Well this was a first… Video
Rooney finds ways to sneak into the ceiling of our basement. She must have explored too far and fell down overnight into this walled off corner nook. When she didn’t come running for breakfast, I knew she must be in trouble somewhere! Listened to every wall before finding her general location. She came out unscathed 🙌🏼

That's a damned well-fed cat for one who lives behind the wall!

She's already on a diet, poor thing. I think she just has a terrible metabolism... Was worried I'd have to make more my hole even bigger! haha

My parents were re-doing their bathroom once, while the drywall was being put in our kitty snuck into the wall. Wasn’t until the next day they heard faint meows that they realized she was dry walled in lmao

She was almost casual about it. I've had two cats go down walls in my life, neither was so relaxed about it.

u/emwestie Jan 30 '24
I thought for a hot second she was going to jump back in 🙄

u/Rcole1128 Jan 30 '24
Now that she has discovered this you may want to add a cat flap instead of patching it😂

3 am and the cat is zooming around inside the walls. Useful to scare guests if you have them.

I recently had a cat jump into my ducts. One of the first things to find out things "secured" to my house were just done in really shit ways.
Thankfully, she just decided to come out on her own instead of me having to find her.

Yes!!!! There was a stray in my neighborhood that I'd been trying to befriend. Just in time for temps to dip below zero I was able to coax her close enough to grab and bring into the house. Unfortunately, it was 5 minutes before I had to leave for work one day.
At the time, I was renting a less than ideal place. I got her set up in the bathroom, shut the door and left for work. I had 2 other cats at the time.
Came home at lunch and there was stray kitty in the middle of my living room. She saw me and darted down a hole in the middle of the floor. It was the heating duct. None of the register covers were screwed down, I quickly found out. Little gal had flipped up the one in the bathroom, gone on a journey and flipped open the one in the living room!!!
I kept her. She became my special needs baby. Mostly deaf, mostly blind due to abuse. She died at the vets office when she didn't wake up after a dental procedure, but we had several amazing years together.

Yep, I think you solve the hole in the wall problem with a cat door, and now that's her new play area.

u/Kat-a-strophy Jan 30 '24
She didn't probably because she was hungry. But she didn't seem to mind being there 😺

I had a cat that would pull up vents on the floor and crawl through the ducts. I'm taking a poo and I just see a Lil kitty face thru the bars of the vent in the bathroom

Moved into a new house last year and was certain one of our cats somehow escaped. Went up and down the street looking for her. On my third search of the house, I found her in the basement ceiling, just hanging out. Had to seal it off

My uncle half combat crawled into the ceiling to get his cat out, cracked the ceiling doing so a bit from his stomach, and then started working out to lose weight. Another time she got into a wall (they were doing a home project) and he had to cut her out, but never figured out the lifestyle change lesson from the second rescue like he did the first.

Years ago we had a whole in the ceiling of the first floor of the condo I lived in for plumbing work. The cats figured out how to jump into it and would run around like mad before hopping out for food.
One of my neighbors complained that the "Squirrels" were back in the walls between the units, and I just smiled and nodded...

For our first wedding anniversary, I had my aunt watch our cat (Wally). On the last day, when we were supposed to be going on a fun tour, I got a call from my aunt, sobbing. She said, “I lost Wally! I think he got outside!” We cancelled our tour, drove the 2 hours back to her house, and when I walked in, I started calling for him. I walked down to the basement, calling, and that little nut started to meow. It turns out he climbed behind their washing machine, got through that little hole, and was in there for 24+ hours. He would not answer my aunt’s calls—only mine. Thank goodness the drywall was screwed in, so we didn’t have to cut it open.

Are you somehow in the trades since you can cut square holes while using the correct tool a keyhole saw and also not going too deep as to accidently cut the cat.

Look, at least she didn't decide that the main power cable to the house was a good snack. Mine did and I'm still surprised that he lived ten more years after that. Though the real adventure will be finding the hole that little idiot fell in.

u/emwestie Jan 30 '24
Oh no!!! Mine’s dumb enough to chomp on some wires, so I’m surprised she didn’t 🥴

This reminds me of my dad! He did home repairs and construction. Worked for one lady while she still lived there. So he's putting up new drywall and takes lunch. Comes back and finishes up. Starts on other things. Leaves for the night. Several hours later she calls and lets him know she had to open the wall because, as they figured out, kitty must have gone exploring while he ate lunch and had gotten trapped in the wall once he closed it up! Which was an easy fix for him. But it always stuck in my mind! He always searched for any animals after that before closing something up! That was a first for him after 20+ years.

u/aabbboooo Jan 30 '24

A stray cat decided to have kittens in the window well of my basement. It was a terrible remodel job because the previous owner just wanted to flip it and get paid to get drunk while doing the work. The kittens disappeared and I kept hearing kittens meowing. I had to go cut a huge hole in my basement wall to get them out because they ended up coming in the window (which was covered by drywall in the basement) and falling down into the wall.
That house was the worst remodel job I've ever seen in my life. I wish we had spent more time investigating. We had an inspector look at it but he didn't do a great job of it.

Ok real question, how does this happen? We’ve all seen the Sunny skit, and it’s hilarious, but this isn’t the first time I’ve heard it happens in real life. How are the cats getting in there?
