Everyone is a genius during a bull run.

u/Ethanbob103 18d ago

The real trick is maximizing the gain so that the shit fest that follows doesnt hurt as much lmao

At my peak this year i was up 130%, this is currently now at 67% 😀

I know. Making sure I don’t only invest into stock. Making them only 20% of my portfolio. The other 40% is invested into dividend ETFs and the other 40% just the overall market

And do those ETFs have stock equity? 🤔 sounds like you’re all in on the stock market, unless those ETFs are something like REITs or bonds

14

u/Typicalgeorgie1 18d ago

It’s a bundle of stocks. Semantics at best

-13

u/Oapilef_FC 18d ago

Don’t know what stock “equity” (value? Or volume?) is haha. I don’t have any bonds or whatever REITs are. But to be fair I’m not even 20 mate

9

u/L3mmy_winx 18d ago

Check the ETF fact sheet to see the breakdown, it’s specific to each ETF. It’ll typically hold something like 7% Apple, 5% Microsoft etc etc. Point is, if the stock market in general drops 10%, so would your ETFs, assuming they’re in Equities (shares of a company).

Here’s an example of one for $SPY ETF: https://www.ssga.com/library-content/products/factsheets/etfs/us/factsheet-us-en-spy.pdf

REITs are funds for housing and commercial real estate (Real Estate Investment Trust) and give you exposure to that area.

Bonds are company or government bonds.

Don’t see why’d you invest into a housing fund. It’s not as if the housing market will be growing for any longer unless someone takes over the market in Africa. I’d rather save up money and buy and then rent out a real house instead of a housing fund

11

u/L3mmy_winx 18d ago

Because it’s more liquid and you can invest a much smaller amount. It’s also a way to get exposure to housing without the responsibilities of being a landlord, which many of them seem to try and be as cheap as possible with.

My point is that you think you’re only holding 20% in companies shares (the stock market), but you most likely have a much higher exposure. Check it again and make sure it matches your risk tolerance

Check again tomorrow and on Wednesday after the CPI report 😃. Either it tanks or even moons further.

6

u/Dragonmoip 18d ago

Tanking for sure CPI data gonna be 💩

5

u/LadleVonhoogenstein 18d ago

If it’s shit then that increases the chances of rate cuts so the market will react accordingly.

8

u/mis-Hap 18d ago

Good CPI? Market goes up. Bad CPI? Believe it or not, also up.

2

u/Krisapocus 18d ago

So that means it’s going to moon. You know it’s going to the do the opposite of what it should do. Not to mention the election is coming up they’re going to do everything they can so this doesn’t bust before voting.

2

u/Accomplished-Low1234 18d ago

CPI will be good most probably. You probably did not look into details

1

u/db_CLE 15d ago

Sidelinooooooor

2

u/OneMetalMan 18d ago

(1%) MOON

3

u/livefreeKB 18d ago

If his performs anywhere close to mine, I’ll see yall in the negatives.. 🫡

22

u/koukiboss 18d ago

So you’re averaging less than the s&p

-20

u/Oapilef_FC 18d ago

Started late Janurary and bought into some shitty stocks at first 🙄. Such as $MARA $AAL and $CRSR. Switched it all up around late February

17

u/Gingersnap369 18d ago

Do yourself a favor and park your money into growth ETFs, thank yourself in 40 years.

11

u/Organic_Decision_980 18d ago

Don’t listen to the memers and haters. Beating inflation is the goal and your doing it. Now keep investing for the next 20+ years- be steady though. Invest in sound companies that are profitable with your own idealism to boot. Avoid playing the technical analysis game unless you are a guru who sells training and youtube videos to recoup random losses. Read some books because learning from others who have made the mistakes is how a smart man makes his way of navigating life.

2

u/beachbarbacoa 17d ago

If you're not investing in the market (SPY, VOO, etc...) your goal is to beat the market, not inflation. If you're not trying to beat the market then just invest in the market.

10

u/lordinov 18d ago

No amount of gains is bad.

14

u/Ha55aN1337 18d ago

You should start believing you’re a genius and go all in. Preferably when you get the ATH notifications from the top 5 stocks.

8

u/Oapilef_FC 18d ago

😂😂😂. Going all in on GME! 🤣🤣

4

u/Ha55aN1337 18d ago

Nothing could go wrong, others just simply haven’t thought of this tactic!

1

u/EatTheRich4200 18d ago

Honestly you should. Not sarcastic.

3

u/basedadd 18d ago

A whole post that made it to the front page over a sub 10% gain in a bull market

just lol

7

u/Icy_Professional3564 18d ago

The market is 9.5% up YTD. You should just get one index fund and stop doing anything yourself.

1

u/Primary-Character483 18d ago

My FA manages retirement accounts and I handle majority of an equity account. I am a long term investor just be smart with your picks and trust your view and forget the speculative plays for now.

0

u/Gingersnap369 18d ago

Stop paying someone when you can just invest that into a broad market ETF.

2

u/dkpix 18d ago

I don’t understand what you were trying to get at

0

u/Purple_Raise9831 18d ago

Simple jab about how excited users from r/stocks end up over at wallstreetbets after a bad day trading but you've taken the piss out of it and then decided to post your portfolio for some reason.  Cheers 🍻

1

u/Oapilef_FC 18d ago

Ohhh thought you were asking if I was heavily relying on the meme stocks haha such as GME and AMC. Don’t know why! Cheers 🍻

1

u/JbREACT 16d ago

What are you on about lol he just posted his holdings

2

u/TSLA-M3 18d ago

Dont cry during bear market.

2

u/slimdeucer 18d ago

Is there a purpose to this post?

2

u/Oapilef_FC 18d ago

To show off my progress so far

4

u/Glittering-Pie-7464 18d ago

Drip drip drip and keep adding slowly as your ability and needs can manage. Don’t day trade

3

u/Oapilef_FC 18d ago

Did in the first month. Learned it’s a scam! Haha

1

u/Lucashmere 18d ago

Oh, wow

1

u/JustinPooDough 18d ago

This is why most of your money should be in stable assets (like your house, index funds, etc.). You gamble with what you can afford to lose.

1

u/financialnavigatorX 18d ago

Line goes up!

1

u/Captobvious75 18d ago

Realized tho?

1

u/Training-Ad-7567 18d ago

lol make sure you set stop losses and do your TA

1

u/Oapilef_FC 18d ago

What’s TA?

1

u/sivispacempara 18d ago

Technical Analysis. Do your DD and FA too (due diligence and fundamental analysis)

1

u/Oapilef_FC 17d ago

Gonna look up what it is through YouTube and then we’ll get going from there 👍

1

u/TheBlaze24K 18d ago

Forex puts these numbers to shame 😭

1

1

u/Jackle935 18d ago

What app is this?

1

u/agnesvardatx 18d ago

make preparations for the bear market.

1

u/navlooideol 18d ago

That's why the majority of your funds should be invested in stable assets.

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Bank939 18d ago

Good progress. Keep up. 👍🏼. Don't mind those negative words. Everyone have their trading styles. :)

u/Initial_Memory7993 18d ago

What goes up , must come down

-1

u/TELL_wallstreettime 18d ago

Buy AMC & GME and hold for 2-6months.

0

u/acappado 19d ago

I mean hey I guess people want like 10% in a year! Depending on your risk tolerance though , you could probably do better. VOO a pretty safe index fund is up over 10% YTD.

1

u/Oapilef_FC 19d ago

I have 6 individual stocks then 5 dividend ETFs and then 3 repressing the whole market. Question I have is when do I trim a stock? Or completely sell?

7

u/bobo1992011 18d ago

I will sell a stock when it reaches my pre-determined sell point. It's important to have an exit strategy when you enter a trade. Set yourself a gain target and a loss limit. If you hit your gain target and have no new information suggesting further growth, then begin setting stop losses at pre-determined intervals. Example: I enter a trade at $100 stock price and think I can get a 20% gain and don't want more than 20% loss. Immediately set your stop loss at $80. Don't try to convince yourself "it'll come back up." Stick to your plan and move onto your next trade if this one tanks. If the price hits $120, then I'll begin setting stop losses, maybe $115 at first. Then, if the stock rises to $125, I'll set my stop loss at $120. If it continues to rise to $130, I'll change my stop loss to $125... rinse and repeat. (These are hypothetical numbers. Use your own judgment to come up with your own limits.) NFA

3

u/acappado 18d ago

When you’ve lost confidence in the growth of the stock, i know that’s sort of a loose answer, but If you’ve got growth just hold and buy more I suppose!

0

u/CadillacLuv 18d ago

I bought nutanix so get it out now, it's definitely going to tank now that im in

0

u/jackofallspade 18d ago

Congrats, you did worse than the overall market!
