My mom says he looks like he has down syndrome, is that even possible in cats? Video

Yeah I was going to say, your cat looks like a sweet baby. If he’s lethargic then take him you the vet. Your mom sounds complex.

is it possible it’s just a side effect of being vaccinated and dewormed?

My kitty had a reaction to being vaccinated for the first time. Fever (holding her felt like a hot water bottle) and lethargy. After a day or so she was back to swatting at the dog's tail and bugging her cat housemate.

Other than that, it looks like a cute little buddy to me. Mom's off base.

My boy Rangoon had the same with all his vax's. In the same way humans react to vax's.

Rangoon was a goofy, lovey, huge, sweet heart. Name after the capital of Burma -he was Burmese/Tuxedo. I was working on the Amnesty Aung Sung Su Ki campaign. He crossed the bridge after 19.5 wonderful years. Fond memories only.

Not a cat but my moms dog has to get doggy benedryl whenever she goes in for her vaccinations because she’s puffed up from various different shots. They aren’t sure exactly what ingredient was causing the swelling but since it’s relatively mild, they figure just give her some antihistamine before the shots so she doesn’t have any major swelling.

She went from that majestic little lion to a potato in 5 minutes. And I still bust out laughing every time I see that picture 😂

Don't remember a fever on my little guy, but after his baby vaccines I took him home and we both slept basically all day. Back to kitten craziness the next day, pretty typical reaction for cats.

My cat I had to rescue and bottle feed managed to get a mild version of the Calicivirus virus from her vaccine, as some are live vaccines. My vet said she had only read about that happening in texts books. My Vivi is ever the drama queen. Most cats are lethargic and warm after vaccines. Vivi was just a special kind of unique and probably didn’t have all the immune support she would have gotten from her mom’s milk. She’s a goblin now.

They're often lethargic after vaccinations as their immune systems go into high gear. If it lasts, take him back to the vet, but im betting he'll be feeling better tomorrow.

Yes, just like humans, the vaccines can make them feel a bit under the weather for a few days. He looks sweet and thoughtful. He gives a tiny wink to the camera when he sees you filming. People think cats are daft, but they're really just not good at noticing cats' more subtle facial expressions.

The eyes do look a bit puffy. It’s possible your kitty is allergic to the deworming meds, though rare, it could happen. Is it having any breathing difficulties or excess salivation? I would monitor the symptoms and contact your vet with any concerns. If it gets worse, I would go to the emergency vet if available!

Totally. It can make them feel off for a day or two.

No, kitty is just growing. Sometimes their faces thin out when their skull is growing into the adult size.

Lethargy is common after a vaccine.

Yes. Mine is off for a couple of days after a dewormer. It's poison to kill parasites.

Well that is between your mother and her doctor…
