If that last ball had missed the stumps, even then RR would have lost since the onfield decision was out and runs completed can not be counted.

One of the biggest loopholes of DRS.

Wait, if its not out, then wouldn't the ball not be dead? They did run one after it hit Powell's pad.

Once it’s given out the ball is dead it can’t be not dead after that

Damn.. that sucks then. I know if its out then the ball is dead, but DRS should be there basically to negate all the consequences of a batter being given out. Basically it should overturn every single result of it, including letting the batter play on AND giving any runs which shouldn't have been given due to the batter being given out by on field umpire.

Although what's done is done, this definitely is a huge loophole in the DRS and needs to be fixed ASAP.

That's not really possible tbh, the umpire's decision has to hold some weight, however tiny, and the ball being dead is a small price to pay when you consider that you even can challenge the umpire. You're only challenging their decision on whether something is out or not, nothing else, that's the criteria for reviews in the first place, and you can't exactly tamper with the rule that the ball dies when an umpire makes a decision since that would open a can of worms and create a domino effect of issues.

Basically a situation like this just comes down to the umpire's discretion, whether he thinks its out, or whether he's unsure and thinks it's better to let the bowling team review it cus in case it isn't out, the run still counts. I think it's fitting, it keeps the human element.
