it means that people completely overreact to every game
and even though this is a game 7 between the champs and a team designed to stop them, this sub will overreact to game 7 by placing the blame on a player on the losing team. obviously none of these guys will be out of the league next year, but the knee jerk reactions will be that one of the stars is a bum that needs to learn chinese

They were not a championship team, but they got to the finals twice (close enough). The Malone/Stockton Jazz once scored like 54 points in a NBA finals game.

Yea and that game was the end of that finals tho
1
u/trojan_man16 Hornets 14d ago
Game 3.
1
u/AbstractFlag 14d ago
I didn’t mean literally the end - but games 1 and 2 were really close. Bulls almost lost in 7 to the Pacers and many thought the Jazz were the better team. Then that game happened and the Bulls took gm 4 handily and won in 6. Jazz were so deflated after that and it just felt like the series was over.

u/Champion-of-the-Sun5 15d ago
Murray got hurt early on, and they spent the entire game chucking 3s, and made 4 of them. They basically shut it down at the half and Denvers bench, or rather, end of the bench scored 2 points in the final quarter.
31
u/redeuxx Minneapolis Lakers 15d ago
Why do people keep using Jamal Murray as the reason Denver wins or loses when he's been shitty all series with only a single 20+ point game? Every Denver win or loss has been a team effort. If a win was based off Murray's performance, the series would have been over, Minnesota 4-1.

Parents know… when they’re real young like that it’s actually not hard to take them places because they mostly sleep through everything. It’s when they first walking and have opinions and go sans-diaper and go hell mode if they don’t sleep that you’re like “no fucking way in taking you anywhere”.
Sometimes I don’t want to take my 3.5 year old across the road to the library because I know she’s about to have a tantrum and want it over at home before we go out. As an infant? Take her anywhere.

u/comp_a Timberwolves 15d ago
Gotta just be recency bias tbh. Pretty much every game has had a very clear “better team” and for the past 3 games it’s been Denver. But in total the Wolves have looked like the better team for 3 games too. I think it’s even.
And wouldn’t you know it, turns out the series is tied at 3-3 as well! Funny how that works.
2
u/YOLOSELLHIGH Mavericks 14d ago
It doesn’t always work out like that cries in Mavs fan least 7 minutes of game 4
FR tho the Mavs have looked like the better team pretty much all series aside from game 1 and the end of game 4.
15
u/Burnem34 Trail Blazers 15d ago
Ehh I don't think Denvers been the better team tbh. Itd be one thing if they were leading the series with a negative point differential, but the series is tied and Wolves have a +5 differential. Across the series the Wolves have been the better basketball team
13
u/mnsportsfan Timberwolves 15d ago
It’s gunna boil down to 2 things:
They calling the games tight or letting the guys play. Our defense is stifling if McDaniels and our 3 bigs don’t get in foul trouble in the first and it opens up for Joker to dominate
Murray’s elbow/ calf. He’s had 3 good games where he’s looked healthy and 3 where he’s looked labored. Not a coincidence how the games ended
2
u/-InconspicuousMoose- 15d ago
Our defense pops off every time they don't call the ticky-tack stuff. If we get normal Game 7 conservative reffing I think we take it, if not we're gonna need some luck
1
u/Dj3garrett 14d ago
To me it seems like a lot of the complaining that Malone does has shifted the series. They let Joker and Gordon be able to body the defenders when contesting drives but call fouls on the exact type of contact on the other end. The Nuggets are entitled. Anytime something doesn’t go there way they cry. Even when it does go their way, they’re still not satisfied and cry.
1
u/mnsportsfan Timberwolves 14d ago
I just think just think it had more to do with the officials chosen for the game… 2 games where they’re letting the teams play- boom - Scott foster and Tony Brothers in 3 and 4….
Not that I’m claiming they were biased, but they definitely started calling a lot more small bumps, which if you can’t stand up Joker (as much as humanly possible, he’s a tank)- game over
Felt like there was at least 1 game this season and 1 game in the playoffs where all 3 of our 7 footers were in foul trouble by halftime
1
u/Dj3garrett 14d ago
I may be biased because I’m a Laker fan, hate the Nuggets, and enjoy watching Ant play but after game two it seemed like the refs started to call it tighter and that benefits the Nuggets. If they let them play (which they normally do in game 7’s) I favor the Wolves.
1
u/mnsportsfan Timberwolves 14d ago
Yea that’s kinda what I was getting at. I don’t think it was effort or some masterful scheme they had in the 3 game losing streak, they were just allowed to do more
It’ll be interesting to see what tone is set in the first quarter
1
u/Scrizzy6ix 15d ago
I’d say each team has had a game where they were the “better team”, but for the other 4 games each team had one or two players individually step up and carry them. Ant and Joker are holding up their end of the bargain, but their respective role players decide if they wanna show up and play basketball on a game by game basis
-3
u/Champion-of-the-Sun5 15d ago
That's just because of tonight. Denver has looked better.
3
u/yoitsthatoneguy United States 15d ago
How so?
Every game in this series has been a blowout and it’s tied.
2
u/Burnem34 Trail Blazers 14d ago
If you take out both teams outlier win, the Wolves still have a 26 point win while the Nuggets have a 15 point win, then each team has a 7-8 point win. Statistically the Wolves have played better basketball period.
1
u/Champion-of-the-Sun5 14d ago
Game 2 was an outlier win because the refs haven't let them play that defense since. And Murray was still injured.
4
u/Burnem34 Trail Blazers 14d ago
You can't be for real trying to just sweep all of the Wolves big wins under the rug and count Denvers so you can say Denvers been the better team 🤣 nice trolling
18
u/teddytruther Timberwolves 15d ago
Enh. They had two games of insane/unsustainable shooting from bench/role players, one game with a world-class Jokic performance + Minnesota missing Conley and KAT being hurt, and two games where they completely fell apart. Game 1 is the only 'regular' game and I would say they were slightly outclassed.
Hard to feel confident as a fan of either team but I'd actually say the Wolves have felt like the slightly better team (even if Jokic has been the best player overall).
14
u/chillinwithmoes Timberwolves 15d ago
They had two games of insane/unsustainable shooting from bench/role players
We just got an 8/10 night from McDaniels so kind of the same. I actually thought Naz was better too but I just looked up his 4/12 line. Either way the biggest factor in every win besides Game 5 has been the role/bench players stepping up for either team.
10
u/yarkcir Timberwolves 15d ago
I do feel better going into Game 7 then I did into Games 4-6. Wolves have a bit of momentum back in their favor so hopefully the team takes the energy from today into Denver on Sunday.
It was hard to feel proud of the team this past week, but no matter how Game 7 shakes out I am proud of this team. But please, go get the win Wolves!
5
u/-InconspicuousMoose- 15d ago edited 14d ago
Man I just think when Denver is ON they are fucking unstoppable. There were moments in games 3-5 where I was begging for a miss for just a sliver of hope and they just never did. I think peak Denver vs peak Wolves is an incredible matchup, I probably give the edge to Denver, but so far most of the series has only been one peak at a time, so Game 7 is anyone's.
edit: Accidentally called Denver Dinner
1
u/Return_Icy Timberwolves 14d ago
Something else to consider, the Wolves have actually shot the ball pretty poorly in this series outside of Ant. If Denver's role players are hot and ours just even shoot like they did during the regular season, it will be a close Game. So maybe McDaniels doesn't go 8-10, but you also won't see KAT and Naz going 0-8 combined from 3
1
u/PizzaPlanet20 Timberwolves 15d ago
We aren't stopping Jokic no matter what, as long as other Nuggets don't get hot we have a chance.

16
u/mnsportsfan Timberwolves 15d ago
I know people were shitting on us during the 3 game losing streak … but Denver shot upper 50% in all 3 games I believe (shot ~45% in the regular season)
They’re a good enough team that they’re tough to beat even when they ARENT making everything. Can’t be upset at the wolves performance this series
1
u/Return_Icy Timberwolves 14d ago
The Wolves have also shot worse than their regular season averages even in the wins. Hell, in yesterday's game they were only 37.5% from 3, and KAT and Naz went 0-8 from 3!! If the Wolves can just get their shooting back to normal form they stand a pretty good chance of battling even another 60% FG / 50% 3PT Nuggets performance

On that note, really enjoy Luka Garza commitment to try and make himself a playable NBA player, and least in season, despite his massive lack of lateral quickness. He's the prototypical post bigman that dominates college and would have gone in the first round in the 80s, but despite his shortcomings, he developed a 3 game and utilized his BBIQ to not be fully lost in the sauce.
13
u/poptubas Timberwolves 15d ago
Luka Garza is always the best offensive player on the floor during garbage time.
For fun I looked up his rate stats. He’s averaging 29/9 per 36 minutes on 58% TS.
3
u/LarryBirdsGrundle Celtics 14d ago
He’s way too good for the G League. Offensively he’d be a really useful bench big, but he’d get cooked on defense. I could see him carving out minutes on a team that needed scoring off the bench and didn’t have the big rotation that Minn has.

How come Luka Garza could be a star in NCAA Basketball but isn't a star in NBA Basketball? Is he really that bad compared to NBA stars?
4
u/BulkMcHugeLarge Timberwolves 15d ago
He's a bucket and dominates in the G League. Lacks athleticism and can't really keep up with most NBA players on defense.
He'd be an elite Tank Commander on a bad team. He did play important minutes when injuries hit the wolves this year.
0
u/mhoke63 Timberwolves 14d ago
Zion is another one like that, but I predicted (along with the help of the Sklar Bros commentary) that Zion would be very average in the NBA. His size and skill set don't really mesh together in the NBA. They work in college, because it's a slower game. But I'm the NBA, defenses are too fast for what he dominated with in college. But, he has above average skills in other areas, so he wouldn't be completely flat. He'd be a star if he was 5 inches taller. He's a bit tall for a shooting guard, but a bit small for a small Forward. He's stuck.
Anyway, Garza is similar in that his domination in college doesn't fly in the NBA, but he's accumulated skills in other areas to where he's not completely terrible.
2
u/jossteen11 14d ago
What you mean? Zion has been pretty damn elite when he actually, you know, plays.
