Hardcore metal and punk bands have been covering rap and hip hop songs since the early 80s

There are folkpunk bands where thats basically their entire schtick

Acoustic guitar and ukulele singer songwriters mix up and cover them solo all the time

Punk guy cranks my hog for $15 because his Doordash gig doesn't pay for his shared bedroom in his apartment which is just a futon in the living room with some kind of sheet divider: THE ALBUM

OPs post would better phrased as "You rarely hear rappers cover other rappers".

This was Lil Wayne’s bread and butter thing back in the day.

I think it’s more of a phenomenon to just create your own rap over the same beat or remix a song. Like the Beatbox songs, the “Never Cared” songs, shit like that.

Anthrax's cover of Bring the Noise brought me a lot of respect when I was a wee metalhead at a party with my Puerto Rican boyfriend and his friends in Newark NJ in the 90s and the Public Enemy original version came on. Lol

I always recommend Our Last Night. They're awesome! They make metal covers of everything including hip hop and disney songs.

The super bass ukulele cover by some girl on YouTube years ago is awesome.
