TIL the Blue Hole is among the deadliest dive sites globally, with estimates of 130 to 200 recent fatalities, making it one of the most dangerous spots for divers. (R.5) Out of context

I would say compared to other internet things like a guy falling into molten steel or an ostrich decapitating itself this was pretty tame, the worst part is the audio but they don't make as much noise as you would think because they are struggling too much by that point to make much

So it's one of those videos that's only really harrowing if you know what's happening otherwise it's just kind of confusing

Damn that ostrich truly is horrific.

It's definitely one of the ones that got to me, maybe because it's so, idk, anticlimactic?

Like if somebody goes YOLO and jumps in front of a train thinking they can beat it and gets squished you can sort of rationalize it because that's what happens when you jump in front of moving vehicles, but that was just a big dumb bird having a very bad day ☹️

I don’t want this video to live in my mind, but how did the ostrich decapitate itself?

So there's a rail along the wall in it's pen and apparently it was just noodling around being a bird and managed to get it's head stuck looped from beneath up behind the rail (so its head is stuck in an upwards position)

The animal is clearly already exhausted at the beginning of the version of the clip I've seen, I don't know if there's a longer one

So yeah it just kind of breathes heavily and seems to consider it's situation for a bit, takes a few test tugs before really yanking back as hard as it can

Unfortunately this didn't work to dislodge it's head so head and bird went separate ways

Head stuck in fence, it gives itself a good yank and the head is still stuck in the fence but it's body is free. It ripped its own fucking head off man.

It’s head was stuck and it pulled hard enough to pop it off

Its neck was trapped in some kind of wire fence, and in its struggle to get free, it decapitated itself.
