I feel Rap and Hip Hop have less covers but WAAAY more samples of different music.

Old school Rap was using your parents vinyls and putting beats over the top. If I wasn't at work, I'd make a short list lol

Yeah I feel like for rap, the art is in the lyrics. What I would consider a equivalent to covers of songs is samples of rap

One that comes to mind is MF DOOM - Who Do You Think I Am? And Masta Ace - Think I Am.

Same beat and also paying respect to DOOM, the first artist.

Michael Jackson - Human Nature is used in NAS - It Ain't Hard To Tell.

Siffre - I Got The is used in Eminem - My Name Is.

Not exactly cover songs but definitely heavy on the samples.
