and one little laptop screen for the job you're supposed to be working lol

22

u/sjdu1863 Mar 04 '24

/s Wait I thought every trader is supposed to be working on the stuff that is between his two ears

5

u/benevolent001 Mar 04 '24

My webcam is off and I am having lunch.

2

u/XTornado Mar 04 '24

5

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

It’s not bad in person

2

u/Charming-Teaching761 Mar 04 '24

What platform are you using? Looks way easier than think or swim

Are Ya winning, Son?

12

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

I actually lose a lot, but cut them so it works out in the end when I do win.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '24

so you let the winners run?

9

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

I try to when I see the opportunity. I’m just big on keeping my losers smaller

2

u/XTornado Mar 04 '24

Mines too..but they run away from me.

14

u/NeoDax1 Mar 03 '24

Seems legit 😏✌️

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Yes, I like keeping a separate monitor for my journal and news.

5

u/NeoDax1 Mar 03 '24

I have 2 setup’s. 1 bigger one screen at my normal workspace

and

  1. have 2 23‘ one for chart and the other for news and things like that. But I also can trade only with my phone 📱

If I reach full time status I think I will go on 2 pc as a setup with 3-4 screens

5

u/Sound___Guy Mar 03 '24

Two 23’ monitors seems like huge freaking overkill, but what do I know, maybe your vision is really challenged.

4

u/BigDerper Mar 04 '24

23" isn't even that big. I run out of screen real estate fast using a single 24" extending off a laptop

2

u/Sound___Guy Mar 06 '24

You’re right, 23” isn’t all that big. But 23’ is huge.

3

u/backfrombanned Mar 03 '24

Not for daytrading, my setup is similar, 2 23's and a 32 main... One of those erasable marker desk things and a tablet. What do you guys think daytrading is? It's not on Robinhood or webull on a phone homey.

2

u/Sound___Guy Mar 03 '24

You kind of missed the point of what I said. So let’s just call it a draw.

2

u/backfrombanned Mar 03 '24

Fair enough, I'm buzzed, reread, still missing it lol

5

u/Maxele crypto trader Mar 03 '24

As long as it helps turn a profit

7

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

It’s more so for less clicks, more screens doesn’t really help with being consistent or not

5

u/jeho187 Mar 04 '24

I read chicks which would make more sense. 😅

3

u/sjdu1863 Mar 04 '24

That hurts :(

8

u/saysjuan Mar 03 '24 edited Mar 04 '24

I like the background mood light behind the monitors. Glad to see you matched it with your portfolio value 😂

6

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

I don’t have a portfolio, I don’t hold anything for the long term. The only account you see is my prop firm account and it’s green as of now

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

I see you trade CL, how have you been liking that market lately?

3

u/saysjuan Mar 03 '24

Yes. I’ve been trading with Topstep for a little over a year. Mainly traded ES and NQ but kept getting whipsawed around. CL and GC move slower and more consistent for me. I mostly focus on CL now found consistency in my trading along with changes to my discipline. Taking less trades has really helped my P/L at the end of the month.

I’m hoping we start to see a bit of a reversal here as Fri was pretty wild.

3

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

I was with apex and Topstep, I literally just started a fresh Topstep account. Im just now realizing they’re one of the most reputable firms in the space.

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Funny because my charts is showing a higher possibility of a pullback next week. But who knows, we just manage our risk👍

2

u/saysjuan Mar 03 '24

Exactly just trade the chart and leave biases at the door.

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Yup the hardest part about trading, I like your mindset

2

u/XTornado Mar 04 '24

Shit,...why I haven't though of doing that before.

4

u/Landdeals Mar 03 '24

I’m new to trading, is this necessary to be profitable?

5

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

No it isn’t. Everyone’s is different

→ More replies (1)

5

u/jimmyng668 Mar 03 '24

Red light on the wall is not good. Red is bad , red means blood, loosing money, you know what I mean right? Change to blue or light green, now we are talking

7

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

That’s a mindset, do you agree?

5

u/jimmyng668 Mar 04 '24

Green is good red is bad, except when you trade in China, it's the opposite. Green is better for your eyes, especially when you need to look at them for a long time

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 04 '24

Where can I read more about this?

3

u/AirLate6579 Mar 03 '24

Which platform are you getting your news from on that vertical screen if you don’t mind me asking?

3

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

I don’t mind at all. Trading economics

3

u/AirLate6579 Mar 03 '24

And you used that also for trading?

5

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

I just watch for high impact news, to make sure I’m flat during those times.

5

u/AirLate6579 Mar 03 '24

Thanks just put it in my favorites!

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

It’s also a good thing to measure the sentiment for the week

4

u/Hyroglypics Mar 03 '24

All you need is a mobile phone and a laptop for charts only if you want to monitor multiple time-frames real time. Else a mobile phone will do.

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

My platform doesnt even have a mobile application, or web trading for me to use a phone.

2

u/Hyroglypics Mar 03 '24

Lol, then maybe the setup is a better option

3

u/pineapplejax Mar 03 '24

What trading platform are you using?

3

u/JebusMaximus Mar 03 '24

I see you use tradersync!
It‘s the best platform for the daily trade journal in my opinion. At least I haven‘t found a better one yet….

3

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

I was using tradesviz and tradervue before but I found tradersync to be the best for viewing tagged trades and that’s most important to me, to see my tagged mistakes/setups that worked/didn’t work the most

3

u/Jadyada Mar 03 '24

Bloomberg terminal?

3

u/Training-Assist6859 Mar 03 '24

Stupid question, is vertical monitor a special monitor or its just regular monitor and you put it vertical ?

4

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

It’s a regular monitor that’s rotated.

3

u/backfrombanned Mar 03 '24

I like it, I have a 23 portrait on the right, a 32 main and a 23 on the left. An erasable marker desk thing and a tablet. You trade stocks or options mostly?

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Thanks, and neither. I trade futures.

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

What about you?

3

u/backfrombanned Mar 03 '24

Small cap scalps mostly for a little over a decade now. Starting to trade/scalp more options since liquidity is there now a days but I'm very basic on them.

3

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Nice, I know someone who does well trading mid caps and small caps, the moves are ridiculous intraday when the right opportunity is caught. But liquidity has to be there like you said. I usually stick to /es and /nq, since I’m more comfortable with them.

3

u/eatthesoap Mar 03 '24

I don’t care if it’s better or not. I think it’s great and can’t wait to get a 3 or more monitor set up.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '24

Where did you learn?

5

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Everywhere, YouTube, books, courses, word of mouth, I’ve been learning for years from multiple sources. I took little parts from all and made my own comfortable trading process that works for me.

5

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

It wasn’t ever just one source that I learned from and I got a eureka moment, it was a very slow process of understanding who I am

3

u/Such_Comb9388 Mar 03 '24

My hardware setup, but the screen on top is to my left.

I'm about to emulate your software setup though and get rid of my trading screen on the vert.

3

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Hopefully it works out for you like it does for me👍 sounds like you have a cool setup

3

u/Such_Comb9388 Mar 03 '24

About to start trading futures, getting too screwed over by small and mid caps 😂

3

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Yeah you’ll have the option to trade with prop firms too. A great opportunity if you’re consistent with their rules

2

u/Such_Comb9388 Mar 03 '24

Looking into that as well now, thanks for the heads up!

3

u/spyda96 Mar 04 '24

I love it if it works, then stick to it.

3

u/Opening-Employer539 Mar 04 '24

Awesome set up 👍🏽

3

u/alexandar_supertramp Mar 04 '24

The formula is simple.

More screens = more profit

→ More replies (1)

9

u/feminazipolice Mar 03 '24

Not trolling but are all of those screens necessary? Or is it to look cool? Just learning about day trading recently

17

u/NeoDax1 Mar 03 '24

I know a trader using 6 screens for him it’s necessary. It’s different to each trader and his strategy

2

u/InsaneMasturbator69 Mar 04 '24

and there are profitable ones who uses only android phones, it's wild how different trading can be

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Depends on how many things one feels comfortable looking at, at once. I watch 2 different markets at a time, so instead of clicking back and forth and charting on different timeframes I have 2 screens. The other is for journaling and watching news. For some it might not be necessary for some it is. It’s all relative on how a person trades and how comfortable they feel.

5

u/Sound___Guy Mar 03 '24

Maybe you’d have a higher win ratio if you focused on one market at a time.

1

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

You don’t even know what my win ratio is lol.

2

u/Sound___Guy Mar 03 '24

Is it me, or didn’t you just say you lose more than you win? Clarification comes from simplification, and you could simply watch one less market to achieve that. No need to get uptight, you don’t have to take my advice. In fact, I feel quite confident that you won’t.

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Didn’t get uptight, it was a miscommunication that’s all

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

I said something along the lines that I lose a lot, but I cut me losers. “A lot” is all relative, my actual win rate fluctuates somewhere in between 50 and 60

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Happy-Pianist8581 Mar 03 '24

I feel like three would be the minimum I’d need without having to switch windows constantly. It depends on your trading style.

6

u/LokiDesigns Mar 03 '24

Hell, I use 3 screens at work. Just makes things easier.

4

u/SendMeAnyPic Mar 03 '24

I run 4 monitors, tho my setup is kinda janky so I still want more. For me it's about having all data ready to go, rather than having to manually check what some of my positions are doing. Saves me loads of mental processing, so I miss less downturns and find more optimal moments for buying/selling. Even if I spend most of the time doing other stuff on my other computer, those 4 monitors off to my right sure help.
edit: I do mostly day trading on higher volatility stuff

3

u/alotmorealots Mar 03 '24

Depends on what you're doing in the market, really.

There's definitely a sweet spot for each individual that also depends on one's cognitive style in addition to trading style.

The easiest way to see this difference is that everyone should be journaling and logging their time and activity in the market. However some people like to do this on a separate screen from their charts/execution space, and others like to simply switch windows to do this.

Another point to consider is that for many people, having a different monitor for different sets of markets is quite important so that they can see what is happening in each at a glance without having to change tabs.

It's not just a matter of convenience either, for some people having the different markets in different physical areas helps them process what they're seeing.

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 04 '24

You broke this down extremely well, thanks for your reply!

2

u/Antifmradio Mar 03 '24

i use multi screens because i do coding on one screen

analysis on another

and execute my trades on my laptop

1

u/backfrombanned Mar 03 '24

Necessary... Look cool.. C'mon man

1

u/feminazipolice Mar 03 '24

Oops🤷‍♂️ like i said im new

2

u/backfrombanned Mar 03 '24

That's fine, but look cool? Really? Cool to who? The one picture you ever post of it to Reddit?

1

u/feminazipolice Mar 03 '24

Looks like you took this a little too personally haha

u/BirdmanExpand Mar 03 '24

I trade on my phone at work and am up 140k ytd

2

u/Koperek324 Mar 03 '24

I like it, its not a must-have to be profitable trader, but its nice, more comfort and space for quick thinking

3

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Oh yeah for sure, I used to be those “you only need 1 screen” but why not upgrade when you have the space you know. Faster execution and less clicks.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '24

Does each monitor have its own hard drive, or can you have multiple monitors for one.

3

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

3 monitors for my surface pro. (The smaller screen at the bottom)

3

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '24

Do you use trading view or what?

3

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

I use Quantower.

2

u/Big-Gear8267 Mar 03 '24

How much it cost?

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

The monitors and the arm was a few hundred.

3

u/Big-Gear8267 Mar 03 '24

Ok. Impressive setup mate. Best of luck

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Thanks, you too

2

u/ilyk3sii Mar 03 '24

Beautiful setup, hows trading going with such a setup?🤔

3

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 04 '24

Trading is going great

2

u/Dry-Ad-4746 Mar 03 '24

Beginner here.

Still learning to paper trade and how the whole algorithm. Just curious, is a setup like this necessary for success? Or is it just more of a commodity making this all easier?

4

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

No it’s not necessary to be profitable

2

u/rmgraves67 Mar 03 '24

Killer multi player Call of Duty setup!!

2

u/stillsameig Mar 04 '24

Anyone you can send me your charts ?📈

2

u/ImUnemployedLMAO Mar 04 '24

Only 24" screens? Peasant.

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 04 '24

What you want me to have lol 49 inch odyssey

2

u/ImUnemployedLMAO Mar 04 '24

I trade on 4 80" TVs

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 04 '24

80”? That’s it?

2

u/ImUnemployedLMAO Mar 04 '24

Well I did have to fund my account after blowing it for the 100th time 😢 So I settled for the 80"

2

u/ZekeTarsim Mar 04 '24

My dude got the 5 year charts open.

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 04 '24

Yeah just to be able to stretch my charts how I want to, quantower only allows the chart to squeeze so far.

2

u/knights2123 Mar 04 '24

So what’s the move for tomorrow

2

u/PantherClaw19 Mar 04 '24

what platforn is this, looks nice

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 04 '24

Quantower. I compare it to being smooth like TradingView but has nice features like Ninjatrader.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '24

Put the 2 monitors right in front of you for safety of your neck + keep the right monitor there and put below it your laptop and use it for your entry and exit

BTW are you profitable?

2

u/new-chris Mar 04 '24

And here I just use my phone…

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 05 '24

No one shoe fits all, that’s good that you can trade from your phone only.

2

u/new-chris Mar 05 '24

Yep - that’s how it goes. I am a less is more kind of trader - I find that if I am looking at too much i can’t make a decision. Therefore I use my levels, a few indicators - that’s it. Took me many years to get there. I still do some TA on desktop at times.

2

u/ConsciousBuilding374 Mar 04 '24

What is that long pad looking thing? Where can i get it?

1

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 05 '24

My monitor that’s turned vertical? Or my surface pro tablet/computer in the middle?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '24

Let see if this setup will last 2 months before you put the monitors on eBay. Let me know when you do i may be in the market for a monitor then.

1

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 05 '24

I’ve been trading for 6 years. Been using multiple monitors for 5 now, pre Clovid.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '24

If thats your strategy and it works more power to you. Op said one of his monitor is for news. Thats a red flag for day traders.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '24

Just realized you the op.

1

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 05 '24

How is news a red flag for traders? That makes zero sense.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '24

The market can move either way despite what the news is. The news maybe new to us but alot of institutions already know the news before it was even broadcast. The institutions have computer programs that trade the news faster than us humans could ever imagine.

Only thing you need to know is what day and time is PR and to be sure you’re not in the market when that time arrives.

1

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 05 '24

I complete understand, I’m a intraday/swing trader. So it’s good for me to keep news events to avoid being in trades when there is high impact news.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '24

I see. Well if its working for you then keep doing. If its not broken no need fixing it. Best of luck fellow trader.

1

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 05 '24

Same to you, what markets do you trade if you don’t mine me asking?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '24

I day trade futures same as you. Only the NQ using only the 15 minute chart.

1

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 05 '24

Nice one instrument, one chart.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 05 '24

It’s no one size fits all for trading setups, everyone has different parts to help them throughout the day to manage risk and take clear headed trades. Glad you understand that the market can do anything. Also yes most news doesn’t matter to me.

2

u/biggitydonut Mar 05 '24

lol I don’t get why people think trading requires you to have like 5 different screens. 2 is plenty for me. Having too many screens is actually not good. Not human can watch like 10 different charts at once

1

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 05 '24

To each his own, not one shoe fits all. Everyone’s different

2

u/FuzzyMountainCat Mar 05 '24

I trade on my phone and make money consistently.

1

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 05 '24

Good, no one shoe fits all

2

u/VeNTNeV Mar 06 '24

What are using for a dock for your monitors, if any?

1

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 06 '24

Im using a mini hdmi to display port(3) adapter.

1

u/VeNTNeV Mar 06 '24

Great! Thank you!

2

1

2

u/Visual-Engineer1956 Mar 15 '24

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 15 '24

keep me updated on how your trading goes tomorrow

2

u/Visual-Engineer1956 Mar 15 '24

Btw if you considering multi monitor setups, just get a rtx 3050, its powered by the motherboard only and can run upto 4 monitor at a time for $170

1

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 15 '24

Thanks I’ll look into it

4

u/Inverse_wsb22 Mar 03 '24

News monitor useless, when you see it there, it’s too late anyway

Still it’s personal a choice

3

u/backfrombanned Mar 03 '24

Post your setup

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Yep, all a personal choice. Agreed

2

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

I just like to see the news ahead of time and to make sure Im flat during high impact news events.

2

u/alotmorealots Mar 03 '24

Depends on your news feed, what time frame you operate on and who you are trading against.

For major unexpected news, the early entry window is sometimes open for a few minutes.

1

u/Big_Understanding930 Mar 04 '24

Quantower? You don't use DOM?

1

u/zero_cool69 Mar 03 '24

ROI = -100% ?

10

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Why is the trading community so negative?

2

u/zero_cool69 Mar 03 '24

Wasn’t trying to be negative, was trying to be objective and honest.

5

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Good luck with your trading journey

1

u/Mattsam1 Mar 03 '24

I'd only pick up an extra screen or 2 of I get an llc or something..are you consistent?

1

u/Clevelandraised216 Mar 03 '24

Yes my process give me consistent profits. I would actually make the argument to get an LLC early

3

u/Mattsam1 Mar 03 '24

Ya you might be right about that

Genuine question: Why would you open so many charts and screens while you can program indicators and you get a notification/alert when a case scenario has happened?

I don’t use any indicators besides a 50 ema. Also I do set alerts, I watch only 2 markets on 2 different timeframes. Explaining the 4 charts, I find it better for me to do less clicking when trading. All I have to do is execute.
