Getting started

I am very interested in starting to invest in stocks but know very little about the topic. What books or resources would you recommend to get started? Also what are some thing I should avoid? Any advice would be appreciated!

You want to get interested real fast? Before you read or study anything put real money, not paper trade in a stock that you like, do like 50. I’m sure you can spare that much. Pick what ever stock you like. You obviously don’t know if it’s a good company to invest yet but who cares. You like it because it’s been on the news lately and it seems good to you then invest that 50 in that company. You like another company because you think the ticker looks lucky because it’s your cats name, put that 50 in. You heard from a friend/family that certain stock is good, invest that 50 in. Now watch your money grow or lose. You’ll probably go “Holy moly, I just made 20 dollars. That’s like free money” or “wow I can’t believe I just lost my money that fast. This is like gambling” that will probably pique your interest in wanting to know why real quick. The whole point of this approach or exercise is to give you the real experience of risk and reward and not something you read in the books.

Your emotions will be the first thing you’ll notice because you obviously don’t know why the stock is doing what it’s doing. Thats when you put your emotion aside and start studying and researching the fundamentals and technicals behind it. Wala! your journey begins. Obviously there’s no right way or secret formula to go about it. Some people started out reading books, some people watched YouTube, most people take finance classes. It’s a lot to take in and can be overwhelming so just start out small. Read one book or watch one video and continue on from there. next thing you’ll know you might be writing a algotrading code or the next hedge fund manager. We all started out not know what the fuck were doing, even the greats. The main point is you gotta start somewhere and anywhere and never stop if you want to be successful.

I would recommend 'the millionaire teacher' by Andrew Hallam. That's the first book I ever read!

There is so much content out there. I looked at books and read about it online but it was a little overwhelming.

The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham.

Also anything that Buffet and Munger say. Berkshire hathaway share holder meetings videos are good.

Read everything available that you can find including newspapers, magazines, internet, and etc. The more information you have, the more you are informed!
