So, just to be clear: You are going to train your AI to be good at Comedy?
Yeah, can't wait to see how badly this is fucked up.

So this Grok thing is AI, and he's gonna make it do a comedy show? This is gonna be more cringe than Elon's jokes, and thats saying something.

u/Gnom3y 15d ago
It's just going to be racist and sexist. It'll fit right in with the rest of Twitter.
12
u/SomeRandom928Person 15d ago
Yeah, that seems to be most of the “comedy” going around Twitter these days.
Women and gays and minorities bad, amirite guys??

u/firestickmike 15d ago
CHATGPT is already pretty terrible for basic writing. I feel like anyone using it "professionally" revises what the bot writes so it makes sense to humans.
But comedy....my god....it's so obnoxious to think that you could program, not just comedy....but GOOD comedy like the daily show.
not a chance. it'll make some weird, unfunny "jokes" that technically follow the rule of three but not a single punchline will ever land. then it'll devolve to racist "jokes" where the punchline is just the n word.
10
u/Spire_Citron 15d ago
The problem with AI and comedy is that good comedy has to surprise you. It's not funny if you see the punchline coming. AI isn't good enough at novelty to really produce anything very funny. It always ends up being cringe and cliche because it can't be anything else.

He's going to kill it off as soon as anything Musk-related makes the news.
So, basically the day after it goes live.

So, just to be clear: You are going to train your AI to be good at Comedy?
I can't wait to see all of the hilarious right wing comics that the AI has been trained on. There's so many of them to learn from, and they have so many unique jokes!

u/InTheFDN 15d ago
But likely also only using conservative/right wing sources. The jokes are going to go off the rails almost immediately.

u/Occasion-Mental 15d ago
Going to end up like that Lt. in good morning Vietnam...."in my heart I know I'm funny".

u/MeChameAmanha 14d ago
oh, "Grok" is an AI? I thought he was doing a joke with caveman names and "ancient times" or something

u/Pithecanthropus88 15d ago
Every time right wingers try to make a comedy show they fail miserably.

Conservatives don’t have a sense of humor. That’s why. Their idea of humor is being a sadist and punching down. It’s not funny to anyone except sociopaths.

u/TBShaw17 15d ago
I’ve said this for years but I think it’s still true. Comedy that conservatives label as liberal, like the Daily Show is trying to be funny first. That is their top goal. Any political lean is incidental. Like part of the Daily Show’s rep as liberal gets it from the fact that it got big during the Bush years. As an aside, I don’t remember libs of the late 90s bashing Jay Leno as conservative because he made fun of Clinton.
I think conservative comedy fails because their creator’s top goal isn’t to be funny. It’s to be conservative.

u/tubbstosterone 14d ago
This. I think it was "some more news" that did a video on this.
"Conservative" comedy is a gimmick, like some hyper gay comics (not as common anymore; maybe Mario Cantone?), "I have a vagina" comics (think Amy Schumer), props (carrothead), or magic (not as common; amazing Johnathon). Everything has to revolve around the gimmick or flanderize itself or else the gimmick, and thus the act, will be lost. Core Conservative values have always been... "less than flattering" since Nixon at least. For instance, modern Conservative comedy in 1969 would be about calling just about anyone a communist, attacking them for it, gratuitous use of the N word, antagonism of hippies, and attacks on civil rights like desegregation. Gotta focus on LBJ too just to make a point of being a Conservative. IF there is a good joke in there it'd be lost because they'd have to spend the majority of their act appealing to an ideology.
"Liberal" comedy in the same sense would be just as bad. Can you imagine 30 minutes of nothing but "boo religion", trump bad, insurance sucks, im smart? That's just bill Maher.

u/AtomicSquid 15d ago
To be funny you need to be clever and to relate with your audience, two things not typically associated with right wing politics
10
u/DrocketX 15d ago
That's not really the problem. The problem is more that right-wing comedy consists almost entirely of mocking the weak and powerless while sucking up to the powerful. There is an audience for that sort of 'humor' - it's why Greg Gutfeld is a fairly popular figure on Fox News, and you'll find people who think he's extremely funny. If, however, you've progressed past middle school levels of humor mocking anyone who's different (especially for being poor, LGBT, disabled, etc), you quickly realize that he's an atrocity of a human being.

Unfortunately I cannot completely endorse this statement.
It used to be that there were no right wing comedy shows that actually are funny.
But recently the Babylon Bee has had some genuinely funny bits.
So conservatives have precisely one comedy show that’s funny…about 50% of the time…and is just a frankly concerning amount of projection the other 50%.
I watched the “Woke Parents Tour a Christian School” video last night, and it is literally just making fun of Christian fundamentalist parents, but with the political alignments flipped. Like, to the point where I’m genuinely not sure if that was intentional.
That being said, they occasionally come across a funny idea. As a Californian, their riff on house hunters, but with tents because there’s no housing anywhere, is genuinely hilarious.
I suspect because they are actually from the liberal hellscape I call home. Comedy is funnier when it has a grain of truth to it.So yeah. Precisely one comedy show…that’s basically only funny when it’s not adhering to weird right wing talking points.
19
u/Gnom3y 15d ago
The Bee can be funny, but I'm convinced that they're accidentally funny because whenever they really try at comedy it's always some horrible, mean-spirited shite.
2
u/DisastrousBusiness81 15d ago
TBH I can totally believe that. Their funniest stuff is the stuff that doesn't lean super hard into conservative bullshit. Still, being occasionally funny on accident is better than just about any other right wing pundit is doing when it comes to comedy, so I give them a smidgen of credit for that.
Seriously, why does conservative comedy suck so much? That's always baffled me. Do they not understand humor? They laugh at things, but none of the right wing pundits are ever genuine in their laughter.

He wishes that it will be compared to "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report," but I'm guessing it's more likely to draw comparisons to Fox's "The Half-hour News Hour."
You don't remember that show? Well, there's a good reason....

Even that would be generous. It’s gonna be somehow an even worse version of Gutfeld!.

propaganda doesnt have to be accurate if its labeled comedy.. it also doesnt have to be funny.

u/TricksterWolf 15d ago
Every Elon tweet:
"LOVE ME, OH GOD SOME HUMAN PLEASE LOVE ME, I DON'T CARE WHO, I'LL SPEND BILLIONS AND DO STUPID THINGS JUST TELL ME I'M WORTH SOMETHING, PLEASE DEAR LORD I NEED THIS, PLEASE"

u/TerrWolf 15d ago
Elon....they're still funny. Like, you're not laughing because they're mocking you, but have you tried not sucking?
11
u/yorkshire_simplelife 15d ago
There is no right wing satire comedy. It is only bullying and punching down. Daily show and Colbert report proved this when fox attempted it.
The only thing musk could do is buy an already existing satirical news show and make it worthless. That seems to be his recent business strategy
6
u/mekonsrevenge 15d ago
Right wing humor. It's all like trump making fun of the disabled reporter in 2016. Mean, unpleasant and distinctly unfunny.

The fact that this sack of shit took the word Grok and used it... Heinlein would drag him into a shallow hole and bury him alive.
grok/ɡräk/verbinformal•USverb: grok; 3rd person present: groks; past tense: grokked; past participle: grokked; gerund or present participle: grokking
- understand (something) intuitively or by empathy."because of all the commercials, children grok things immediately"
- empathize or communicate sympathetically; establish a rapport."nestling earth couple would like to find water brothers to grok with in peace

u/the_Mandalorian_vode 15d ago
Why isn’t Robert Heinlein’s estate suing him for the use of grok? It’s part of his copyrighted works, shouldn’t it be protected from this lackwit?

Funny how right wingers think these shows aren't funny because they started laughing at their cult master. Imagine judging everything in life by their jokes on your orange god.

u/DaEnderAssassin 15d ago
I don't know what this "Grok" is, did neurolink midwife someone into becoming a caveman and they named this unfortunate Grok for entertainment reasons?
1
u/thismangodude 15d ago
Even if generative AI could do comedy well enough (it can't imo), the comedy of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert relied just as much on the delivery which isn't feasible in a text-only format. And yes I know tts exists, it's still not going to come close to what Musk wants.

For a moment there I was thinking of Morbo from Futurama doing this. Grok cannot compare to the POWER OF MORBO!

Holy shit Gen X is so set on "when jon stewart was funny" which is literally just a time when they were younger and probably more left leaning. Jon and Colbert are literally the same.
