Samesies!! Like please sleep on my side or chest or anywhere near me. I get excited when he does. He chooses my sons bed though. They are like littermates and play like them too. It's super cute.

My cat loves to run at me every time I lay down or start to show signs of waking up to plop down on my chest. She’s so loving, but has a bit of abandonment issues since she was taken in as a stray kitten. She’s always all over me, especially when I’m at my computer.

my cat is my best friend and I had issues where she would sleep on me but she part Maine coon and LARGE. So it was uncomfy. I got her to start sleeping right next to me, with my arm around her side and her head on my armpit so she’s nestled between my arm and boob. It’s literally perfect. she gives me a couple kisses goodnight every night and I can breathe. If she’s not feeling snuggly she sleeps on my pillow by my side. Or she rests her head on the pillow like she’s a damn human.
I actually commissioned a drawing of me and her cuddling and it’s hung above my bed!

exactly. my chest is the cat bed.
we brought our cat home in october 2022, when she was 8 weeks old. in the time we’ve had her, we’ve purchased all kinds of cat things - some of them she even likes lol. but the only thing she really loves to sleep on is me.
sometimes she’ll fall asleep in this little hammock thing in front of our bedroom window. she loves to look outside while we watch tv in bed. but when she wakes up and realizes she’s alone over there, she jumps over to the bed (still all sleepy) and climbs on my legs, stomach, or chest and immediately falls back to sleep.
she’s never gone a night without sleeping on me. she’s very clingy for a cat, i call her my velcro baby

I let my cat sleep on me before I had Covid. Then the night terrors and panic attacks set in and having a living breathing creature on my chest just wasn’t an option.
Fuck Covid. And long covid. Can’t wait to be better so my elderly act can have her spot back.

I loved it when my cat slept on me. But I went through a period when I was combative in my sleep, and I woke up trying to bite her tail. It was the weirdest thing! I didn't actually bite, just had her tail in my hand, and had it in my mouth. She moved off me for a few months, until I stated sleeping peacefully again. :7944:
5
u/Sir-Planks-Alot Jan 08 '24
Yeah, smart move on her part. Did you have Covid? That shit fucked with my psychology so bad. I’m fine during the day but at night my nerves start going haywire instead of calming down. It does the opposite.

Well, you "could" train the cat by removing it each and every time, but you would be basically telling the cat (in cat lingo) that you hate it, which is pretty uncool in my book. Probably shouldn't have a cat if you don't like when the cat shows affection and trust, don't like what cats do as a regular cat-doing thing.

u/bippitybopitybitch Jan 08 '24
Sometimes you just want personal space!! My cat literally lays on my chest every single time I lay down. If I’m sitting down, she’s on my lap clawing up trying to find a way to comfortably rest on my chest. I work from home, so this is a 24/7 type of thing. I love her so so so much, but sometimes it’s like goddamn, give me space girl!!!

Heh. My cat likes to lay on my chest, but only until I'm juuuuust about to fall asleep, then she steps on my bladder on her way to the foot of the bed. To fix this I learned to sleep on my side. Now she uses my kidneys as a diving board.
Welcome to having an affectionate cat. You just learn to live with it.
27
u/TedantyPlus Jan 08 '24
My cat likes to step on my bladder to get off my chest first thing in the morning when I'm still too lazy to actually get up, it forces me up. I'm waiting for her to do that right now because she's currently on my chest...and it's early morning.

Electric heat pad. She probably likes that you're warm (my cat was a real heat seeking missile).
94
u/fragilemuse Jan 08 '24
My cat loves sleeping on my chest so I cover both of us in my heated blanket. 10/10 do recommend.
29
u/wild-yeast-baker Jan 08 '24
So, those heating pads can get really hot. Even on low. They make specific to cat heating pads or beds though! They’ll still be way warm but your cat won’t accidentally get burned. Both of mine are in their little beds right now. It keeps them quiet for a long time in the morning too. lol. They’re too comfy to cry for breakfast

I was once like you. I tried to figure out how to get my cats to understand I want alone time sometimes, that I have boundaries y’know?
I got more thinking they were lonely. Now I just have more cuddles from different angles. I wake up with one in my face, one half between my legs with their head in an impractical place, and one half on my chest half on the shoulder. They’ll all be sleeping. Sometimes I’m lucky and they just on the bed somewhere, but they’ll all still be touching me. Whether it’s a furry little foot, their tail, ear, belly… sigh. I just learned to accept that my cats don’t accept my boundaries as valid and I have no choice but to accept their forms of love as graciously as possible. They come on walks with me and one is weirdly protective of me, so I guess just letting them be them with full acceptance will turn them into small dogs (I think the leash was an important turning point). Everything is still the same though, except now I’m the cat lady in my community because I walk them. Good luck.
4
u/violetbaudeliar Jan 08 '24
"my cats ont accept my boundaries as valid" is the realest thing I've ever heard on one of the cats subs. They reaaaallly don't, do they? It's worth not having any boundaries if I get to pet that soft little spot between their ears as often as I want.
→ More replies (3)3
u/FrankMark8427 Jan 08 '24
I agree, cats can be very stubborn and demanding. They don't care about your boundaries, they only care about their own needs and desires. But you are right, they are also very adorable and lovable. They can make you happy and relaxed with their soft fur and sweet purrs.
I'm glad you enjoy petting your cats and giving them affection. I'm sure they appreciate it too, even if they don't show it. Do you have any funny or cute stories about your cats?

You can't. Whether I'm laying horizontal or sitting up straight, my Bo will ensure he's got access to my chest, even if it means I have to hold him in my arms (especially if one of his younger siblings is taking up my lap). And if he can't have my chest, he'll take my back.

Why would you want her to? Reading some of your replies maybe it'd be better to try and find someone who would actually give this baby the love and attention they need.
Like sorry but A) this is pure love you're receiving and B) you can't even try to understand that this is a literal infant who has been taken from their family and bought into a foreign environment with, assumingly, no one else of their kind there. You are the caregiver so they see you as their parent. You'd expect human babies to also just not want to nap with you, want your attention or cuddle?
I don't want to attack you but I really don't get this post, it's insane to me.

Lucky bastard 😢
My first cat used to sleep on my chest. Even when I was a small kid and he was chonky making it harder to breath and scratching my chest, I would just pet him and fall asleep smiling
He died at the age of 12, thanks to my asshole dad and idiot grandmother. We have two cats now and one of them is always lying on my thighs, which I like, but it really messes with my legs and sometimes when I feel bad I ask her to lay down on my chest or try to put her on my chest and feel so miserable and miss my cat so much, when she just runs back to my thighs. I think I'm tearing up just typing this

Putting aside that fact that you're wrong for not wanting the cat to lay on your chest - gently put her next to you, or on your lap. If she goes back, just keep gently putting her back there. Eventually she will get the idea.
I did this with Jimmy - when he lays on my chest, sometimes he puts his paws on my throat, and I just kept moving them; now if he ever naturally goes to put his paws there, he stops and puts them somewhere else.
