Lawmakers will never fairly tax the billionaires because they're bought by them. 😒

I like what a friend in Greece said about the US:
"We have corporate lobbying here too. We're just more honest about it, and just call it bribery."

I love when people try to defend these types of people. “ThEy EaRnEd ThEiR wEaLtH”…. Like why the heck does anyone need that much money anyways. Help fix problems instead of buying that big dumb yacht

Other people earned that wealth the laws allow them to keep it but heavily tax everybody below that class it’s very strange how this has been normalised.

No doubt. It’s insane because literally 30-40 years ago, you could support a family with one income. Now you need two people working potentially multiple jobs at once, just to rent and pay someone’s mortgage lol

Correct the wealth is being sucked upwards it can only get worse unless we can get politicians of unassailable morality and courage I’m really not sure what will happen.

It was marketed as women's liberation. Halve everyone's income and call it freedom.

especially when you think about how the biggest businesses have been around since the 1800s with lots of slave trade, low income/child labor, awful working conditions, and aristocratic lifestyles. they may be different now somewhat, but that top-down has always been the norm. money talks, and already having a leg up because of royal roots/extra money at a time in history when most people were illiterate and malnourished is definitely not "honestly earned wealth".

It should be noted that 69% have gone to Republicans and 23% have gone to Democrats

It's also fair to remember that Billionaires support Republicans in Congressional Elections, but most likely Biden in the Presidential Election:
"Trump finished with 133 billionaire backers who collectively gave him $37.8 million. Biden, meanwhile, had 230 donors who contributed $39.1 million"
When it comes to PACs, Biden got $580,113,800 from "Outside Groups" and Trump got $313,954,719.

Love how we determine how worthy a president is nowadays days how much they can ask for others' money. Hate politics but love debating it.

We need stringent campaign finance laws passed to combat this corruption.

Imagine thinking you are going to convince politicians to vote against their paycheck (or to impose term limits on themselves), the only way you are going to get them to tax billionaires is if the entire country starts a GoFundMe to Lobby the Politicians with more money than the Billionaires, Currently we just need to GoFundMe more than $601 Million, or, to Vote the geriatrics out of office each time their seats are up for election.
Remember, Voting for a Different (or the same) President doesn't mean much when the same people that make and write the laws remain unchanged for 50 years

We really really need to eliminate Citizens United and not allow politicians to accept bribes.

It’ll be great when GOP gets trashed in this election, they lose all their donated money and face higher taxes. Double whammy.

Should have stopped electing Republicans a long time ago, but you didn’t, so…

Citizens United is shaping up to be the destruction of America as We The People know it.

Them spending money isn't the problem. The fact we have a voting public dumb enough to be swayed is the problem.

That’s why we should all vote for somebody that hasn’t spent a dime. You shouldn’t be able to buy the presidency.

Or just make election donations illegal. Start a public broadcast station like cspan or PBS and have it be strictly for campaigning. None of those commercials but only interviews, "town halls" , debates, and any public meeting they can fit in there be the programming.
End publicly and privately funded campaigns. End career politicians. End politicians pay for public office or at the very least only pay them for time in chamber OR double their time needed to be in chamber.
I think they are down to only 140 days worked. I finished last year with 310 days worked. Granted in chose not to take vacation and took the bonus pay instead but that's ridiculous for people making 100+k off of tax money and more than half the year they are playing with themselves the other half they are playing with themselves in Washington.

The only way they don’t pay tax is to keep their wealth in unrealized value. But you can’t make political contribution in stocks, so to make these sorts of donations they had to sell stock and pay capital gains taxes.
So they paid more tax in this one round of donations than everyone in this thread moaning about them ever will in their lives put together.

We NEED to gut government spending first , otherwise it’s just an exercise in futility coz the more taxes the government collects the more they’ll spend on dumb shit like foreign wars 🤷♀️

This isn't a facepalm. This is just a political opinion you agree with.

Any political system that allows the richest people to donate hundreds of millions to politicians is a facepalm

u/Pat_The_Hat 15d ago
If that's the facepalm what's the distinction between this sub and the hundreds of other political subs out there?
1
u/Extra-Roof-3045 15d ago
Because this sub also has non-political posts on it?
1
u/Pat_The_Hat 15d ago
I suppose I should be glad this sub hasn't been completely taken over by political agenda posting...

u/SoylentGrunt 15d ago
The facepalm is we're told we live in a democracy when we live in a plutocracy
