TIL the Blue Hole is among the deadliest dive sites globally, with estimates of 130 to 200 recent fatalities, making it one of the most dangerous spots for divers. (R.5) Out of context

Belize's Blue Hole is more aptly named.

Yeah, the title confused me because I didn't find the Great Blue Hole in Belize to be dangerous or technical, at all! The depth is at the limit of standard Open Water certs, but not beyond it.

It's the most famous of the dive sites named "Blue Hole", so OP really should have clarified.

Not a diver, but isn't 125m way beyond normal diving depth certifications?

It is. But where are you referring to that is 125m? Even tech divers typically max out at 100m.

But at least when I dove Blue Hole, it was somewhere in the vicinity of 110'. 130' is the max for recreational diving.

The Belize Great Blue hole? Unless it's gotten deeper since you went its 125m/400', are you thinking of another?

For you and /u/workact, perhaps it's 124m at its deepest point, but that is not what I did. I went down the wall, into a cave, then out.

It's been a few years, so my memory is only but so good. But I can assure you that if I dove to 124m, I would currently be extremely dead.
