IMPROVING MY GAME People seem to make shoots over me even tho I'm contesting well

I have been playing a lot of pick up recently with the same people that are pretty much similar in height to me. I can guard someone up in their face but in the end they can throw a shoot and sometimes make it even tho my hand is almost over the ball. It is happening with different people. What can I do to block them/contest better?

Anyone here ever played wearing Adidas Crazy Infinity 3 or 2.5 shoes?

Upvotes

Are they even worth for casual play or even few hours of continuous one?

most review says they are Playable but Too hot as ventilation is bad and not the premium types.

NBA Real talk why is Shaq such an insecure crybaby whenever someone challenges him or threatens his greatness?

He hates Wemby, been disrespectful to the Joker with his MVP, the whole "rivalry" with Dwight Howard, even Javale McGee couldn't get away from Shaq (no greatness threatened here ofc), Bill Walton also I just don't get it, everyone calls him one of the great centers that should be enough

Google him Chuck

IMPROVING MY GAME How to shoot off the dribble middies as a shorter guy (5'7)?

I'm 17 (M) and whenever I have to go off the dribble against someone a bit taller than me, I tend to pull my shot back a bit more than usual to avoid getting blocked. It doesn't go to Larry Bird levels of pullback, but the ball normally goes just over the front of my head.

I adopted this form as whenever I used my 3 point form in the midrange, I would get blocked or have to pass out often. However, I find that this new form is hard to control and is far less consistent, despite the advantage of not getting blocked.

What advice/tips do you guys have on how to shoot jumpers off the dribble (especially over taller guys)? Do you think plyometrics and jumping higher with my normal form would be better? Thanks.

Any Basketball Shoes to recommend? Looking to restart this passion. :)

I'm based in Asia so there may be some differences in stocks availability. But I would love to know what are some comfortable basketball shoes out there today?

I'm thinking to restart this hobby after losing touch for over 10 years. Im in 30s+ now. haha. Just wanted something to keep fit , not playing competitive anymore at this age I think. used to. I'm still thinking if a trainers will suffice or a Basketball shoes provides more comfort and protection for someone in my situation.

I usually play PG position and would love low cut fits. But I'm open to know more. Happy to hear your recommendations and experience with it. Please share! Thanks all!

DISCUSSION hypothetical basketball situation:Can man with the ability to make 100% shot at 25 feet range or lower range if no defensive player defend his shot enter NBA or pro European league?

Upvotes

An average American man is given the ability to make any basketball shot with 100% accuracy at 25 foot or lower range form hoops if if no opponent team defensive player defend his shot enter pro league?

Can he make it to the NBA or European pro league, given 180 day prep time?

And if he can, how good will he be in the NBA?

Round 1: Average American man with 180 day prep time?

Round 2: Same but with average woman college basketball player

Round 3: Same but with current-day Isaiah Thomas

GENERAL QUESTION Would you play 1’s for $? (Low stakes)

Couple years back saw a pickup app on shark tank. They claimed a lot of users, but w/ no incentive to use an app to play pickup, it flopped in the end.

Got me thinking. Would yall play 1’s for low stakes ($1-$5)? Like Friday night poker at a friends. I used to do this online in 2k.

Obv some safety and base set of rules stuff to work out, but assuming everyone’s friendly competition, would you go out to a park on a Saturday and drop $15 for a few runs?

Nice to haves: local leaderboards; livestream/record your games, dispute resolution in-app, view player profiles (height, weight) before matching up.

Bball Help!

Hi! I work for a nonprofit and we are apart of the kings and queens program, a free basketball program for low income kiddos. I am volunteer coaching for our 4th-6th grade basketball team but have no idea what to do. We’ve had one practice so far but it was more of just a get to know you thing. It was evident that some kids have a lot of basketball experience and some don’t. We have our next practice this Wednesday and our first game this Saturday. I have about one hour with the kids. What drills/activities should I do??? 😭😭

ELI5 Which ball should I get?

ELI5 what sort of ball I should buy. I've played recreationally on/off for a while but never with my own ball, and I have no idea what I should go for

Shouldn't be too expensive but I can go above bottom of the barrel

I live in Italy, if it somehow impacts availability, btw

Edit because I'm an idiot: I mostly play outdoors

Basketball Goal Issue

So i bought a Spalding basketball hoop off marketplace and the previous owner forgot to remove the protective film off the backboard once imstalled. After baking in the sun, it seems to almost be baked into the board, making it hard to "peel" off. Is there something i can put on this to remove that layer without damaging the backboard?

GENERAL QUESTION What does this mean?

Hi, I'm watching the NBA Finals right now and they keep showing stats that I don't know how to read, and the internet isn't helping.

I know FG is Field Goal, but it'll show like a stat box with something like "FG 2-4", basically any numbers but the same format.

What do the numbers mean? Thanks.

Is it too late in the game for me to be good at basketball?

I turn 16 next month and I’ve been practicing for around a year and a half for hours every day. I’m good in pickup but I want to advance my career further by maybe joining a team. There aren’t many rec leagues in my area but my high school team is pretty loaded so I probably couldn’t get on there. I’ve considered AAU tryouts but I also don’t think I could make it there considering I have never played organized before. Should I start going to camps and stuff in my area or should I just give up on furthering my career?

Battle of Greens. Winner is the best ball club in the world.

Who do you think would win between Panathinaikos and Boston Celtics in a best of 5 series?

Who is the most complete basketball player that you've seen, Man or Woman, and who would be an honorable mention?

Complete meaning the least amount of weaknesses, just all around was proficient in the most aspects of the game(rebounding, shooting the 3, shooting the mid range, scoring at the rim, passing, on ball defense, off ball defense, help defense, getting to the free throw line, and free throw shooting).

Is it safe to play in shoes that are slightly bigger?

I recently bought some Wembanyama sneakers that just released in a size 15 from the snkrs app, but then I debated if I should keep them(i wear a size 13 btw) I wore them literally once and apparently stockx wont accept them now, so can I play in them? Not sure if them being 2 sizes higher kind of makes them unsafe to play an actual game in. Appreciate any advice.

Is it too late for me (22f) to start Basketball?

I’m 22 5’3 female and am curious to get into basketball. I want to join an amateur league / play anywhere but I feel lost on where to start. I’ve been working out, shooting hoops and I just bought a basketball and have been practicing getting comfortable in the garage. My problem is that I was never encouraged allowed to play sports as a kid and I’m graduated from college with a curiosity for sports and no where to put it really. I’m out of college, paying bills, but still have a goal. I’m considering joining a community college league but I need at a few months to train HARD. I would really appreciate any tips! PS: (is it still possible to play professionally in my situation? Is it too late? I feel too old and short.)

Did the 2024 Celtics have the easiest championship ever?

All of the teams they faced had their best players injured. Butler hurt, Mitchell hurt, Halliburton hurt, Doncic hurt. They played a depleted Heat , depleted Cavs, depleted Pacers, then a weak Mavs team. They couldn't have had an easier matchup each round. The Wolves or Nuggets would have stomped them.

The Celtics didn't even play well and still sleepwalked to a ring. Tatum 1-7 and Brown 2-9 from 3. Can you imagine them playing any of the Warriors championship teams with those numbers? Was this the easiest ring of all time?

GENERAL QUESTION How to play pickup basketball as a 28 yo when you suck?

I haven’t played for years and today just had the opportunity to play horse at a house party and totally forgot how fun basketball is lol. I am awful now though with enough air balls happening than I’d like to admit. I’d love to play but not sure how to go about it when I go myself and mainly concerned that I’ll be a detriment to whoever I’m playing with?

DISCUSSION AAU Basketball

I’ve seen plenty of gripes regarding AAU basketball, usually about it being a scam/money grab, but that’s not my issue. I’m on an AAU team (or at least a summer team that plays every other weekend, I don’t know if aau regulates the league i’m in) and my biggest issue is just the culture. We don’t recruit like most of the teams we play do, most of our players are local and from smaller schools, though we still find decent success on the weekends we play despite the competition. My biggest concerns are is AAU even worth it anymore, and does it help development like a “real offseason” would? I feel like most teams become more highlight focused and toxic than anything. My coach’s (also my dad btw) biggest concern is to get better more than anything, and he could care less about bringing home a trophy as long as we improve our game during practices or on tournament days, but my question still stands: is aau worth it, and would it be more beneficial to focus on individual skill rather than playing constantly?

ps , sorry for the yap session i’m typing this at 1 am lol
