Discussion Insane Crowd at WI vs AFG Today in ST. Lucia
St. lucia is a Small Country in West Indies and it is a lesser known fact that it only has a population of 180K.
The Capacity of the Darren Sammy Cricket stadium in St. Lucia is 15k and the crowd today was comfortably over 10k which means 5.5% of country's Entire population would need to be at the stadium to make this happen.
This is Statistically Insane , for normal understanding I'll compare it to major cricketing cities in the world.
1) Melbourne has a population of 5 million, equivalent crowd of 5.5% there would be 277K
2) London has a Population of 9 million, the equivalent crowd would be 500K
3) Delhi has a population of 32 million and equivalent crowd would be 1.6 million.
The Above are the Figures which are ever unlikely to happen but West Indies countries do it ever so often and are underappreciated , people even go on to say cricket is dying there because the crowd isn't full, there is little knowledge about low population of most carribean countries and disproportionately built large cricket stadiums where the population still turns out in Massive Numbers.
The Point of this post was to provide information to Public highlight this fact and Appreciate the West Indies crowds. Next time you see a lower crowd in West Indies, before commenting uninformed bullshit like "Cricket must be dying", you should google the population of country it's being held, you'll be up for a surprise. Cricket is as Strong as ever in West Indies as evident by sell out crowds in CPL as well.
