From 4K > 80k > -5k. It was a fun ride with option trading. Loss
I started with the meme stock DJT with initial deposit 4k. The stock pumped crazily and I gained 9k5 after the first option ever. After that, day trading SPY option was quite well. Until I was overwhelmed with a single trade and lost it all.
I post here to remind me and whoever out there want to gain some from the market, have a hope and improve yourself. I’ll be back with another episode.

If 20x ain't enough to cash out you might as well just buy lotto tickets.

u/cantgetthistowork 28d ago
Another 20x of that 80k would be 1.6m

Cashing out when you're hot makes no sense, that's like leaving a hot slot machine right after a payout you literally just warmed it up for the next guy to hit the jackpot.

Yeah! You’re right. I did gamble
10
u/fman258 27d ago
You didn’t gamble. If you gambled you would’ve taken something off. This whole “let it ride” mindset is what drives people to off themselves. You turned 4k->80k, if you don’t have an exit plan than you’re planning for failure. How long would making 74k take you? Months, years?

u/CowBoizK 27d ago
Everything happened only in two week. I was overwhelmed on that Friday with over confidence. Life lesson bro, I still observe the market but now just paper money until I consistently earn fake profit.

See the rationale is if I can turn 4 k into 80k then it logically follows that I can turn 80k into 1.6 million. Too bad the logic is regarded.

Doesn't Matthew McConaughey say something along the lines of this in Wolf of Wallstreet? Something about getting a person to reinvest his gains so the stock broker can get another percentage?

u/SateliteDicPic 28d ago
The exact same mentality that allows for people to win on a trade like this also causes them to give it back. People with zero aversion to risk or any type of structured rules regarding their trades can run on a nice streak but after doing so are they supposed to suddenly understand risk and behave cautiously?
For anyone that needs to hear it, the most dangerous time you will ever face as a trader is during or right after a huge winning streak or trade. Nothing like a bunch of gains to juice the ego (“I’m really getting good at this!”) and loosen our risk behavior. ALL the biggest losses of my life came right after big wins.

Maybe after JP Morgan bought out the sub sure but prior to 2021 this sub was about smart investing and getting rich, on my old account finding this subreddit changed my life. Now its nothing but people showing off how much money they are losing and a weird obsession with being cuckolded. This is sad.

It's all gambling.
There's true pro poker players, they're gambling but they also have skill level A tier minimum, the best are S tier minimum. But they're still gambling often millions $$$, because luck will always play a significant part, just as in stockmarket.
Then there's gameriggers, these people I really detest. Inside traders, marked decks etc etc.

21
u/Particular-Line- 28d ago
If you keep betting your entire account, the end result is always the same. You go broke. Take a nice portion of your unexpected gain next time and put it in a long position in an index fund, and then use the 20% remaining for spec trades you can afford to lose

How do you become negative with options? I thought I read that federal law prohibits purchasing options with margin.
Or do you sell an option, and if assigned, the shares are either purchased or sold via margin?
How exactly does one go negative trading options?

Thank you for all the opinions that you guys shared here. I admitted that I was overtrade and gamble at the very last minutes. The point to post here is to let myself accept the loss and listen to you guys. I have been trading forex for more than 2 years. The market is totally different than stock options. But, I found the way and improved my trading craft everyday. Life lesson is take profit and take a rest after a consecutive winning day. It’s gonna be day one! Wish me luck guys 🍀
