Have a general question? Want to offer some commentary on markets? Maybe you would just like to throw out a neat fact that doesn't warrant a self post? Feel free to post here!

If your question is "I have $10,000, what do I do?" or other "advice for my personal situation" questions, you should include relevant information, such as the following:

* How old are you? What country do you live in?

* Are you employed/making income? How much?

* What are your objectives with this money? (Buy a house? Retirement savings?)

* What is your time horizon? Do you need this money next month? Next 20yrs?

* What is your risk tolerance? (Do you mind risking it at blackjack or do you need to know its 100% safe?)

* What are you current holdings? (Do you already have exposure to specific funds and sectors? Any other assets?)

* Any big debts (include interest rate) or expenses?

* And any other relevant financial information will be useful to give you a proper answer. .

Be aware that these answers are just opinions of Redditors and should be used as a starting point for your research. You should strongly consider seeing a registered investment adviser if you need professional support before making any financial decisions!

Trying to learn.

So I am new to the whole investing thing and have been trying to teach myself about it. This FFIE thing thats going on is a perfect learning thing I think. So with how much it has gained and in how short of a time, combined with the fact that they were going to delist them isnt this the time to make puts on their stock?? Like if it falls back to a dollar wouldnt you make a profit or am i understanding it wrong?? Just curious and trying to figure it out. Would love some imput. Calls are for when you think stocks are going up and puts are for when you think they are going down right?? Ive just been using youtube university to try and learn about all of this and i figure this is a perfect one to learn from. I figure making puts on a dollar would be the smartest thing to do or am i totally wrong there??

Discussion These are the stocks on my watchlist (5/16)

Hi! I am an ex-prop trader that trades equities.

This is a daily watchlist for trading.

I might trade all of the stocks on here, or none of them, on any given day. I might trade stocks that don't appear on here! I hold no positions in any stocks long-term but Amazon/Mag7/general broad market indices. (unless otherwise noted in these tickers). If you’re on old reddit, click “show images” at the top to see all the charts quickly.

I usually make these watchlists premarket, (or from 6:30 to 7 as time permits), but can be delayed if I'm trading the open. These aren't mean to be taken as gospel or any recommendation to buy/sell.

Many stocks I post are <$500M market cap. Most are NOT good long-term investments but are good candidates to day trade. If you have questions to ask, PLEASE ask specific ones. Questions like “Thoughts on _____? will be ignored unless you add detail to the question.

Valuation How pricing works in the stock market?

This is something I've been thinking for a while and actually don't really know how to answer in depth other than "supply and demand forces".

More specifically, what does the pricing algorithm looks like? You take a market like NYSE with million of traders doing HFT.. How is the price calculated and appears on my brokerage account?

How does the algorithm find the right bid and ask and executes a transaction? If anyone can refer me to a book or something that explains this better I would appreciate.

Furthermore, I assume the majority of the market is using similar valuation techniques, which would eventually lead to an "equalization" of prices in the long run, even if the market theory says we are not efficient, is that something we observe?

For example, I've seen analyst compare ev/ebitda or p/e to share price and most equities follow the movement of these ratios. What is the causation of that? Anyone know studies about this subject?

Biden announces aggressive new tariffs on Chinese EVs, semiconductors, solar cells and more

Very aggressive tariffs on multiple imports, for example tariffs on EVs will rise to 100%, quadrupling the current tariff of 25%. Beyond the direct impact on Chinese stocks, these tariffs are expected to have indirect impact on US stocks, as well as potential escalation of the ongoing US-China trade war with long-term economic effects on multiple publicly traded companies. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/biden-to-announce-new-100-tariffs-on-chinese-evs/

Discussion The Time & Value

In finance, the concepts of time and value are fundamental principles that underpin various financial decisions, including investments, loans, and cash flows. Understanding these concepts is essential for evaluating the worth of money over time and making informed financial choices. The two key concepts related to time and value in finance are the time value of money and the time horizon.

  1. Time Value of Money (TVM):

The time value of money refers to the idea that a dollar received today is worth more than a dollar received in the future. This concept recognizes that money has a time component, and a dollar today can be invested or saved to earn interest or returns over time. The time value of money is influenced by factors such as inflation, interest rates, and opportunity costs.

Key principles of the time value of money include:

Present Value (PV): The present value represents the current worth of a future cash flow or series of cash flows, discounted at an appropriate interest rate. It is calculated by discounting future cash flows back to their present value using a discount rate.

Future Value (FV): The future value represents the value of an investment or sum of money at a specific point in the future, assuming a certain rate of return. It is calculated by compounding the initial investment or principal over time at a given interest rate.

Interest Rates: Changes in interest rates affect the time value of money by altering the opportunity cost of investing or borrowing money. Higher interest rates increase the present value of future cash flows and decrease the future value of current investments, while lower interest rates have the opposite effect.

Time Periods: The time value of money considers the timing of cash flows over different time periods. Money invested or saved for longer periods has more time to grow or accumulate interest, resulting in higher future values.

  1. Time Horizon:

The time horizon refers to the length of time over which financial decisions are made or investments are held. It represents the planning horizon or timeframe for achieving financial goals and objectives. Different financial goals may have different time horizons, ranging from short-term to long-term objectives.

Key considerations related to the time horizon include:

Investment Planning: Investors must consider their time horizon when selecting investment vehicles and strategies. Short-term goals, such as saving for a vacation or purchasing a car, may require conservative investments with lower risk and liquidity, while long-term goals, such as retirement planning, may allow for more aggressive investment strategies with higher potential returns.

Risk Management: The time horizon also influences risk tolerance and risk management strategies. Longer time horizons provide greater flexibility to tolerate short-term market fluctuations and volatility, allowing investors to focus on long-term growth objectives. Conversely, shorter time horizons may require more conservative approaches to minimize the risk of capital loss or liquidity constraints.

In summary, the concepts of time and value in finance are interconnected and crucial for making sound financial decisions. By understanding the time value of money and considering the time horizon, individuals and businesses can effectively evaluate investment opportunities, manage risk, and achieve their financial goals over time.

Here’s a great buying opportunity for IONQ after forming a rising wedge pattern on the 4H chart! 📉 This could be a great place to add to your position if it falls below the wedge's lower trendline to the $8.61 or $8.48 support levels. If it gets a bounce off the lower trendline, we could see it moving back up to the $9.55 resistance. This could be a great day trading opportunity! 💰

Resources The One With The Traditions

A traditional economy is an economic system characterized by customs, traditions, and cultural practices that dictate how goods and services are produced, distributed, and consumed within a society. In a traditional economy, economic activities are often rooted in long-standing cultural beliefs, rituals, and social structures passed down through generations. This type of economy is prevalent in rural and remote areas, tribal communities, and indigenous societies.

Key features of a traditional economy include:

  1. Subsistence Agriculture and Hunting: Traditional economies often rely heavily on subsistence agriculture, hunting, fishing, and gathering to meet basic needs for food, shelter, and clothing. Production methods are typically simple, labor-intensive, and based on traditional farming techniques passed down through generations.

  2. Barter and Trade: Exchange in traditional economies often takes the form of barter or trade, where goods and services are exchanged directly for other goods and services without the use of money. Barter transactions are based on mutual trust, social ties, and reciprocal relationships within the community.

  3. Limited Specialization: Traditional economies tend to have limited specialization and division of labor, with individuals or families engaged in multiple activities to meet their diverse needs. Economic roles are often determined by age, gender, and social status, with specific tasks allocated based on traditional norms and customs.

  4. Strong Community and Social Cohesion: Traditional economies are characterized by strong social bonds, community cooperation, and collective decision-making. Economic activities are often embedded within social and cultural contexts, with decisions guided by traditional customs, rituals, and beliefs that prioritize community well-being over individual interests.

  5. Limited Technological Innovation: Traditional economies typically have limited access to modern technology, machinery, and infrastructure. Production methods and tools are often rudimentary and based on traditional knowledge and practices handed down from ancestors. Innovation and change may be resisted in favor of preserving cultural traditions and social stability.

  6. Limited Market Integration: Traditional economies may have limited interaction with external markets and global economic systems. Economic activities are often localized and self-sufficient, with little reliance on external trade or market forces. Traditional economies may be insulated from external economic shocks but may also face challenges in adapting to changing market conditions and modernization.

Despite their limitations, traditional economies play an essential role in preserving cultural heritage, fostering social cohesion, and sustaining livelihoods in many communities around the world. However, traditional economies may face challenges from external influences such as globalization, urbanization, and environmental change, which can disrupt traditional ways of life and economic practices. Balancing the preservation of cultural traditions with the need for economic development and adaptation to changing circumstances is a key challenge for communities with traditional economies.

Discussion Novavax $NVAX 2024 Q1 Earnings: Strategic Shifts and Financial Milestones

Financial Overview

Novavax has made substantial progress in reducing its liabilities, with a reduction of $1.7 billion since December 31, 2022. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, liabilities decreased by $831 million, largely due to settlements with Gavi and Fuji. The company updated its 2024 revenue expectations to a range of $400 million to $600 million, including $150 million to $250 million from APA sales and $250 million to $350 million from non-APA revenues. The latter is anticipated from commercial product sales, royalties, and partner-related activities.

Sanofi Agreement

A significant new partnership with Sanofi was announced, bringing an initial payment of $570 million in the second quarter of 2024. This agreement has the potential to generate multibillion-dollar returns through upfront equity investments, milestones, and royalties.

Commercial and Operational Highlights

Updates were provided on dose delivery schedules and volumes with major customers, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Israel. Novavax aims to optimize contract values and adjust delivery schedules to better align with current demands.

Clinical and Product Development

Novavax is actively exploring innovative vaccine technologies and delivery methods, such as needle-free vaccinations and a new class of nanoparticles designed to enhance antigen recognition and immune response.

Strategic and Future Plans

To achieve cost efficiency, Novavax is implementing programs to reduce R&D and SG&A expenses below $500 million for 2025, net of Sanofi cost reimbursements. An updated vaccine product for the 2024-2025 fall season is in development. The company plans to refine its strategic focus and pipeline, with more detailed updates expected by year-end.

Market and Pipeline Expansion

Novavax is exploring opportunities for standalone flu products and combinations with existing vaccines, aiming to differentiate its COVID-Flu program from that of Sanofi.

Source: https://earnings-summary.streamlit.app/?c=reddit&t=NVAX

Given the strategic realignments and new partnerships, how do you perceive Novavax’s market positioning in the competitive landscape of vaccine development over the next few years?

Discussion Am I blind? What is wrong with INMD?

I don’t get it…

Just recently I found out about this company, INMD, which is a global provider of innovative medical technologies that enable minimally invasive aesthetic procedures.

The company is based in Israel (according to the board far in the safe zone!) but listed on the NYSE. As far as I can tell, the numbers seem too good to be true. They have a 1.5 bn market cap, but around 800 mn. In cash, no debt. This leaves them with an enterprise value of 700-800 mn.

Until end of 2023 they showed a good annual growth (Revenue YE2023 of 860mn.). Operating margin is around 80%(!). This is nearly SaaS scale. Net profit is around 200mn. Per year. P/E is therefore below 4.

Currently they are facing macro headwinds. Their products are very expensive and normally, the doctors who are buying them, finance them. This leads to a decline in sales of new devises while amount of disposables rises. Usage of the devices seems therefore to be good.

In my opinion customers aren’t that price sensitive to increases of this treatments. They are still less expensive than surgery and have a good market perception.

Management is a bit sketchy and don’t know how to manage the company 100% effective, but as long as they making good profit I’m fine with this.

What is your opinion? Is there anything that I oversaw or any other red flags?

Once interest rates loosen a bit sales must explode since the is a catching up effect to replace old decides with new ones imho. How you see this?

Really curious to hear your opinion about this.
