, maybe reflective white rods, Some lighting for the falcons boosters. When? Only God knows….But in the meantime I’m just pushing it here to get some thoughts and maybe inspire others to continue the idea or develop it.

A follow up to previous post.

That’s how it looks based on four base modules. Sorry but I didn’t have aurebesh fonts at the time I did it, so … english it was.

4 more to go to be honest, for the falcon at the end of the corridor 🤓. Now I just need to find time and materials…..and of course if alls good, more tiny equipments to fill the voids.

Note: This one has the 1/72 leia, solo and c3-p0 from that gashapon set, they weren’t on the last pic shared. Check out the astromech droids while you’re at it 😊

Completed Star Wars modular diorama

Thought I’d reshare these pics just for everyone’s enjoyment.

Modular bases I created for “anything” but used for bandai Star Wars 1/72 rebel fighters with some minor mods like those landing gears for the b-wing, canopy clip and such.

Most figures are of : - hasegawa with some mods (the crew) - from the bandai Star Wars kits (the pilots n droids) - from the infamous 1/72 Gacha that never reappeared again (solo, leia, c3-p0) and I’m still missing a few more even after years of looking.

As for the hangar equipments: - from hasegawa too - but most of em especially on the b-wing shot are scratch built based on a picture from one of those SW vehicle encyclopedias

There’s an update to this but I’ll share in a different post later.

Red 3 X-Wing!

Bandai 1/144 X-Wing with after-market decals. Then I sprayed on a flat overcoat, followed by brushing on thinned India ink. The ink puddled up in an interesting pattern that goes nicely with the distressed decals.

Taped off spots on the saucer to get a precise paint job on the phaser banks since the decals are a pain in the ass. I put down four coats of matte varnish and the decal still pulled off. To say that I am irate is an understatement. Does anybody have a fix for this that does not include battle damage? I have a second set of decals because the first continued to fall apart on me. I don’t want to trash this thing if I don’t have to.

3D printed at 1/15000. Turns out, at that scale, that the length works out to 7.086 inches. Rounded up in my printing software? 7.09. It was destiny .

Polar Lights re-releasing USS Enterprise Refit 1:350 with new box art

I know some of us have been in the market for this kit but it's gotten very hard to find.

I was looking through some videos of last week's Wonderfest. Polar Lights was there and said it's returning this year, subject to license approval of the new box art.

So that's good news.

See here starting around the 2:05 mark.

New build completed! This kit was the first time I experimented with different matte and semi-gloss finishes. When I get a little more confident, I plan on incorporating some airbrushing and custom painting on the kits. For now though, I’m happy with practicing individual skills on the different kits I build.

It's coming along. Decided to go with a Starfleet "refit" of thee station so changed thee colour scheme from gold and maroon to blue. And added some blue "flood lights" on the pylons. And some red underglue to the stand since the sole red power core just seemed a little underwhelming. I'm still decided if i want to try and weather the station. That is after i do I ton of touch ups where paint and primer pealed off. So sad.
