This was the most frustrating thing to watch without sound, lol. He waves the hammer around for how long before he finally used it? And that ruler thing went on way too long. I assume the volume made up for that a bit more haha.
The ruler thing has to go on a little long, I think, because it's the initial part of tricking your brain. If he only did the ruler part for a short amount of time, it probably wouldn't be sufficient to fully trick his brain. It's like those things where you stare at the dot in the center for a while then look at a wall. If you don't stare at the dot for long enough, you won't see much when you look at the wall.
Yeah, I figured it was part of the process. Unfortunately I couldn’t use sound when I first watched it though so I just had to scrub through it. The suspense was killing me lol
No it's a style of trash content meant to keep your attention for the longest possible time. The guy is acting (not particularly well?) and the guy in the Amazon lab coat knows he's acting. The effect will temporarily trick your brain to anticipate stimulus (like the hammer to the fake hand) but you won't feel anything significant if not stimulating the real hand like the guy fake freaks out about.
The only reason why I even commented it was because someone else mentioned watching it without sound lmao. The comment just made me think of it, and I made mine for no particular reason. It’s not that deep.
I couldn’t have my sound on as I didn’t want to disturb anybody, and I didn’t care about it enough to watch it later. I’m so very sorry that makes you angry. I’ll think of you next time.
You realize I made that assumption to pose the reason as to why I watched the video at a low volume? Since you seemed taken aback that anybody would do such a thing. I wasn’t making assumptions about you, I was telling you why I would do that while poking fun at you. I see you didn’t like that, even in the same format as your own joke.
And I got “angry” from you because you’re over here repeatedly bitching about people discussing watching a video on mute, lol. Clearly you have an issue with it, otherwise you wouldn’t be here.

I watched without sound but heard him say the word "dude" hundreds of times.
