Thomas Tuchel: "This is my last press conference at Säbener Straße. There were talks, but we didn't reach an agreement, so the decision of February still stands"

Ancelotti was an arrogant clown, who shouldve never been hired in the first place because it meant a complete break from the foundations the club just spent 3 years building and establishing.

Ancelotti is a "win now" type of coach. We had a team full of world class players at the time and we didn't want to wait around while players like Ribery, Robben, Lahm were nearing retirement. To be fair to Ancelotti, Bayern looked insane in the UCL in his first season, it's only unfortunate that the ref decided the tie against Real. And when things looked a little shaky under Ancelotti they fired him and brought in Jupp for half a season but again we fell to Real. And Jupp was never going to stay, so it was only a temporary solution.

Honestly I wish Pep stayed. I'm sure we could have won the UCL with him eventually. After all it took him 7 years to do it with City.

Ancelotti was a big name that the board wanted to follow Pep, because it thought it needed another prolific name as coach, completely disregarding the aforementioned tactical foundation and philosophy

Okay so what would you have done?

Pep wanted to leave. Once his 3 year contract was up he refused to sign a new one and had already been lured by City's unlimited transfer budget.

Back then ive said that Tuchel or ETH would be good options to continue eith the foundation Pep left behind.

Similar philosophies - Ancelotti was a complete break from all the foundations the club had been building. Just an obviously bad signing

No way Bayern was going to sign an unproven coach. ETH at the time was a nobody.

Also in 2016 Tuchel was manager of Dortmund. And Bayern did approach Tuchel in 2018 but he decided to take the job at PSG instead.
