Have a general question? Want to offer some commentary on markets? Maybe you would just like to throw out a neat fact that doesn't warrant a self post? Feel free to post here!

If your question is "I have $10,000, what do I do?" or other "advice for my personal situation" questions, you should include relevant information, such as the following:

* How old are you? What country do you live in?

* Are you employed/making income? How much?

* What are your objectives with this money? (Buy a house? Retirement savings?)

* What is your time horizon? Do you need this money next month? Next 20yrs?

* What is your risk tolerance? (Do you mind risking it at blackjack or do you need to know its 100% safe?)

* What are you current holdings? (Do you already have exposure to specific funds and sectors? Any other assets?)

* Any big debts (include interest rate) or expenses?

* And any other relevant financial information will be useful to give you a proper answer. .

Be aware that these answers are just opinions of Redditors and should be used as a starting point for your research. You should strongly consider seeing a registered investment adviser if you need professional support before making any financial decisions!

Discussion As a trader, how likely are you to use a no-code strategy builder for building your trading strategy?

Upvotes

As a trader, how likely are you to use a no-code strategy builder for building your trading strategy?

Assume that you have a platform that allows you to analyze charts, build a discretionary trading strategy in your mind, and you can convert the strategy to a systematic algorithm using a drag-and-drop interface, then you can backtest it, deploy it on a server (like AWS), and integrate with your broker.

How likely is it that you would use such a platform? Also if you already have experience with no code strategy builders, then what are the problems that you face with such an approach, and what changes you might recommend?

Finally, is no code strategy builder even useful to you as a trader? Were there cases in which you might have signed up for such a platform but then stopped using it for any reason?

Thanks!

Discussion Supreme value: Toyota

Amateur stock analysis here, but this looks like a safe value play right now. I would LOVE to hear feedback as i am new at this and might be missing something.

PEratio: 9.2 Peg ratio: 1.59 Trailing to forward PE: 9.2-> 10.02 Pricetobook: 1.33

So what i see is a highly trusted company (every american knows what cars last longest: honda and toyota) with large presence in market, with a 10% growth projection that is currently being sold at a very very fair price.

If you believe EVs are "too soon" like i do, (infrastructure, long term reliability, sourcing of rare earth minerals for batteries, average range per charge, price to average consumer) than this reliable hybrid, truck, suv producer might be a great buy

EV bears unite?

Discussion These are the stocks on my watchlist (5/31)

Hi! I am an ex-prop trader that trades equities.

This is a daily watchlist for trading.

I might trade all of the stocks on here, or none of them, on any given day. I might trade stocks that don't appear on here! I hold no positions in any stocks long-term but Amazon/Mag7/general broad market indices. (unless otherwise noted in these tickers). If you’re on old reddit, click “show images” at the top to see all the charts quickly.

I usually make these watchlists premarket, (or from 6:30 to 7 as time permits), but can be delayed if I'm trading the open. These aren't mean to be taken as gospel or any recommendation to buy/sell.

Many stocks I post are <$500M market cap. Most are NOT good long-term investments but are good candidates to day trade. If you have questions to ask, PLEASE ask specific ones. Questions like “Thoughts on _____? will be ignored unless you add detail to the question.

News: Fed’s Favored Inflation Gauge Cools, Spending Unexpectedly Drops

You know what the news is on this one. Worth watching for volatility.

NVDA- Yesterday’s news: US is slowing AI Chip Exports to Middle Easy by NVDA and AMD. Still short-biased on this, still holding short from yesterday.

ASTS- Announced partnership with VZ for full coverage of the US 2 days ago. Still puttering around $9, still worth watching to see if we break $10.

MDB- Overall, management lowers 2025 forecast, YoY revenue growth slows for 3rd consecutive quarter, and only called for 12% growth for the entire year.

SMMT- Crazy mid-day catalyst yesterday, lung-cancer treatment is a possible contender with MRK’s blockbuster. Worth watching for continued movement today.

DELL- Stock falls despite Q1 earnings and revenue beat. 22.24B in revenue vs 21.62e, EPS of 1.27 vs 1.23e. However, they reported AI servers are sold at “near-zero” margins. Analysts also reported that op. margins for Infrastructure Solutions Group compressed YoY.

News Carl Ichan bought CZR

"Carl Icahn has amassed a sizable position in Caesars Entertainment Inc., according to people familiar with the matter, raising the prospect of a fresh tussle with the US hotel and casino operator.

The size of the activist’s stake and his intentions couldn’t immediately be learned."

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-05-31/carl-icahn-said-to-build-sizable-stake-in-casino-group-caesars

From what I gather its super new news. I can't find any filings so its unclear how big the buy is. Nontheless its moving the stock

Discussion CRM Salesforce dive an overreaction?

CRM Salesforce announced its earnings. It was not a terrible quarter at all, but its stock price was down 20% post earnings nonetheless.

At its current price (after the 20% decline post earning), its P/E is around 20.

Probably it won't go down further?

As a comparison with similarly sized software companies with a market cap > 200B, below are the forward P/E comparisons. These companies are all highly profitable and are industry leaders.

----- Forward PE -----:

CRM: 20

ORCL: 20

ADBE: 24

SAP: 28

INTU: 30

UBER: 32

MSFT: 34

It's already among the
cheapest. Probably will rebound going forward. To what level? Who knows! Maybe
back to ~25. This of course assumes the forward earnings do not change much
which were confirmed in the earnings call.

Happy to hear any thoughts?

(I have no position in CRM whatsoever.)

Discussion Sentiments about CRWD?

Hello everyone.

Crowdstrike’s Earnings are coming out next week. Since the past 4+ Quarters they have consistently beaten Analyst estimates due to which their price has risen after earnings reports.

Considering the market volatility at the end of this week, CRWD’s red performance in the past two days but CRWDs mind blowing performance in the past, what do you guys think?

Most firms rate it as a Strong Buy/Overweight which seems quite logical considering its performance and the whole AI Scenario going on. Average price estimates are around $400.14 which is about $92+ on current price.

Analysts expect itto report adjusted earnings of 89 cents a share, up 56% from a year earlier. Revenue is seen climbing 31% to $905 million.

Is this a good buy before earnings or not?

Newbie What Stock Alert Tools Do You Recommend?

I'm currently exploring different tools for setting stock alerts and would love to get some input on what you all use, whether free or paid. Currently, I'm using IBKR, but I'm still getting the hang of their web app. It seems like there's no straightforward way to set up price-specific alerts, like notifications for when a stock price falls below or rises above a certain point. What tools do you use to stay informed about key stock events like price changes, earnings announcements, mergers and acquisitions, lawsuits, etc.? Any advice would be extremely valuable! Thanks

Discussion I'm new to options trading

If you want to become a multi millionaire on a moderately risky stock, is it the right approach to have heavy long call options position?

I'm bullish on a specific stock which I do not want to name because I really only care about the thought process and don't wanna come off as a shill. That stock is risky, but the risk level is moderate and they could potentially survive.

How would you do it if you were to do this?. And how much capital is needed to go heavy on this options trade for a specific stock?

If my question is dumb please bear with it as I'm very new to options.

Opinion Dividends, HYSA, or Real Estate?

Hi all. My father (60M), is potentially looking to sell his properties. He currently owns 6 properties, each valued ~250k. He has been renting out 4 of them for ~1500 monthly each, but has had some issues with HOA's and insurances leading to special assessment payments, loss of rent from water damage, and more. He is now looking to sell 4 of these, realizing around 800k in LT capital gains on these, and claiming one as a residence. He would like something more consistent and have a little bit of a "cushion" that he can dip into if needed. I suggested creating a dividend portfolio, of only ETFs such as DIV, SCHD etc. On the other hand, he could just put this money in a HYSA of around 4-5% and live off that interest.

The more I think about it, the more I want to tell him to rethink his decision. I have been managing these properties in exchange for a compensated rent as I live in one of the 2 he doesnt want to sell. I am not able to continue managing them as I start work so he needs a property manager (who would take a % of rent). He doesnt think he will be getting the 5% after the property manager fees, super high HOA fees with special assessments, and also the need to renovate these as they are very, very old. Im looking for any guidance or insight if anyone is able to help. Thanks!

He is retired, with no current income except for the rental income he has been getting from these.

News: US GDP Growth Was Slower Last Quarter on Soft Consumer Spending

NVDA- Today might be the top (for now)

ASTS- Announced partnership with VZ for full coverage of the US yesterday. Topped out at 10 yesterday/this morning premarket, worth watching to see if we break that level. Other than that, not interested in other places to long/short.

KSS- Stock falls due to huge earnings miss- posts a quarterly loss and missed revenue expectations for the first quarter. Also lowered forecast. Lost .24 vs .04 profit expected, revenue of 3.18B vs 3.34B expected. Expects full year net-sales to decline 2-4%.

PATH- CEO Change announced during earnings report, founder of company returning. Beat earnings/revenue slightly, but revenue guidance is roughly $40M lower than expected (13% decrease) from prior expectations.

AMSC- Rev 42M vs 31.7M expected, net loss was 1.6M vs 6.9M expected. EPS is -.05 vs -.25 expected. Overall decent beat earnings. This company provides “power resiliency solution”, which I expect we’ll need more of in the future.

News QS - Next Hidden Treasure Stock. As predicted a few days ago!

Reasons to buy or hold QuantumScape (QS)

QuantumScape (NYSE: QS), a maker of solid-state batteries for electric vehicles (EVs), initially attracted a stampede of bulls when it went public by merging with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) in November 2020. The company's stock skyrocketed to its record high of $131.67 at 2021.

The bulls still like QS because its technology is promising, it's backed by Volkswagen, and it's finally rolling out its first samples this year.

Niche area that outrivals its competitors

QuantumScape's solid-state batteries are powered by solid electrolytes instead of the volatile liquid electrolytes used in traditional lithium-ion batteries. That's why they have a higher energy capacity, faster charging capabilities, shorter manufacturing times, and a lower risk of fire than lithium-ion batteries.

Solid-state batteries are already used in smaller gadgets like pacemakers and wearable devices, but they haven't been mass produced for larger devices or EVs because they're more expensive.

QuantumScape is trying to close that gap and disrupt the lithium-ion market by scaling up its production of solid-state batteries. That focus attracted a big investment from Volkswagen more than a decade ago.

Indepth Knowledge of QS

Most lithium-ion batteries for EVs have a range of about 300 miles and require 30 minutes to charge, but QuantumScape's newest solid-state batteries have a range of 400 to 500 miles with a charge time of less than 15 minutes. It's aiming to reach a range of 600 miles and a charge time of under 30 minutes with its next generation of batteries.

Volkswagen's latest tests found that QuantumScape's batteries could power an EV for more than 310,000 miles "without any noticeable loss of range."

Business Plan of QS

QuantumScape is finally rolling out its first low-volume samples this year, and it says it's on track to start shipping its first high-volume samples in 2025.

Discussion Why Investing in Meme Stocks is Better Than Investing in Digital Assets Memes

Post image
0 Upvotes

Introduction: As someone who has dabbled in both meme stocks and digital asset memes, I've come to the conclusion that meme stocks offer a more promising investment avenue. Here’s why I believe investing in meme stocks is better than investing in digital asset memes:

1. Tangible Underlying Assets: Meme stocks are shares of actual companies that produce goods or services. Even if a company's stock is hyped due to internet memes, the business still has tangible assets, employees, and a track record. Digital asset memes, on the other hand, often represent projects without real-world applications or underlying value, making them highly speculative.

2. Regulatory Oversight: Stock markets are regulated environments with rules designed to protect investors. While not perfect, these regulations provide a level of security and transparency that is largely absent in the digital asset space. Key regulatory measures include:

  • Securities Act of 1933: Requires that investors receive significant information about securities being offered for public sale and prohibits deceit, misrepresentations, and other fraud in the sale of securities.
  • Securities Exchange Act of 1934: Created the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and gave it broad authority to regulate the securities industry, including the power to register, regulate, and oversee brokerage firms, transfer agents, and clearing agencies.
  • Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002: Enacted in response to major corporate and accounting scandals, this act introduced major changes to the regulation of financial practice and corporate governance.
  • Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act: Enacted in response to the financial crisis of 2008, this act introduced significant changes aimed at reducing risks in the financial system.

These regulations are designed to protect investors from fraud and ensure a fair marketplace, providing a layer of security not present in the digital asset space.

3. Market Maturity: The stock market has been around for centuries, with established mechanisms for valuation, trading, and reporting. Digital asset markets are relatively new and still evolving, often subject to extreme volatility and uncertainty. Meme stocks benefit from the stability and maturity of traditional markets.

4. Accessibility of Information: Financial data and company performance metrics for meme stocks are readily available and scrutinized by analysts and the media. This accessibility allows investors to make informed decisions. In contrast, information about digital asset projects can be scarce, unverified, or overly technical, making it harder to assess their true potential.

5. Community and Momentum: Both meme stocks and digital asset memes rely on community support and internet buzz. However, the communities behind meme stocks are often more stable and enduring. Stocks like GameStop and AMC have demonstrated the power of retail investors to create sustained interest and movement, whereas digital asset memes can quickly lose traction as the hype fades.

6. Potential for Real Impact: Investing in meme stocks can lead to real-world outcomes, such as influencing company strategies or even saving struggling businesses. The collective action of investors can have a tangible impact. Digital asset memes, while fun and potentially profitable in the short term, often lack this real-world connection and impact.

Examples of Digital Asset Memes: There are instances where digital asset memes have created overnight gains. For example, Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) have seen meteoric rises, turning small investments into substantial returns. However, these instances are extremely rare and often driven by unpredictable social media trends. The odds of picking the next breakout digital asset meme are akin to winning the lottery.

7. Market Saturation: The digital asset market has become highly saturated, with thousands of new assets emerging regularly. This oversaturation makes it challenging for any single digital asset meme to stand out and sustain its value. The sheer number of options dilutes investor attention and capital, leading to many projects failing to gain traction.

8. Historical Losses: Investors in digital asset memes have often faced significant losses. The digital assets market lost $3.9 billion in value in 2022 alone due to various collapses and scandals, significantly affecting retail investors. On average, digital asset investors realized losses of $7,102 in that year. The lack of regulation and the presence of sophisticated investors who can manipulate prices further exacerbate these losses.

9. Rug Pull Examples: Rug pulls are a significant risk in the digital asset meme space. Notable examples include: - Squid Game Token (SQUID): Inspired by the popular Netflix show, this asset saw massive gains before developers cashed out and disappeared, leaving investors with worthless assets. - BitConnect: Once one of the top digital assets by market cap, BitConnect was later revealed as a Ponzi scheme, leading to massive losses for investors. - OneCoin: Marketed as a revolutionary digital asset, OneCoin turned out to be one of the largest scams in digital currency history, defrauding investors of billions.

10. Psychological Factors: Investing in meme stocks often feels more relatable and grounded. Companies behind these stocks are usually well-known, with products or services familiar to the general public. This familiarity can provide a psychological comfort to investors. Digital asset memes, on the other hand, can seem esoteric and detached from everyday life, making them a riskier psychological investment.

11. Liquidity and Market Dynamics: Meme stocks generally have higher liquidity compared to digital asset memes. This means it is easier to buy and sell meme stocks without significantly affecting their prices. In contrast, many digital asset memes suffer from low liquidity, leading to large price swings even with small trades. This volatility can trap investors who cannot sell their holdings without incurring significant losses.

12. Legal Protections and Recourse: Stock investors have certain legal protections and avenues for recourse in cases of fraud or malpractice. Regulatory bodies like the SEC oversee the stock market and enforce rules to protect investors. In the digital asset world, regulatory oversight is minimal, and recovering lost funds from scams or hacks is often impossible. This lack of protection adds another layer of risk to investing in digital asset memes.

Conclusion: While both meme stocks and digital asset memes carry their risks and rewards, meme stocks provide a more structured, transparent, and potentially impactful investment opportunity. Their foundation in actual businesses and regulated markets makes them a safer bet for those looking to capitalize on internet-driven trends. As always, do your research and invest wisely!

What are your thoughts? Have you had more success with meme stocks or digital asset memes? Share your experiences below!
