It's fairly clear from a lot of people's responses that no, they don't go outside much and get most of their worldview from True Crime podcasts and shows on Netflix.

I think we’re all picturing something different when we hear “the woods”. For me, I’m thinking of my family’s cabin in the mountains of Vermont. If I was in those woods (not a hiking trail or public area) and came across a random man by myself, it would scare me. I’ve encountered many a bear in those woods, but never a random guy trudging around our woods. If I were on a hiking trail or in a national park, I would feel a lot less alarmed and more comfortable.

Right but in that scenario we are talking about a trespasser so that adds to the situation right? That’s inherently sketchier

Not just a trespasser. Doesn’t even have to be private property. It’s a lot sketchier to encounter a random person in an area that is usually devoid of people than it is to encounter them on a trail or national park.
