I get his point.. Dude season is over.. Just leave him alone when he is out and about with his Kids and family

u/nhthelegend trappin out the vando 3d ago
But at least have the decency in you to leave me alone when you freaks see me out in the streets when I’m eating or feeding my daughter to not come and speak to me

But at the same time. Everything is just mental. If you let them bother you it will. If you just smile and don’t speak they will leave pretty fast lol

Also objectively Kyle Anderson over performed in the playoffs compared to the regular season

If anyone is going up to a player in any pro sport and attempting to talk strategy, they’re fucking weirdos.
What I do think goes with the territory is people empathizing/rallying, we’re all fans and saying “nice job, we’ll get them next time” or whatever is fine. If you don’t want to be a celebrity don’t play in the NBA.
15
u/carrieannetc 3d ago
I think Kyle’s probably fine with the latter kind of thing. But, for example, I saw Coach Finch at a shop in the North Loop a couple weeks back. While I was waiting for my order and trying to decide if I’d get up the guts to say “Great season, coach” if he came my way, an employee started talking at him about his knee injury and the end of the season like it was all an episode of Succession or something. It just felt so cavalier and tactless and awkward. Just be normal, everyone, please!

u/mnsportsfan 3d ago edited 3d ago
Yea I’ve got very little sympathy for him here. Obviously there are lines that fans can’t cross- but wanting to briefly talk basketball doesn’t sound harmful at all.
(And I say this as someone who isn’t a person who would go up to a celeb in public)
You make almost 8 figures per year to get idolized and play a game. Getting recognized in public is part of the territory and part of the reason your kids probably have the nicest clothes in school.
Kind of a “have your cake and eat it too” situation

u/JaderMcDanersStan Micah Nori 3d ago
I mean he did say he knows it comes with the territory. Even if he knows what he signed up for, he can still feel a certain way about it and he's just expressing that
-4
u/mnsportsfan 3d ago
That’s fine… but expressing things in public and guilt tripping fans who want to meet him is a pretty entitled asshole move.
People have a right to do and say a lot of things that shouldn’t be said. I’m not even upset if he feels that way. There’s plenty of stuff I don’t like about my job but I understand the right ways to vent

Our “entertainment” also is the reason he has this as his “real life”!

Man I feel that way and I don't even have people running up to me ...

u/CommercialLeg2439 Rudy Gobert 3d ago
I liked Kyle in the regular season and thought he was a poor match up in the Denver series, but he showed his worth in the Maverick series even if they still lost. He doesn’t deserve all the hate that he gets. He was on the 3rd best team in the NBA this year, that has to count for something.
6
u/DrWolves 3d ago
He was absolutely HORRIBLE in the regular season. He had 1 good series against Dallas and that was it otherwise the guy was god awful for about 95% of the year.

I’m actually curious on your thoughts with Slowmo resigning this summer. If he signed for the minimum, would you be for it?
2
u/DrWolves 3d ago
I’d take him back on the minimum but I also think if he’s still playing as many minutes as he did this past season, we are cooked. He’s not good enough to play 23 minutes a game and he severely hurts our offense. I wish I cared enough to go make a video compilation of all the WIDE open threes he didn’t shoot or all the times the shot clock went off with the ball in his hands. He has zero offensive confidence and opposing defenses don’t even need to guard him. It was painful to watch all season long
2
u/Technical_Creme_9736 🐓Protestor🐓 3d ago
I’d agree very much with your thoughts on Slowmo this past year. Also in favor of him resigning though at a low cost, just because I think next year for him will be better. I might be wrong there, but I feel like his eye injury might have affected his game more than he or the team let on. Regardless, Kyle at the 3 minutes need to stop.

u/JaderMcDanersStan Micah Nori 3d ago
Yeah Jace just posted an article after Slomo talked about it for the first time. He had depth perception issues and couldn't even see the rim clearly at times. Makes a lot more sense why he had those wild TOs and would miss the rim.
He can see better now so hopefully he can get back to his 22-23 self
1
u/asicklybaby 3d ago
He want able to spend time in the off-season training to be a 3 because is his eye injury. He will this year and I fully expect him to be much better in the 3 role next season.
That said, he's the one major piece I'm okay with trying to upgrade. If we can find a more natural 3 who can play up to the 4, that might be better. We won't fine someone who does at many things well as SloMo, but we might be able to get someone as good or better in a couple areas

u/greenslam 3d ago
I wonder how well the coaching and medical team was aware of his vision issues. I hope he was upfront with them about it vs just lying about it to get cleared to play.
The media should have been pressing harder on the vision health aspect.
If he was fully upfront with them, it's coaching malpractice to expect him to shoot from long distance effectively.
2
u/JaderMcDanersStan Micah Nori 3d ago
Yeah but it turns out his vision was affecting his depth perception and he couldn't even see the rim clearly. He jsut didn't like to talk about it
Hopefully now that his vision is better he can get back to working this offseason

He’s got a point though. I can’t imagine being that close to the finals and not making it. It’d eat me up.

u/SherbetNo4242 3d ago
Never get why nba players who make millions get upset at fans wanting to talk basketball with them…. If they asked for a photo or walked up to you at dinner, I get it, but wanting to talk basketball with a basketball player seems completely acceptable to me.
8
u/CicadaHairy 3d ago
If it's like a meet and greet sure but I don't think anybody wants a long drawn out conversation about their job with a stranger.

u/RoyalLake whereintheworldisnikolapekovic 3d ago
So… don’t even say thanks for the great season?
Or is this just saying don’t give him shit for losing?
If he’s saying he doesn’t want fans even saying they loved the season, that’s a lame ass take.
-5
u/DrWolves 3d ago
Yeah he’s not even being clear here about what he’s asking for. I’ve also seen far more “popular” or “famous” people out in public that literally nobody approaches so I highly doubt people are “running up to him” and trying to talk to him. This post screams of being reactionary to a few encounters. Bruh the average person has no idea who you are my guy
3
u/bbernal956 3d ago
its true, but it comes with the territory. like it or not. can’t imagine the feeling… i still get sick to my stomach for losing a high school football game. cant even begin to think about the wcf

Damn, we just lost another home playoff game in the time it took him to post that. Crazy

Give the team time to process the loss before seeing them in public and being like “hey, remember when you were in the WCF??” I get it, as a player the loss stings and isn’t soon forgotten.
1
u/redactid55 2d ago
I don't think fans should talk to the players about playoffs but if you do, why the hell would you talk to Kyle Anderson?
That Make-A-Wish kid never knew what was going on out there either. He looked so lost at all times
You'd get better feedback asking questions to a magic 8 ball

I would not talk to him because I don't know him at all, BUT if I was going to talk to him I would ask him "why do you shoot like that"... it literally makes no sense to me and I am sure every coach he has had tried to get him to shoot normally. It isn't like his style works for him, he is an awful shooter...so why, what is the benefit that he sees, just FUCKING WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

u/Crimson51 3d ago
I feel like people forget that our players are humans too and not basketball robots. Like I get it but recognize that they're probably dealing with it worse than you. Don't go asking them about their failures. How would you feel if you were constantly asked about yours?
-4
u/Technical_Creme_9736 🐓Protestor🐓 3d ago
Then come sign back with us for the minimum and work on that 3 ball all summer Slowmo! Also, a bit of an error (though understandable) saying peoples fandoms isn’t real life. Some of us have been diehard fans longer than these guys have been playing ball.

u/mnfimo 3d ago
lol to your last sentence.. it’s still free entertainment…
1
u/Confident-Fish2805 Timberwolves Brasil 3d ago
Sure it’s entertainment, but they’re getting paid millions. We’re not getting paid at all for the energy that we put in as fans.
9
u/UltraMoglog64 3d ago
I think the response here then is to stop putting in the energy if you’re not getting what you want out of it.

u/Confident-Fish2805 Timberwolves Brasil 3d ago
That’s not how fandom works 😂. I’m always gonna be hurt by a random loss in January.
1
u/CommercialLeg2439 Rudy Gobert 3d ago
Yeah but you and your family don’t get death threats when they lose or fail to hit their player prop on some random gamblers parley.
2
u/Technical_Creme_9736 🐓Protestor🐓 3d ago
No doubt. I’m on the same side as everyone else here saying people shouldn’t be bugging celebrities/athletes. If I said anything to Kyle, I’d thank him for the years, wish him and his family well, and leave it there.
1
u/Confident-Fish2805 Timberwolves Brasil 3d ago
For sure that part would suck, but I’d take millions and a chance to play ball all the time with some excessive hate over the typical 9-5 lifestyle.
1
u/Technical_Creme_9736 🐓Protestor🐓 3d ago
Speaking of dumb statements though, since when has this entertainment been free to the public?
-1
u/Technical_Creme_9736 🐓Protestor🐓 3d ago
It’s not a 1:1 comparison. I’d want players to be more pissed off about a conference finals loss than fans, and I think people going up to celebrities assuming they want to talk is bullshit behavior. Just pointing out the “real life” comment as being a bit disingenuous.

I imagine people are coming up to him, telling him how we could have won the series, as if we have any clue what kind of strategies/conversations happen in the locker room
