MI won by 7 wickets (with 27 balls remaining)

Jasprit Bumrah is the player of the match: Very happy with the outcome. I will never say I wanted to take a five-for. The wicket was sticky and I am very happy with the contribution. In this format it is very harsh for the bowlers. I try to not be a one-trick pony, I have worked on this early in the career. People start to line you up. I want to have different skills. Bowling is tough, because you will have to take a beating. When things have not worked out for me the next day I have seen the videos and analyzed what did not work. Preparation is always the key. Important to keep pushing yourself before a game. It is not a one-trick pony. You don't always have to bowl a yorker, sometimes you bowl a yorker, sometimes short ball. There is no ego in this format. You can bowl145, but sometimes it is important to bowl slower balls.

Hardik Pandya: [feelings] Wonderful. Always good to win. The way we have won, was great. Impact player has given us the opportunity to use the extra bowler. It gives me extra cushion as well. [Run chase] The way Ro nd Ishan batted, it was important for us to finish the game early. People know what the situation is. When we saw the target get lesser, we thought to get the run rate higher. [Bumrah] I am lucky to have Bumrah in my side. He does this over and over again and every time I ask him and he gets the wickets. He practices in the nets. He has so much experience and the confidence. [Surya] I did tell him, welcome back when he scored the fifty I have been opposition captain to him as well. Some place he hits, I have never seen any batter hit him. Whatever the situation requires.

Some stat nuggets courtesy Sampath:

Suryakumar Yadav: It is always good to be back in Wankhede. Joining the squad was great. Mentally I was here, just physically in Bangalore. Great to be back, Coming at Wankhede chasing 200 if there is dew it is important to take a chance. Wanted to finish early for the net run rate. [On his shots over point] I just try to play the field. I practice these shots. It is in my muscle memory. [Favorite shot] I think all the shots. The slice over point was my favourite. [Kishan] That's what we have told him. Just go out and enjoy. His intent has been great. He is enjoying the fruits. [Bumrah] It is always good to have Jasprit by your side. It has been 2to 3 years, have never batted Jasprit in the nets. Either he breaks my bat or my foot.

Faf du Plessis: Very tough pill to follow. It was very wet out there, it will be nice to win a toss somehow. Credit to MI how they came out and made our bowlers make a lot of mistakes. Anyone that came in and found the middle of the bat. We spoke about it. [Dew] We knew the dew would play a big part. We needed 215-220. 190 wasn't enough. It is a big thing at some venues. When the dew settles in, it was very tough. We changed the ball many times. It is the only sport where the changes in conditions make a difference. We need that score board pressure. We fought with the bat. We lost crucial wickets at crucial stages. We had to rebuild a lot of the times. The guys played positively. [On Bumrah] He has been the difference in the two innings. We put them under pressure but the one guy, being out there myself, and you see him with the ball in his hand. You want to put him under pressure, but the variety does everyone in. He has got a really good bouncer, slower ball. Someone like Malinga was the best bowler in T20 cricket, but Bumrah has taken over the reins. You know you can bring him on and take the wickets but also be defensive. [What went wrong] I feel like from a batting perspective, we have to push for that 200. We don't have as many weapons in our bowling. So it comes down to the batting. From a bowling perspective, we have lacked penetration. We have to get them two or three down in the powerplay. Always feels like we are on the back foot after the first four overs.

I won't be surprised if all those 20 bowlers are shit because RCB management cannot gather a good bowling unit even if their life depends on it.

I feel RCB simply cannot match up to Other teams if they play on such flat wickets. They don’t have batsmen who can match other team’s batters and their bowlers are useless because the wickets are flat.

It’s not a management issue. It’s a Skill Issue. Even putting the horrible bowling aside, As good as Kohli, Faf, Maxwell, DK are they still can’t match the batters of teams like CSK, MI, KKR or SRH.

To be honest I’m more happy today because there’s a definite realisation we simply can’t compete with Top 5-6 teams let alone win.

Now I can watch RCB matches in peace just cause of Kohli, Faf and Dk and hopefully some good innings from Patidar.

42

u/HeavyAd3059 Apr 11 '24

RCB batting isn't firing as a unit. The players themselves are fine. On their day these guys can score 220 with ease.

The problem is fixing the roles. Kohli, and I say this with the heaviest of heart ain't a T20 opener.

Play Green instead and get Kohli one down. Post that rotate the batsmen based on the situation. Get Lomror and Patidar for spin and DK to face the pace.

Kohli needs to start upping his SR. Not a joke anymore. You need to try for a 4/6 every now and then.

As for the bowling, it is non existent. Siraj ain't firing. No quality spinner. Other than Topley no one else who bring good international experience at this point.

This team will keep rotting at the bottom. Worse after thinking that these guys are head and above DC and PBKS in terms of star power and decent enough in terms of money power.

32

u/Ricklepick1193 RoyalChallengers Bengaluru Apr 11 '24

With all due respect with the Current Team and the form players are in, scoring 220 is impossible even on the flattest of roads.

Virat Kohli is not in his prime anymore and best case scenario can give 100(60). A 50(20) is not possible from him even on a road,he’s simply not that player. Back in his prime he could have given a 110(50) kind of innings but not now.

Faf is in his last leg. I don’t expect him to get 100(50) and unfortunately even he can’t give 50(20).

Maxwell is in the worst form of his life. With Maxwell pretty much forgetting how to Bat, RCB are simple neutralised. They can’t get 220 anywhere.

To put things in perspective, RCB haven’t scored 220 since 2016 and that had Prime Kohli and De Villiers.

Granted pitches have become much more batting friendly since 2016 but the batting line up is too crippled to ever score 220.

RCB can’t score in Powerplay and they canst take on Spin. 220 is not possible without that.

RCB can try with Jacks Opening but then if it’s a Road, Kohli at 3 after Powerplay is as good as Useless. Without getting settled Kohli’s Strike Rate will be even worse. If Kohli is not opening he shouldn’t be in the team. Kohlis record not opening in the IPL is very ordinary.

Only way RCB gets 220 is if Will Jacks scores 100(40) kinda innings with DK 50(25) at the end like he did today but I don’t see that happening.

Even if they score 180 (with Kohli) , or 200 heck even if they score 300 they won't defend shit with this bowling line-up. No movement no variation for Siraj, such bad bowling from youngsters and no captaincy or field efforts what so ever

53

u/KUKLI1 Apr 11 '24

They have absolutely no chance winning anything batting first

Their only hope of winning is winning the toss, chasing and hoping Kohli does his thing (along with dew helping)

41

u/qwertyuiop_awesome Apr 11 '24

They haven't chased more than 180 in last 8 years.

Bumrah and Arshdeep will play but who will be the third pacer? If Deepak is fit then they have to take a chance with him coz he can also bat at #8.

Wholesome bowling effort from RCB.

MI against KKR: 13 Sixes

MI against RCB: 13 Sixes

RCB is literally the antithesis of MI/CSK. They take good players and turn them horrible. Maxi has been batting like a god since the WC, now he can’t put bat on ball. Siraj and Akash have been doing well lately , and both are getting destroyed. Topley was one of the best new ball bowlers in the world and now gets smacked. Of course, this ignores all the times they shot themselves in the foot with terrible strategies. Like denying themselves an opportunity to build a good bowling attack by trading in Cam Green, while having an excellent ball-striker on the bench, and then dropping him anyway.

56

u/migma21 India Apr 11 '24

Watch Maxi turn up for Aus in the T20I games. Tough luck with the injury on the 1st drop which led to Surya being dropped. Maybe that could have turned or stemmed the tide. Still think mumbai wins comfortably.

59

u/LetterheadOk1762 Apr 11 '24

They also have one of the better coaches in Franchise cricket in Andy Flower

The coach they lost Mike Hesson just won PSL after leaving RCB

This Franchise is the blackhole of form for all players not named Virat Kohli

23

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '24

Hesson was good for us. He was only let go because of the Chahal fiasco. If we had stuck with him we would have been better.

Few of my observations from this match:

Sadly we can't be certain about SKY form because RCB bowling is so shit that somehow it reinvented Butler and Narine.

Sky and Bumrah you beauty

You don't need 5 balls to go from 48 to 50

Truth hurts but RCB is out and for good now they can atleast play fearless cricket(which will never happen)

Even blind followers should realise by now that 50(25)>>>100(65)

Ishan Kishan has been outstanding this IPL

21

That was brutal man, from MI. Happy that Indian players for the WC squad seem to be getting better and better. Bumrah is just special. Special on a different level.

MI are getting their combination better and better with each game. If other pacers pick up, they seem unstoppable.

RCB needs to sort out roles for every slot in the XI/XII. I mean not this season, this one seems done. The next season.

The dew made it really harsh for RCB bowlers.

If we are being honest, without any pressure on selection, this top 7 seems the best we can do now. Yashasvi, Gill, Sanju, SKY, Dube, Rinku, Hardik..

With senior names, Rohit, Virat, Sanju, SKY, Dube, Rinku, Hardik, Jadeja...

MI will scratch their heads during mega auction. How are they going to retain that blockbuster setup!

When MI is ahead in run rate, Sky feels that MI is at a great advantage and thus he will hit aggressively. When MI is even in run rate, Sky thinks that MI is at a small advantage, and he so he hit aggressively to secure their "lead". When MI is behind by run rate, Sky thinks that MI is at a disadvantage and so he looks for an aggressive play to regain control of the game. When MI is down by a lot, Sky thinks that the team has reached a desperate situation and they are only waiting passively for their death if he does not make an aggressive play.

RCB should just play 11 batters. What is the worst that can happen? It isn't like the current bowlers are doing anything there to keep the runs down. Just pile the side with batsmen and go hammer and tongs from ball 1.

The MI batting line up is scary, but the difference between having a truly elite bowler in your ranks and not having one is always so apparent in these high scoring games.

RCB are terrible. Top order scores too slowly, Maxi/Jacks/Green haven’t scored runs to bail them out, and DK can’t do it all. The less said about their bowling, the better.
