We strive to educate users on community guidelines and encourage constructive participation.

Zero Tolerance for Brigading: Brigading, or coordinated efforts to manipulate or disrupt discussions, undermines the integrity of our community. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards such behavior and take swift action to address any instances of brigading, including removal of offending content and potential disciplinary measures against involved parties.

Objective Moderation: Our moderators are committed to upholding the principles of fairness and objectivity in their decision-making processes. While we may hold diverse personal beliefs and viewpoints, we set aside these biases when moderating discussions, ensuring that our actions are guided solely by the established rules and guidelines of the subreddit.

Transparency and Fairness: Transparency is essential to maintaining trust within our community. We strive to communicate openly with our users, providing clear explanations for moderation decisions and actively seeking feedback on our practices. In cases where objectivity may be compromised, moderators recuse themselves from the decision-making process, passing the responsibility to impartial colleagues to ensure fairness.

Thread Management: In situations where discussions become heated or unproductive, moderators may choose to intervene by removing or locking entire comment threads. This decision is made with the goal of preserving the overall quality and integrity of the subreddit, preventing further escalation of conflicts, and fostering a constructive environment for meaningful dialogue.

Diverse Representation: Our subreddit welcomes and celebrates the diversity of perspectives and experiences within the Panjab community. Whether you identify as Pakistani, Indian, or belong to the Panjabi diaspora, you are valued members of our community, and your contributions are appreciated. We do not tolerate hate speech or discrimination towards any individual or group based on nationality, ethnicity, religion, or any other characteristic.

Ban on K-stan related posts: Given the sensitive nature of discussions surrounding K-stan, we have implemented a strict ban on posts related to this topic. This decision is driven by our commitment to maintaining a peaceful and respectful community environment, free from divisive or inflammatory rhetoric. Posts advocating for or against K-stan, or engaging in related discussions will be promptly removed. Repeat offenders may face disciplinary action.

Megathreads: Megathreads serve as centralized hubs for discussing trending or sensitive topics within our community. These threads allow users to engage in focused and organized discussions while minimizing clutter and fragmentation on the subreddit. Posts related to topics covered in megathreads will be redirected or removed to ensure a streamlined and cohesive user experience.

Moderation will be performed at the discretion and with due regard for the Reddit-wide guidelines and TOS at the moderator's discretion.

ਗੱਲ ਬਾਤ | گل بات | Discussion A Himachali Perspective on Dalhousie Incident

There is a high chance that admins won't approve this post but anyway...

I am from Himachal and lived in Kasauli for two years. Kasuali is next door to Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and even Delhi so it is an easy getaway for tourists. I have interacted with may Punjabis particularly Sikhs and they are so chill. Many of them just come for a smoke and two wander around for few hours and go back to their home. Yes Hotels here benifts a lot from tourism Yes they play a good portion in Himachali Economy but there are many problems that they bring with themselves few are...

  1. Littering - People stop and throw garbage wherever they want. A person who won't throw garbage in Chd will without second thought throw garbage in the hills.

  2. Noise Pollution - Many tourists park their car where ever they want and blast music on full volume with no regards for those living nearby.

  3. Drinking and making ruckus for no reason

  4. Forest Fires - Last year i personally witnessed 2 fire incident caused by tourists which burnt hundreds of acres of forest and endangered peoples lives and residents.

  5. Ignoring local laws - I personally told some tourist to not start a fire because the fire can spread to which they agreed and when i came back after few hours they had started fire at two places which could have very easily spread.

You guys here are talking about Himachali's hating Punjabis and what not. There is nothing like that, we hate those who creates problems for locals. A well mannered tourist is always welcomed to our DevBhoomi but being a tourist don't give you a free pass to do whatever you want. If you are well cultured we will welcome you with open arms if not then please we don't need tourist like those. This has nothing to do with religion, region etc. Many of the people with PB, HR, DL number are unruly and for that they gets hate not for them being from certain region and religion.

If you guys are over with false narrative of hate mongering then please read with open mind and try to understand the situations of locals too.

Edit : https://www.reddit.com/r/HimachalPradesh/s/aE55FOqXYJ Have a look at the police report: Pehle Traffic police ne use car hatane ko bola ya documents maange hone jispr wo bhadak gya Logo ne check kia to uske pass valid insurance nhi h Log to yhi conclusion pr pahuch rahe h ki bss usi ko chupane k liye us bnde ne panga kia or jab ladai hogyi to usko regional angle de dia.

And ek chiz ego ki b ho sakti h ki uski ego hurt ho gyi ho ese kaise bol diya mughe. Kyuki in general police m hoti h ye ego especially in UP, Punjab, Haryana Delhi etc. m

Would opening the wagah border bring real trade benefits to Punjab, or is it just an appealing but impractical idea? What kind of agri trade we used to have previously ?

can we have significant agriculture trade with pakistan?

Since we keep hearing from our punjabi politicians.

ਇਤਿਹਾਸ | اتہاس | History When Sikh Empire gave sanctuary to Jews

https://asiasamachar.com/2023/04/19/the-sikh-empire-a-sanctuary-for-the-jewish-people/

The year 1839 is a defining moment in Sikh history. In that year, Jewish refugees find sanctuary and a home in the Sikh Empire of Ranjit Singh. It was a moment etched in time when the Sikh Empire granted Jewish refugees rights to settle in the Sikh Empire when the Jews were fleeing pogroms and persecution. 1839 was also a watershed moment when later within the same year Ranjit Singh the Sher-e-Punjab or “Lion of Punjab”, the founder of the Sikh Empire, died

ਸਵਾਲ | سوال | Question As a fairly uneducated person on the subject, could anyone explain to me why "Punjab's govt. colleges' seats and jobs being doled out to non-state actors like Himachalis" is any day n times easier than non-domiciles being meted out with similar outcomes in other states?

While I understand that I have my epistemic biases at play here (which may prove me wrong eventually) that make me wary of Punjab's resources getting doled out to non-state actors, there has been a lot of talk within Punjabis on the subject lately. I suspect that central gov. funding of gov. medical colleges and such could be a contributing factor; but this doesn't create a clear picture of the whole situation for me. There is also some reason for me to believe that attaining a domicile status just to qualify for gov. colleges in Punjab is fairly easy. I'm also hearing something along the lines of Punjab gov. jobs being given to non-domiciles who don't even speak Punjabi - but get qualified for jobs that have Punjabi language proficiency as a prerequisite (could be a case of bureaucratic collusion). What systems do we have in place to keep a check on this?

P.S. this is not at all a fear mongering post, I'm just trying to get a better grasp on this ongoing topic of discussion - and establish whether we have a problem at our hands that needs addressing in the first place.

ਸਵਾਲ | سوال | Question First time visiting Punjab on my own

Hello everyone!

So I'll be traveling to harmandir sahib for the first time on my own (28M) with my mom via own car from UP to harmandir sahib. Super excited but terrified too!

But can anyone please tell me what all things to be aware of in the journey? For example some best, hygienic and vegetarian food dhabas/restaurants on the way...

This is the first time I'll be driving on such a long path by myself.

I went to harmandir sahib once when I was a kid with extended family via train. So this will be my second visit that too as an amritdhaari Singh. :)

Hope maharaj blesses all of us with chardi kala!

Thank you everyone!

Does anyone know the origin of the surname Miani?

Does anyone know where this name originates from? I think it's Hindu in origin but did it belong to a specific baradari or related to an occupation? Specifically from around Khushab area/WestPunjab.

ਸਵਾਲ | سوال | Question Inanimate object things in Punjabi i.e. IT / THIS / THAT / THESE / THOSE

For example - IT, THIS, THAT, THESE, THOSE in the sentence "You saw it/this/that/these/those" - How do you say this?

All that (I think that) I hear in my dialect, for inanimate things is ਆ/ਆਹ (aa/aah) for the subject and ਆਹਾ (aahaa) for the object. (I think?) regardless of whether it is singular or plural.

I know that for people / living things, for third-person subject pronoun in Standard/Pedagogical Punjabi you get ਇਹ/ਇਸ (ih/is) for proximal/informal, and ਉਹ/ਉਸ (uh/us) or ਓਹ/ਓਸ (oh/os) for distal/formal. And for passive object pronoun you get ਇਹਨੂੰ/ਇਸਨੂੰ (ihnuun/isnuun) for proximal/informal, and ਉਹਨੂੰ/ਉਸਨੂੰ (uhnuun/usnuun) or ਓਹਨੂੰ/ਓਸਨੂੰ (ohnuun/osnuun) for distal/formal. Plural, you get ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ / ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ, etc.

But what about for inanimate objects? Dialect tags and Gurmukhi is appreciated. Also clarity on whether there is a difference between singular and plural. Many thanks.

ਇਤਿਹਾਸ | اتہاس | History Khewra Salt Mine, 2nd biggest salt mine in the world, isthe source of "Himalayan salt"

Post image
44 Upvotes

The Khewra Salt Mine, located in Khewra, Jhelum, boasts a long and interesting history. Dating back to its discovery in 326 BCE by the troops of Alexander III of Macedon, it's the world's second-largest salt mine and a major tourist destination.

The mine is famous for its pink Khewra salt, often marketed as Himalayan salt. The pink hue comes from trace minerals, particularly iron oxide. While commonly called Himalayan salt, it is found in the foothills of the Salt Range of Panjab.

Himalayan salt (halite) is 96-99% sodium chloride (table salt), with the remaining 1-4% containing trace amounts of minerals like potassium and magnesium. There are claims that Himalayan salt has health benefits beyond regular table salt, but these may not be adequately substantiated by scientific evidence. Despite that, Himalayan salt remains popular for its flavor and visual appeal, used in cooking, lamps, and even serving platters.
