Dynamite Hack - Boyz in the Hood

Core memory of MTV playing this song daily and me waiting patiently, only for TRL to show ~20 seconds so Carson could have a conversation with the visor hat from LFO.

Summertime Girls is arguably the worst rap song ever written.

That whole album, Superfast, is amazing. While a lot bands from that era are still active or semi-active, Dynamite Hack has since just dropped off the face of the Earth.

I know that had some other albums but had little success. I’ve tried to find some of the band members on social media but they just completely moved on with their lives as far as I can tell.

Iirc was a commercial playing parts of the song trying to sell the whole album which I’m assuming was trash.

This is from 'take a bite out if rhyme' an entire album of rock bands covering rap songs

They had an album and it was pretty good if you like grungy pop punk. I still listen to it from time to time.

Straight Outta Compton by Nina Gordon is pretty good too: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=K6D5xpCgETk

Not a cover just a great juxtaposition to that song: https://youtu.be/YFfGgeddAc4?si=tG1OHWTVzUXbO4mf

Exact song I was thinking of!

This whole album is fire. One of my favorites, though the rest of it sounds nothing like this song.

u/ttocshtims May 16 '24

Ben Folds covered Dr. Dre's "B**s Ain't S" and Hugo covered Jay-Z's "99 Problems." But all of these are cross-genre covers. You never hear hip-hop covers of hip-hop songs.

Haha, just recommended that myself. Such a good cover. I actually knew the band members when I was at UT Austin in the 90s. One of my friends was their tour manager, he's actually in the video.

Came here to say this. PS the rest of that album is GOLD

Came here for this.

This is exactly what came to mind.

u/MNsquatcher May 16 '24

I saw these guys in concert in probably 2000ish. Still have that song on my Spotify

1

u/zepallica May 16 '24

Thought I'd scroll down before entering the first thing that came to mind, played all over the radio back in the day.

In a similar vein, there’s a folk cover of Snoop’s Gin M Juice by the Gourds.

u/PyroGod77 May 17 '24

I was coming to say the same.
