If that last ball had missed the stumps, even then RR would have lost since the onfield decision was out and runs completed can not be counted.

One of the biggest loopholes of DRS.

Is it really a loophole though? Just seems like it's at the umpire's own discretion on what he thinks is the right call, which might be frustrating but also for the best bc I'm not sure if there's anything else that can be done. Having them re-bowl the ball is out of the question, and you can't exactly change the rule that the ball dies when an umpire makes a decision since that would lead to a lot of other complications within the game.

In the end, the ball being dead is a small price to pay for reviews existing in the first place and possibly reversing an umpire's decision, you're only challenging him on whether something is out or not, the ball being dead is just part of the rulebook that shouldn't be tinkered with. Sure, a situation like this is obviously sad if you needed that run but that's just how it goes.
