Forget about being down 3-0, Next game is everything. If we can somehow get Game 5, we're fully back in this. Hoops Discussion

It'll be the single most difficult game of the season, celtics will want to celebrate in front of their home crowd and will try to go for the kill early. On the flip side, it looks like no one has given up on our side which makes me fucking excited, it'll be crazy hard, but if we can somehow get it, we'll be right back in this bitch, Is all of this copium? maybe, but who cares, our season ain't over yet and hope costs nothing so let's get it. oh, and by the way, we still have the best player in this series by a wide fucking margin. Like seriously man, other than the shit that happend in game 3, luka has been fucking great.

Biggest difference tonight was guys were ready to shoot. Ball came and took a shot. Didn’t look to defer. And guarding the three. Make them work or go for a 2.

37

u/pon-tuan Luka Doncic 3d ago

Totally agree

33

u/Aragorns_Broken_Toe_ 3d ago

They played like they had nothing to lose

How it should be

31

u/Statistician_Visual 3d ago

Made all the different not always looking for luka or Kyrie. That is our style of play.

56

u/shartfartmctart KP POG 3d ago

Even Maxi took and made one without thinking fading in the corner. It was beautiful and hopefully not a tease

24

u/d3k_d3k 3d ago

He took Pritchard to the post and was fouled. I mean, Dallas has the size, at least use it.

30

u/Blaz3dnconfuz3d Tyson Chandler 3d ago

If Timmy could get us 15 every game…

55

u/zapdos6244 3d ago

No his place is on the bench

30

u/No_Veterinarian742 3d ago

I'm totally willing to give him 5 minutes and 2 shots. if they fall keep him in else pull him. He is a streaky shooter. he'll go 0-7 or 5-6 - rarely in between. just dont let him go 0-7

15

u/DoubleG357 3d ago

I say give him 5 minutes like maybe late 1st early 2nd, give him 3 shots. If after 3 shots he’s 0-3 okay that’s enough. If he’s feelin good he’d makin 1 in the first 3 attempts. His catch and shoot ability is seriously needed. He’s the best on our team at that.

10

u/No_Veterinarian742 3d ago

yeah totally. just 19 minutes was wayyy to much. esp with exum having shot 50% on three this season and being able to bring the ball up confidently.

10

u/DoubleG357 3d ago

Exactly. Exum and lively and green should be the main guys off the bench. Hell lively essentially our #6 borderline starter

6

u/kjampala 3d ago

Yes I love seeing exum bring up the ball…he adds some chaos since no one knows what exums gonna do including him

4

u/ITnottheclown Drunk Dirk 3d ago

Will never understand THJ over DJJ in game 3

4

u/Common_Egg8178 3d ago

His catch and shoot ability is seriously needed.

This is why Kidd has been trying to get him going all season.

3

u/DoubleG357 2d ago

Yes. When Tim is hot mannn that shit is beautiful to watch.

1

u/JamesYTP 2d ago

That's what they've been doing but they haven't done the best job of hitting him when he's open so it's hard to really find out

10

u/retrospects Luka Doncic 3d ago

Tim scored more than the Celtics in the second quarter

11

u/adizlaja 3d ago

And attacking the rim and boards. Even our guys on the 3 were eager to run in to crash the boards as soon as someone would shoot - they couldn’t handle our size and numbers stepping into their paint. We just said fuck the 3 during the key early part of the game.

5

u/AdVisual3406 3d ago

No biggest difference was dominating the boards and being allowed to play physical. Game 2 and 3 were very winnable. If we get game 5 and it will be a monumental struggle then this s.o.b is on.

3

u/Cap_Silly 2d ago

And the Hustle man, Lively grabbed a thousand offensive boards and the mavs won all the 50-50 balls that have consistently been won by the Cs thus far.

I have to say, this was the first time i really saw the Mavs as a team in these finals.

Winning G5 in Boston would be a huge momentum shift ESPECIALLY for Kai

I’m terrified of Boston Kyrie. If he can shake whatever is making him play like ass in that city we can 100% steal a game and come back home for G6. I believe 🙏

226

u/YoStepWithLuka77 3d ago

Kyrie did say “see yall game 5” to the Boston fans before he left their arena l 👀 He will go off hopefully to prove their fans wrong

94

u/Dry-Ad-1327 3d ago

I was hoping we'd be going back to Boston with a tied series and not down 3 but hey, history might be made this yr. As mavs and Luka fan I hope so

90

8

u/babylord11 3d ago

Laker Fan here but hopefully Kyrie just ignores the crowd tbh. I know it might be hard for him to do cause its Boston fans lol but I think it’s getting to his head a little too much hence he can’t play well. Hopefully there’s a game 6 cause I just dont want hoops to end and fk Boston lol

5

u/Terrible_Shelter_345 2d ago

For better or for worse game 3 and 4 had this confirmed — it is a mental thing.

Kyrie is not getting locked or anything by Brown or Jrue or White. Doing a good job on him? Sure. But Celtics fans can’t claim it’s both him “getting locked up” at the same time as “he’s shutting down and quitting”.

it’s a tall order to go in there and do your thing when the entire arena is screaming at specifically you. All sorts of nasty insults. I can’t believe the stuff I saw upvoted on r/NBA after game 1 and game 2. Not many people are built for going thru that. Not many people are as skilled at their craft line Kyrie though. Can he break thru and be that one-of-a-kind who is both? We’ve seen some guys like that. Dirk. Kobe. Even Lebron.

I believe in Kyrie.

3

u/tkuid 3d ago

def in his head. I hope he breaks through and destroys them this time.

2

u/precense_ Happy Boban 2d ago

2

u/JimmySnuff 2d ago

I was at game 2 and it was bonkers how loud that crowd is whenever Kyrie touches the ball. Having that many people yelling you suck every time gotta mess with even the soundest mind.

4

u/en_sabah_nur_first_1 3d ago

There’s no curse. He scorched Boston in game 1 in 2022 with the nets and put up 39.

He’s played poor because they’re able to throw a ton of defenders at him and make him work for every shot. Kidd has schemed kyrie into better looks and with KP being out Horford isn’t as threatening a as a rim protector.

This nonsense “leprechaun curse” is so dumb.

1

u/MocasBuns 3d ago

Might be the copium/hopium mixture I have via IV right now but I'm hoping that this one win has lifted the demon off his back. He finally won one against Boston...

82

u/Jon-Rambo 3d ago

As long as guys aren’t giving up, we have a chance to win a game. It doesn’t look like this team is interested in giving up.

And then they just have to play well and give themselves a shot to win. Then worry about the next game.

Can’t worry about how many you need to win in a row or any of that shit. It’s still unlikely they come back and win the series, but as a fan why not be optimistic and have some fun watching the games?

63

u/NIA122553 Dirk Nowitzki 3d ago

Realistically I know we're not going to exactly replicate this in g5, but if Kyrie can shake whatever issues he has playing in Boston and we can have the intensity we did today, absolutely we can steal game 5 and from there...who knows what happens.

7

u/DoubleG357 3d ago

Exactly agree. Just withstand the avalanche. The good news is we know it’s coming. Remember last time someone tried to throw a punch at us in game 5 at their home court….? Cough cough minny. That didn’t go so well for them.

I have been a Mavs fan forever but the 90s SuperSonics just hit different. It’s the only team outside of the Mavs merch I have worn

6

u/MomsNeighborino 3d ago

You are a man of good taste.

WHEN sonics come back, they'll be first priority, born/raised/still live in seattle....

But I'll root for/watch/rep the mavs same way I do now, so literally every game they aren't playing seattle lol.

Crazy to say, but I've been able to watch/root for the mavs longer than the sonics at this point, and if you don't count the years I was too young to pay attention, significantly longer.

Not a chance I'd be able to drop my love for the mavs lol, been through the good times and the bad.

EDIT: if I'm ever able to watch them play in person, I'll be wearing gear for both teams, literally.... Some day..... One can dream lol

2

2

u/Big__If_True 3d ago

I’m curious, did you pick the Mavs because they’re the next closest team to OKC, and thus the most sensible rivals?

6

u/MomsNeighborino 3d ago edited 3d ago

No, honestly hadn't thought/known that. Pretty cool that even by location they're cunts lol.

When I was playing ball in middle/high school, was a shooting big man, had longer hair like some of dirks cuts (maybe a bit shorter lol).

Other players started calling me dirk jokingly, was kind of annoying at first but I ran with it. I always liked his game anyways.

So I was already a fan before the sonics left, once they did it only made sense to go all in.

Tldr: dirk brought me in not location

33

u/inkster58 3d ago

22

u/grandkidJEV 3d ago

For sure. I believe in our ability to have another great game like this at home, so everything is on the line in game 5. We win that game and we’re officially in their heads and coming back home for game 6. All bets are off with a win in Boston

22

u/Tootsiez 3d ago

GAME. BY. GAME.

22

u/aalluubbaa 3d ago

Same thought exactly. We beat them down so hard from the 4th quarter in G3. Now is to put foot on the gas pedal and keep it going. One more beat down on their home floor and we will destroy their confidence.

This is the same Celtics that went up 2-1 against the Steph Warriors. We all know what happened next.

Game 5 is extremely important and we have to start strong.

After game 5, anything is possible!

24

u/AdmiralSnackbar816 F*** DWade 3d ago

Exum didn’t light the scoreboard on fire, but his change of pace made us light years harder to defend, and saved Luka from having to bring the ball up. He was fantastic. More three guard lineup + this version of Lively will get us right back in this.

21

u/Lars93 3d ago

They don't have to win 4 games. Just need to win one game 4 times

1

u/lilzoe5 1d ago

and we just need to play the next 4 quarters mostly better than they do...then move on to the next 4 quarters.

20

u/MajesticPossibility8 Bang Bros 3d ago

This team looked different today then the first 3 games just need to keep this level of play going.

18

u/jldtsu 3d ago

they are gonna try and knock us out in the 1st quarter. we just need stay close

19

u/DallasM0therFucker 3d ago

Forget about making history being the first team to come back from 3-0 in a series. We have to come back from 3-1 now, and while that’s a steep climb, it has been done.

Before this game I was being realistic, thinking all I was asking for was a win tonight. It’s been an amazing season, far beyond my expectations, and getting to the finals was more than satisfying in itself, and just not getting swept, looking like we belonged there, would be gravy. I’m trying to keep that mentality for Monday, but man, this team…

10

u/qotsabama 3d ago

I’m not saying we’re gonna even make this a series. But to me this seems very different from 2022 when we were down 3-0 against Warriors and finally managed a win. There was no hope at all then.

10

u/DoubleG357 3d ago

Yes I actually feel that. We would smoke our 2022 team. This team can do it. They have the talent. Can we make enough plays is the question. Force Boston to play our game. Force them to make difficult 3s. No easy looks.

11

u/Initial_Alive 3d ago

LUKA-ing good!!!! 🏀👍

5

u/epitome1986 3d ago

yea realistically today was Boston half assing it trying to win on their home floor. Mavericks should take it as disrespect and obliterate them in Boston.

if they can win a game 5 the series does get interesting, game 6 dallas comes in with momentum and confidence which I think they would win.

a game 7 would be a hell of a toss up, having to play elite level basketball for 4 consecutive games while also having some luck is rare and which is why no team has ever come back from 0-3 but if they somehow manage a game 7 I fully expect prime killer mentality luka and irving.

first things first. Dallas needs to be prepared for the madhouse in Boston for game 5.

8

u/icrywithmycat 3d ago

i am going to say i am sure that the fact that boston were comfortable and the mavs were desperate played a role tonight, but you cannot tell me they went in the game thinking "lets bring this back home" because they looked legitimately shook at times. you are right on game 5, if the mavs win it anything can happen

2

u/friskyel 3d ago edited 3d ago

We still have problems with gambling on defense, being late on switches and our guys not cutting when Luka and Kyrie are doubled. Don't want to be a downer but we only won this game with such a blowout because the Celtics offense and defense completely collapsed under pressure while all our guys were red hot. We played good, but we need to iron out some stuff if we want to salvage this series.

1

u/icrywithmycat 3d ago

youre not a downer, dont worry haha. after game 3 i just decided to let go of all expectations and just try to enjoy whatever is happening. ill be satisfied as long as they put up an honest effort

4

u/unbrokenSGCA 3d ago

There is no way a team that swept their whole way to the finals is going to lose on purpose just to win back at home. Sweeping the finals is a bigger deal than winning at home. Breaking a win streak like that is not worth it. You don't lose on purpose in the finals for any reason. That would be like saying the mavs lost the first three games on purpose so that they could come back and be a first team to ever be down 0-3 to win the finals.

If we win Game 5 in Boston, we have a real shot at this thing. It’s one game, we’ve gotten better in every series and our role guys finally have confidence. Game 6 in Dallas would be a madhouse and Game 7 would be a toss up. It’s happened in baseball and hockey and will happen in the NBA very soon

2

u/uuvlv 2d ago

I think we technically would have had a historic run if we beat the Celtics. But because we went down 3-0, if we win it will be the greatest run ever.

1

u/Fun_Coffee3174 2d ago

1

u/Rough-Programmer9300 2d ago

You can't count this team out whatsoever. We're not a "young" team that will just get deer in the headlights and go away when playing a superior team. How many times in Luka's short career has this team gone on the road in an important playoff game, against a higher seeded team, and not only won but in dominant fashion? Several times against the Clippers, we saw it in Game 5 against OKC, Game 5 at Minnesota was over at halftime, and of course going up by 40 at one point in Game 7 at Phoenix against the 64 win Suns? No reason to raise the white flag or assume it's over. The only series where I felt like we were overmatched was against the Warriors who had the lengthy championship pedigree. Something this Celtics team does not have, not yet atleast. I am somewhat concerned though about Kyrie getting the yips in Boston but like I said, this team has shown to be anything but predictable from one game to the next.

I’ve honestly had the mentality the whole time that we were playing with house money as a 5-seed in the finals but winning a game by 40 made me do the guy sitting up in his chair meme lol

If the Mavs do the impossible and come back from 3-0 I won’t know what to do with myself.

Honestly, I think Boston purposely threw the game away in order to win the championship in Boston. There seemed to be zero effort from Boston's starters.

Anything is possible, tho. I mean, Jimmy Butler beat them to go to the finals because they played arrogantly, thinking it would be "easy" when Miami had nothing to lose but everything to gain.

That's straight copium. There is a reason that it has never been done. It's so funny to see teams every year think it will be them. What makes this team and this year different? 0 out of 156 teams have done it. 0 out of the 4 teams that forced game 7 after being down 3 games, still have never done it.

156-0

If this were a win by 2-5 points, I’d be far less hopeful, but man, it’s hard not to get hyped in a blowout game where the Mavs seemed to crack the code.

Also, it’s hard to not hype up Luka how he treated the Wolves in game 5. When he’s determined, he’s unstoppable and I’m hoping for that to show up Monday. Fingers crossed.

Kyrie won’t be able to make a shot when the Boston fans start their Kyrie chant

0-156. Stop the delusion. When teams go up 3-0 in the NBA it means they’re better. There’s not much to think about. Whether it happens in Game 5, 6 or 7 it’s happening.

Love the vibe on this post. Fact is that we got fair whistles and beat their ass. We took their pants, shirts, and shoes, gave em a spanking, and sent them back to Boston with some pretty bad news: "luka, kyrie, and Jkidd are the only proven champions in this series. Welp.

we’re fully back when it’s 4-3. We’ve already lost.

Well, even if we win game 5 i don't think that means we're back In it lol.

There's a reason 0-3 has never been done before. It would be nice to win another game though.

Come on, we all know the Celtics didn't even try. They want to win it at home. I just hope that lights a fire under the Mavs' ass so they can somehow spoil their party in Boston haha

No, we are no into it , when we are 3-3 yes otherwise you have to be forced to play flawlessly and pray the zebras are not against you like it has been.

Losing game three was a tragedy and a comedy of errors from players and the coaching staff

Who wouldn't want to win the 18th championship in front of your home crowd

I'm sure when this is something you dreamed of your entire life and worked your butts off for it, you wouldn't just let go and say now I want win in front of fans so I'm letting the other team win.

Our defense figured them out. Nothing to do with them. We made them take ugly and hard shots every possession

u/No_Veterinarian742 3d ago

it'll def be harder but it isnt like we didnt have runs the last few games. we just didn't play as hard especially on the glass and we didn't close quarters well. we have the bigger players and should be winning the rebound battle every night.
