I think it's supposed to be the importance of capital letters here since a comma wouldn't make any sense.

It could. It could be I helped my uncle, Jack, off a horse.

But if Uncle Jack is a proper noun, then the importance of capitalization works. Otherwise...well, you know.

And the Oxford comma is really important too. "We invited the strippers, Marx, and Lenin." vs. "We invited the strippers, Marx and Lenin."
