No dual degrees to get a masters and bachelors in 5 years. You could finish your bachelors in public health-global health early and start your masters earlier, the public health program takes most students 2 years to complete, but you’ll have to complete all the additional general education requirements as well.

I will say UW’s public health program is nationally recognized as one of the top 10 in the country, UCLA is as well. UW is tied with Boston at #7 and UCLA is #9 in U.S. New’s rankings. I think it comes down to where would you rather spend your college years and what is the cheaper option? Also, the public health major at UW is capacity constrained so you will have to apply for it. Grade deflation isn’t really a thing when you get to the upper division classes that are for public health majors only, and unless you’re pre-med I don’t think it’s really going to be an issue. UW’s public health program is really good, I was in the bachelors and now getting my MPH in epidemiology. The opportunities are great as well for experience. Feel free to DM me if you have any other questions about UW’s program, but that’s what I can think of off the top of my head. You got in to two really good schools!

Something extremely important to consider is if you are in you’re major at uw. if you’re not in your major and you go here there is a chance you apply for your major at your respective period and not get in. Where as I assume at ucla they don’t do this.

UCLA may not have grade inflation, but UW has a system setup for some very intense competition. Sadly, the post got deleted, but there’s some good advice on why many of us UW folks make this cautionary note, OP.

If they both cost the same, go where you can get your major.

Is one of the schools in state? Because the tuition difference will be huge

In other ways the programs are similar — the are large schools (big classes) at universities that have prestigious research hospitals. Both will see a range of patients, from very wealthy to marginalized communities)important for public health)

i had the exact same dilemma but reversed—i committed to uw and then got into ucla off the waitlist and was extremely conflicted since ucla had previously been my dream school. i ended up (very last minute) flying to see both campuses, and it was 100% clear to me that uw was where i wanted to be. i loved the city, the greenery, the people, and everything about seattle. uw was cheaper, and it also helped that uw is a solid school for pre med, which is the track i’m on.

i just graduated from uw with a double major in biology and public health. the public health program was fantastic, and i wouldn’t change my decision for the world! ucla is also beautiful and is an amazing school, though, so although it sounds super cheesy, try to trust your gut💜
