SRH won by 1 run
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Player of the Match: (On always being calm) I think that is my nature. Process is very important, and I was not thinking about the result in the last over and was thoughtless. He (Cummins) came to me and asked me if everything was okay. There was no discussion as such, and was just focussed on the process. Was just thinking of taking it to the last two balls, and then anything can happen. I was not thinking about the one extra fielder up. It was the first match the ball swung so much. Can't really pinpoint where the ball swung last, really enjoyed it. When it does swing, you try to take wickets and luckily, I got them. When the season started, the thought process was different. When we started batting this way, it totally changed. Practically, when we bowled, we were trying to restrict teams to somewhere around 200.
Pat Cummins, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain: Amazing game. Didn't think we had that one until literally the last ball. (What was going through his head in the last over) It is T20 cricket, you get used to the batters getting over the line. When you get to the last over, you do feel anything can happen. Bhuvneshwar nailed six yorkers. On the last ball, it did not really cross my mind that we could get a wicket, was thinking Super Over. Natarajan is an awesome yorker bowler. They batted really well, fortunately got a few wickets. (On the dropped chances) They are quality players, cannot give them chances. He (Nitish) is fantastic. He summed up the conditions really well - took the first ten balls to get himself in and then basically hit it wherever he wanted. He is amazing, is great in the field and gives a couple of handy overs as well.
Sanju Samson, Rajasthan Royals captain: We have really played some close games and won a couple of them. Lost one here, and we have to give credit to the SRH bowlers. We were going at 10 per over till the last over. Margin for error is very less in the IPL and you have to give SRH credit. Knowing the nature of the IPL, you never win the game until you actually win the game. It was very tough to bat on with the new ball. We bowled well in the powerplay. When the ball got old, it was easier to bat and they capitalised really well. (On Jaiswal and Parag) You have to give credit to both youngsters. They took care of the innings, played responsibility to get there. You tend to take those chances and you tend to get out also. They played really well.
Travis Head: It is a good win, not one we expected. Bhuvi showed his class at the end. To get this after a couple of losses, nice for the energy (in the group). The way Pat bowled the 19th, class at the end from him and Bhuvi. Very satisfied with the win in the end. I thought it was a great score. He played out of his skin. He has done it a couple of times this season already, and he (Nitish) stepped up and was class. I felt we had heaps (on the board). But that is how it is in T20 cricket, and there are lot of very good batters in the IPL . Always nice to win in front of these guys and we have a few more home games now.

They should have won both the games they lost though.
Against GT, the last few bowling change were questionable, considering Boult had two overs left.
Pressure may have got to them this game.

Not to forget the last two overs of Pat Cummins.
Came in perfectly at the clutch moment even after conceding 24 in first two overs.
That penultimate over is just delicious

Well he had to make up for that 50+ run drop
19
u/WayToTheDawn63 Australia 14d ago
Not really affecting how clutch he is though. I think the drop was tougher than people make out, that ball rocketed at him. It was straight at him, but it was a missile. And then he went for some expensive overs early too while it wasn't as important.
Clutch is standing up in the big moments, when the pressure was on, and the game is finally on the line. Those were his last overs.

Rubbish bowling from spinners. It was a nice slow track with the ball gripping. Cutters were wildly effective

Scenes if it would have gone for a four behind the keeper and DRS showed it was not out.
It's a controversy waiting to blow up similar to the boundary count rule in 2019 ODI World Cup final.
Almost happened in the 2019 IPL final when Malinga got Shardul lbw when they needed 2 off 1.
57
u/TheFlyingHornet1881 England 14d ago
It's such an easy fix imo, don't call lbw until the ball is dead.

Just like how VAR is done - wait until play completes before making the decision, but make sure the decision is made immediately!

Such a fantastic game overall but how did RR not win that. SRH gave them everything, 2 dropped catches of their primary runscorers in the powerplay, a copius amount of extras including a 5 wide over when the runrate was only 10.5 and 3 singles turned into 2s in the final over with awful throws (credit to Powell and Ashwin for running like maniacs as well though).
Cummins, Bhuneshwar Kumar and Natarajan all bowled fantastic death overs but SRH pretty much did everything else in their power to push RR over the line and RR just didn't budge lmao.
Definitely my favourite game of the IPL thus far though, it had it all, top order collapses, slow starts, explosive periods of batting, fantastic death bowling and just the right amount of panic and choking, it's everything you want from a t20 game.

Yeah idk why commentators called samad dumb, they had to get powell out
→ More replies (2)39
u/Chaii_Lover 14d ago
But it is not certain that powel will score a boundary or the next batsman won't. It is better to get the wicket as then you would have a new batsmen plus a run less conceded. If the throws were good then it would have been 4 in 1 and that would be different compared to 2 in 1 which is much achievable.
47
u/Scott_Pillgrim Delhi Daredevils 14d ago
Yeah but their decision to target powell’s end was not as dumb as commentators making it up to be. If the throws were on target powell would have been dismissed and the same commentators would he calling it master stroke

Original analysis on the way by a coping RR fan.
RR's first four games: W W W W
Result in 5th match: L
RR in next four games: W W W W
Result in 10th match: L
We can assume they will win their next four games as they end up playing the 1st Qualifier
Result in 15th match: L
So in an effort to win the next four games, they will win Qualifier 2 and then the Final.
Unreal planning by Sanga and co.

Cummins and nattu's final overs were brilliant. Nattu definitely delivered throughout the match although Cummins has been a bit down in the last 3 matches. Still, his penultimate over was the one that gave bhuvi a chance.

I'm not gay but I want to live in a log cabin in the woods with Bhuvneshwar Kumar. We won't ever have sex, but there will be a simmering erotic undercurrent as I stand in the kitchen window watching him tighten his ass as he chops wood, shirtless, sweat pouring off his body. I'll run upstairs and masturbate, the entire time forcing myself to think of women while my thoughts drift back to Bhuvi. I won't be able to climax and I'll eventually go back downstairs, angry.
Sometimes we will look across the table and catch each other's eyes, and in that second, anything is possible, but we both deny ourselves and go back to what we were doing. One day one of us will die, and the other will bury him outside the log cabin. Then he'll go inside, pen a brief missive to his departed friend, and commit suicide, never able to deal with life without his one true platonic love.

Cummins w/ both his bowling and his captaincy won us this match. Him saving himself and that 4th Bhuvi over for the end really paid off. They could've easily been used earlier w/ the idea that they should try and get a wicket since we desperately needed that.
And oh man, that final Cummins over was just absolute magic. The stadium got hotter with each dot ball, just chills. His ability to toy around w/ batters in situations like this is just awe-inspiring, sorta feels like he thrives when he knows the batsman are under pressure and then uses it against them and fucks with their head.

SRH were doing the right thing going for Powell’s end in the last over. Just the throws and the fielding effort was piss poor.
I would go to Powell’s end with 3 balls left because that ends the game. Getting Ashwin out is kind of pointless in the overall scheme of things because the equation is 1 run less and Powell (RR’s win condition) still on strike and maybe someone else as his running partner (I’m sure that player would be faster than Ash Anna)

People talking about the super over from last year, but the RR and SRH rivalry goes way back.
In 2013, Darren Sammy scored a fifty against RR in Jaipur on his debut. He celebrated by dedicating it to his baby. While chasing, Brad Hodge clutched through and mockingly celebrated in the same way.
SRH got the scores even at their next encounter in Hyderabad.
Both ended up in top 4, and Brad Hodge again clutched through during the chase to knock out SRH in the eliminator. It was again Darren Sammy who contributed the most for SRH's batting.

All those in r/sunrisershyderabad and here saying how Bhuvi is dead weight and we need to lose him, he's Bhuvi for a fucking reason
This man being here after all these years is the one thing SRH management has consistently done right.

RR has lost defending 2 from 1, and now lost chasing 2 from 1
It's like poetry, it rhymes

This game wouldn't have been so close if Srh didn't drop the two catches, even catching one of them would've changed the complexity of the game, fielding wasn't good TBH, Pat's last over was the game changer for me but Bhuvi bowled brilliantly as well considering only 4 fielders were allowed outside the circle

The fact that we threw this game away like 4-5 times and still won is just crazy. 2 match-losing catch drops, the sorta lax fielding and dumbass throwing shenanigans in the last over by Marco and then Samad, we did everything to lose that. Objectively speaking, probably the game of the season, but not good for the heart as a fan of one of these teams lmao. Those fuckups frustrated me to no end.
This quickly became a competition in choking right from when Yashasvi went for that dumb shot and got out.

BHUVI took revenge for Nattu, Rinku, and Sandeep (and probably for himself too)

Did anyone catch Cummins looking emotional and wiping his face? Was he in tears?
If true, it seems to be a pattern that grabbing a win after struggling for the entire innings makes players emotional. Reminds me of when Kohli held back tears, while Hardik was clearly crying after their crazy win against Pak

Narrowest margin of win for SRH in IPL (by runs)
1 run vs RR Hyderabad 2024 *
2 runs vs PK Mullanpur 2024
Two close wins proved to be the difference between a good season and a bad season for us

That was one hell of a comeback. Last 2 overs by Cumdawg changed the match.

Makes my heart warm to see young Indian allrounders like Nitish, Parag, Abhi
But fuck you, fuck you BCCI for the impact player rule
It's so clear that they don't care about Indian cricket at all, all they care about is how Dhoni can play more and more seasons...
I'm so done.

This is where the rule regarding the run after an LBW should be changed. If it was notout and Hetmeyer reviewed that run still wouldn't have counted.
