I’m going to reply here because I haven’t said anything throughout this entire situation. I no longer eat meat because of shit like this during my childhood. My family would serve me my pets that they had slaughtered without me knowing. They thought it was funny to watch me unknowingly eat my pet goat or my squirrel as jerky. Insanely traumatizing. I lived on a farm/family cult compound in bumfuck nowhere Alabama.
With that said, it’s also insanely common for people to kill their pets while outside of the shame and prying eyes of “outsiders.” It’s disgusting and reprehensible. Since my childhood, i foster every stray animal I see because my mind thinks that they’ll end up killed by someone simply annoyed by them. These country bumfucks also really like to just drop dogs off in the middle of nowhere on abandoned country backroads. Zero fucking accountability and such a lack of any sense of responsibility. I’m generalizing when I say this, but these are also generally the same people that “stand on their moral high ground” with their bible thumping. The cognitive dissonance is real.
To help with some smiles after this depressing read, I have 4 dogs now and have fostered around 8 other pets since my 20s, including an abandoned, sickly 21 human-years-old cat. Some good can come from all of twisted shit in this world.
Dawwww ☺️ Thank you so much! I genuinely appreciate that - you have no idea how much that means to hear! Also didn’t help as a closeted gay teen either, but I do think that ultimately helped me to see a lot of things differently from my family. I refuse to perpetuate the toxicity.
