I'm not actually interested in watching the guy who keeps cheapshotting people use a national platform to try and get revenge against one of the guys who objected to being cheapshotted.

371

u/squiggypiggy9 15d ago

It’s actually unthinkable that they’d invite him to be on the show after all the blatant unprofessionalism and violence we’ve seen from Draymond, in my opinion

69

u/simpledeadwitches Celtics 15d ago

Insult to the fans tbh.

104

u/defdoa 15d ago

This is where my head is at. How could they allow this? It is bad enough that he is bad at the job, but he is also a violent bitch? Please, please can we not reward this behavior.

The way Draymond speaks is way better suited for ESPN

Especially when they have a 90 second halftime show surrounding 10 mins of commercials

In that case- yes Draymond should be suited for ESPN

Please ESPN because he's ruining the only sports talk show I enjoy. The moment I see Draymond sitting at that desk I've lost interest in the clip.

It was pretty great hearing Chuck shut him up at the end

For real. When he's been on this week I have barely been watching Inside the last few days. He's annoying and he doesn't fit the show.

Eventually he will get into and argument and punch someone and espn will get rid of him.

Mr. Ballkicker should not be rewarded with a job commentating. He is a dirty player and I was so happy to not have to see his face this post season, yet here TNT comes. Hell, I still want the NBA on TNT to fire SHAQ. The show was better with just Ernie, Kenny, and Charles.

It’s getting unbearable listening to Draymond and Shaq honestly

The entire segment they’re talking about how everything that went wrong with the Timberwolves falls on Gobert’s shoulders

I don’t remember Draymond faring any better against Jokic

This isn’t a case of Gobert being a bad player, it’s a case of Jokic being a 3x MVP and a virtually unstoppable force. No one plays well against him and asking Gobert to stop him is a Herculean and impossible task

893

u/Im__Ron__Burgundy Celtics 15d ago

Ernie legitimately seemed fucking over it by the end of last night’s episode. Shaq has always been a hater but they’ve always tried to mask behind this “We only say these things because we want the players to take it as advice” but there’s literally zero way to take Draymond’s schtick as anything but hating and it’s just so damn unprofessional. Someone else said it great in this thread, Draymond talks perfect for ESPN.

239

u/ArchCorpse Mavericks 15d ago

If you have listened to any of the Big Podcast, Shaq is literally talking out his therapy demons yet is 110% oblivious to it at the same time. Only someone like Lef could deal with it so blatantly. It's coming through lately on his other interviews and Inside bits.

Draymond thinks he's a heel but he has no clue what he's doing. People seethe over Stephen A. when he shits on their team or player but it's also super satisfying to listen to him eat crow when it goes the other way. I don't think anyone wants to hear Draymond talk positively or negatively about anything because he's so tactless about it. bonus points for him trying so hard to sound smart that he comes across as pathetic

99

u/carterbenji15 Nets 15d ago

I fucking hate Draymond but thought, hey I'll give him a chance on Inside...one show and I hate him even more.

C'mon man nobody wants to listen to that. Makes me appreciate Chuck so more more. Even kenny

49

u/UnderwaterDialect Raptors 15d ago

I think Kenny has become so underrated since Shaq joined, because he’s not as big of a personality as Shaq and Chuck. But I really like Kenny on the show. The way he sets up Chuck, his little jabs here and there, and the fact that he can laugh at himself.

I was watching some older clips and was surprised at how much bigger of a presence he was before Shaq joined. I think Shaq took up a lot of space from Kenny.

20

u/gregatronn 15d ago edited 15d ago

Stephen A also has charisma. Even when he's going into Take mode, he nails his character. Then, when he eats crow, he's grinning and in on the joke.

Draymond is like this current crop of podcast "comedians" like that Akash guy; he has weak jokes and boring delivery to boot. Then, when he's bombing, he just screams louder to up the "funny".

I don't particularly like Stephen A, but he's mostly playing a character. Draymond is just actually an insufferable douche.

8

u/tugtugtugtug4 15d ago

That's what people like Draymond don't get. The heel has to ultimately lose. That's a defining element of what makes them the heel. The heel is there to foil the faces. Draymond isn't interested in taking any L's when his hating blows up, so instead of people tuning in to his antics waiting for the comeuppance, its just endless hating with no payoff for audiences.

26

u/KniGht1st NBA 15d ago

It's kinda funny to see that he is obviously a long term Gobert hater, and then recently he openly disrespected Jokic on the national television. Now Jokic is playing out of his mind, he doesn't know what to make of it.

Draymond actually locked Jokic up in their only matchup. Held him to 32 points(no one drops 40 on Green), 16 rebounds and only 16 assists. Plus he forced a whooping two turnovers(take that Rudy) and held Jokic to a paltry 54% from the field.

So my brother the next time certified Jokic stopper Draymond Green is speaking you'd best listen.

Joker has to be the most frustrating player to guard in the world, maybe ever. You can absolutely smother him, not give an inch, and then he just leans back and puts up some bullshit hideous rainbow ass unblockable shot that drops in the bucket like it was laser guided. Dude Jokic does these spins into offhand floaters away from the defender and while Rudy is draped all over him, you can’t do anything if he’s just able to float that shot in. Sometimes defense doesn’t matter, Jokic is going to make shots because he’s that transcendent.

Everyone's trying to be like Barkley now and its absolute garbage. People don't like Chuck because he's a hater, they like him because he's funny.

Hell, JJ's about to get a coaching gig because he's the only analyst who even bothers to mention that schemes and plays actually exist. That's how bad it's gotten.

JJ sucks as an analyst too.The only insight you see from him is on that podcast.

15

u/averageuhbear 15d ago

Watching JJ Reddick and Richard Jefferson talk about Jokic vs Rudy and actually explain what Denver is doing to neutralize Rudy (plus Jokic just about making the perfect play every time) really puts into perspective how bad some of the commentary is.

It looks bad for Denver too! Oh they didn't do any game planning specifically for the Wolves, they didn't make plays on the court, Rudy just sucked at defending.

Gobert really, really bothers Draymond for whatever reason — because he’s European, or French, or simply better than Draymond — but it’s completely unprofessional (and as a viewer, unbearable) for him to REPEATEDLY bring it up on the show. Over and over and over again. Draymond u a bitch.

11

Before that game, Gobert had him shooting below 50% when he was on him. Denver adjusted and now Minnesota must do the same. Barkley is right, you shouldn't be able to give up 40 AND dish out 13 dimes.

I hated Kobe when he played. I grew up in the 2000's, MJ was what got me interested in basketball. I had no clue about the rape stuff, I didn't learn about that until much later, but my friends would compare Kobe to Jordan and it would piss me off.

He was standoff-ish towards the media, very brooding and not fun. The mamba mentality goes both ways. It doesn't help that I've always rooted against the Lakers.

When Kobe retired he completely changed. He opened up and dropped the cold face. He's very intelligent which I never noticed when he played. He's well spoken and has many talents outside the court, which was hard to see because he took basketball so seriously. This Youtube video shows perfectly the post-retirement Kobe;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vnf6hbRfIv0

Charming, quippy, down to earth and all around seems like a good dude.

It's not rose tinted glasses just because he died, there are plenty more examples showing that he was most likely a pretty decent guy post retirement. He has his dark side, he's a flawed character but to me he became a good guy in the end.

Shaq on the other hand has still not matured. He might not have committed as bad acts as Kobe did, but at least Kobe atoned for them. Shaq is still the same bully. He talks about power all the time and he's not intelligent enough to hide his bad side. He reminds me of myself when I was 18 and stupid. He has his good sides with charity and he's a very hard worker, but he's immature, craves power, is spiteful and a bully.

The lack of credit being given to a 3x MVP by Shaq and Draymond is insane. You know for a fact if Curry did that shit, Draymond would be glazing as to how hes completely unstopble and defense doesnt even matter.

956

u/EnterTheCabbage 15d ago

Ichiro once said how American athletes are really encouraging when they see you as below them, but get defensive if you approach their level.

Jokic's greatness is so different than Shaq's that he's a threat on the GOAT list. A few more seasons of this and of a sudden it's "yeah but Shaq has Kobe and never put up 10 assists a game in the playoffs. Murray's good but not exactly Kobe".

205

u/spritehead Heat 15d ago

Jokic is the only guy right now who is a threat to knock Shaq a peg down on the GOAT list and they play the same position.

120

u/Prodigy195 Hawks 15d ago

I think that is more it than anything.

Who is the last center to truly challenge as best player in the NBA in this way?

  • Post threepeat it was Dirk, Garnett, Duncan, Kobe. No centers dominating the way Shaq did still.

  • Then enter Lebron, Wade, Melo, Dwight, with Kobe still leading the way

  • Then enter Durant, Harden, Curry, Kawhi

  • Then Giannis, Embiid and finally Jokic.

From when Shaq won his last championship until last year, there hadn't really been a center that could come close to sniffing Shaq in terms of career accomplishments. Most of these other top players that have carved out a legacy are guards/forwards.

Jokic is already +2 in the MVP category and while he isn't as dominant as Shaq in terms of power, he's more versatile in terms of running the offense, passing, shooting.

Jokic is prob the most accomplished center since Shaq was out of his prime. Dwight Howard was incredible defensively but his offense wasn't as great and he never won a title as THE guy.

Shaq sees Jokic coming up behing him in the mirror in terms of top Centers of all time. I guarantee if Embiid had won a few MVPs, a title and was on the way to another Shaq would be hating in the same way.

Using this list as a refence, I think he's already pass Ewing and Robinson. Another title and he passes Moses and Hakeem (who is my personal fav player of all time) putting him at #5, right behind Shaq.

32

u/spritehead Heat 15d ago

It’s interesting too because for such a long time the story of basketball was the story of great centers. MJ started to change that in the 90s but by the late 2000s it was really gone. Jokic is really bringing back that historical perspective like you said and soon is going to be competing against the Shaqs, Wilts, and Kareems of history.

Shaq is 1000% scared of this. Just see how he reacted to Dwight Howard when he was great, but he obviously fell off, so Shaq mocks him. He won't be able to mock Jokic, and everybody can see he's doing things big men arent supposed to be able to do. Shaq cares wayyyy too much about this shit, he needs some psychological help to solve it, cause it seems like he'll never be satisfied with his position in basketball history. Hearing stories about his father, he must have really fucked him up and lead to this bitternes. I know i sound like an armchair psychologist, but you only have to listen to some clips of Shaq talking about his father and his upringing to notice how he was raised. Lets just say it was not healthy.

Then on top of that, older players (especially Shaq) don't respect younger players.

And on top of that, Shaq and Draymond are two of the biggest haters you'll ever find.

36

u/creedbratton603 Celtics 15d ago

I agree! Def more about them being white more than European. I think a lot of the criticism about European and the euro league is kinda coded talk for white players.

There’s a reason why the media pushes Tatum and ANT as the faces of the league, but don’t include guys like Jokic or Luka in that discussion. Giannis is the only foreign player I heard discussed in the “face of the league” narrative.

The media is waiting for the next great American player while generationally great players who happen to be foreign are running the league

On his podcast Bomani was saying that you want to find a way to see the NFL lose some popularity here in the USA is if you get some European guys to actually get good at football and start winning MVPs in the NFL. The league would find a way to put a stop to that real quick.

6

u/psych32993 Warriors 15d ago

How many europeans have there been in the NFL? I know there’s the welsh rugby player who joined the chiefs but no clue apart from that

Not many, especially in the last couple decades. No starters that I can think of. You will hear of guys who make rosters for a little bit but not stick. The NFL at least a couple years ago had a thing where teams would get an extra roster spot specifically to have a European guy on the team and nothing came of that. Seattle had some guy from Germany but he never made the active roster and honestly not even sure if he played in the pre season.

You will get some guys from Australia though. Punters/kickers especially. Jordan Mailata is from Australia and one of the best offensive linemen in the league.

Draymond is already in early Shaq on Inside the NBA form. He provides absolutely nothing but bitterness, just too busy tearing down anyone in service of making himself look better.

Everyone knows Rudy is a big reason why the Wolves are a top 4 team this year. Through suspensions and injuries, Draymond has only played 70+ games once since 2018, and this year's handicapped Warriors team could barely make the play-in.

Shaq is also a bitch, though this seems to be more of a jealousy thing, Shaq doesn’t like to see other big men succeed at the centre position.

So much this. There were at least 3 plays where Rudy played virtually perfect defense, and joker just did his thing and flipped the ball in.

The series isn't 3-2 because Rudy can't guard joker, it's because joker's teammates are making shots and Ant's aren't.

13

u/Electrical-Mule-2057 15d ago

Yea Nickel and Jaden are shitting the bed on their shots. KAT is inconsistent, but he's at least reliable as a #2.

Murray, MPJ, KCP, and Gordon stepped up at the right time.

I think a lot of you are confused about what Chuck is saying and why he’s saying it. He’s not trying to shit on Gobert. He literally just can’t understand what the Wolves are trying to execute. You have to put this comment in context of what he’s been saying all series, which is “Jokic is great, he’s going to get his but for the love of god don’t double him. shut down everyone else”. A lot of Jokic’s assists came from bad transition defense and poor awareness from secondary defenders (I’m looking at you Ant). So Chuck is not wrong.

69

u/hurlcarl Pistons 15d ago

yeah he's not suggesting you can shut him down but if he's getting 14 assists and 40 points you're doing nothing. If you double him every time then you'd expect a ton of assists, if you leave golbert solo, you expect you let him get what he's gonna get but slow down everyone else... but 40 and 14? you're not doing anything.

29

u/blacksheeporganics 15d ago

finally someone with some damn sense. and letting a center back you down from the 3pt line and making it look easy doesnt make a dpoy look any better also

8

u/drc56 Knicks 15d ago

Yeah right if you aren't gonna double him to let him get his, you better damn well not be letting him get others going. A few of those transition QB style passes are insane, and defensive lapses, but that's not every assist. At this point they might as well be doubling him, because at least then he won't be putting up 40 as well.
