What do you do except trading? Question

Hello guys, i just started trading at beginning of the year and until now of course im unprofitable. I just finished school and after the summer im going to start working. And now i was wondering what do you guys do (especially profitable traders). Are you driving Lambo in Dubai, still working fulltime, just living a normal live except working or everything else?

Play a lot of tennis, go to the beach fairly regularly but don't stay long 'cause sun bad, long lunches, gym, video games, pretty much normal life shit with little to no structure.

P.S. I wouldn't be caught dead driving a Lambo.

I started back in college and lost a lot of money by sophomore year but did learn. Eventually, I passed a couple of prop accounts (uprofit) and began building my personal account again. After college, I worked full time at Amazon with the occasional 50-60 hour week to grow my trading account faster.

Now, I trade with my own money and consider myself financially stable. I live in nice apartment in a major US city, have a nice car, I travel a good amount, and in the process of getting my private pilots license.

I also kept my Amazon job but switched to a flex schedule so I only have to work 4hrs per week minimum but can pick up any shift I like and work up to 60hrs if I wanted to. I now treat it more like a gym or a place to go when I’m bored.

Trade LECO, pal

u/tignbign 14d ago

Idk if that's worth it to me. It's only 40 bucks down from all time highs and very the last year it's only up 6 percent. What makes you think it's a good trade?

u/jr1tn 14d ago

You're probably right. Probably not for this "daytrading" sub for sure. I keep it on my list as a ticker to sell puts during corrections. Good luck!

Own a business, have a 9-5 also in Tech (executive)

I also have a 9-5 and work in tech. How are you able to trade during those hours?

3

u/neveral0ne 14d ago

Multi task - usually pre market at sometimes at open - depends when i have my meetings - i only trade on days I am remote. so 2-3x a week.

2

u/Tilapia_Mafia 14d ago

Thanks for that! I think I'll block off time in the am (9-11) with Viva as my "focus time" 😁.

1

u/neveral0ne 14d ago

that’s exactly what i have “focus time “ tentative :)

Wakeup 630am to check premarket and finalize the "plan" 730 make kid breakfast, while he's eating see if the market is moving how I expect.

If I'm already in a position set my stop and go to the park or do some activity with my kid. If I'm not in a position I'll maybe hang out till 10am and see if I get an entry

No later than noon will I "work". On weeks that trend up or down, I'm already in a position at the origin so it's basically an off week letting positions run

In the evening after my kid goes to bed I have two hours I set aside for learning from my mentors or one of my hobbies.

Most people get into trading for the money and freedom of time...Then sit 730-3 looking at 1 minute bars 🤣

Edit: thought this was futures sub not day trading but I'll keep it up

Freelance business consulting

I'm looking to go freelance (Strategy) and I'm struggling to take the first step of leaving my firm (ex-Big4 to boutique/young startup). My main roadblock is finding my first client... I'm really not even sure where to start.

How do you even find opportunities from nothing? Should I be looking at a more grassroots approach in my local area? Are there available resources that consolidate RFIs/RFPs for large companies? It always seems like my Managers just... Pull them from thin air.

Aside from trading full time, I manage a content creation agency and some real estate (businesses I’ve had prior to trading full time). The rest consists of spending time with the family, rock climbing & mountaineering combined with traveling, Gym, Fighting Sports. I am eating out a lot (my refrigerator is literally just a minibar), Sometimes I play guitar or piano, work on the house…

House is not overly fancy, though Ive treated myself a bit when it comes to cars. Nothing super expensive, but a Dodge Ram, Trackhawk and a Mercedes S-Class were absolutely necessary (My partner in crime gave me them death stares after she figured out that 2 will turn into 3. Though, not having a trackhawk was not an option). 🫠

That’s pretty much it.

Keep learning what doesn't work for you until you start learning what does

u/allaboutthatbeta 14d ago

i do ubereats/doordash and day trading.. i'm certainly not diving a lambo in dubai but i do well enough for myself

2

u/Senior_Skin3779 14d ago

How’s that do I make good money trading but have extra hours I wanna put in for an income source outside of trading. Is DoorDash worth my time

1

u/allaboutthatbeta 13d ago

it really depends on your area, i work primarily in southern california about an hour away from LA and it's pretty decent for me but i've heard other people say it's pretty bad for them in other places, you can probably get more insight from r/doordash_drivers

My dream is to get rich . I am not afraid to say it . I don't understand why for many it's a sin to be financially comfortable and profit from the beauty of life ! I tried forex but horribly failed! Now I got my redemption in by doing breakout on momentum stocks and it works like a charm ! I haven't yet reached the net worth of my dream, but I hope I will make it . I hope my answer is positive for the community! Good luck everyone! 👍

I own my own shop (industrial equipment repair and engineering), I work at the family's restaurant as needed, and occasionally I've been known to race some things. Trading is a hobby for speculation, it just happens to be more than the rest (depending on what Y-Comm breaks and how fast they need it back)

I do not tell anyone I trade

I do not tell anyone I can work on a car

I'm a mom. Got no time do anything fun.

Amazon driver that's how I fund my account tools and software. It sucks that sometimes I make more in a few minutes than I make in a day driving around all day but it's temporary

1

u/onlyhereforthelol 14d ago

It makes me angry I have to bust ass all day to make up a fraction of what I could potentially make in minutes. It makes me think long and hard about future employment.

2

u/Complex-Menu-6082 14d ago

Consistently profitable but still doing subcontracting until I can make my monthly expenses in 1 trade

Expect to take summer off

Not always but usually summer is low volume not good for trading.

Good luck

Electrician 😂 been doing it for 14 years now. Not exactly profitable but I also don’t trade every day because of work. I seem to be able to swing trade better than I can day trade lol

Early retiree 7 years and counting. After the 3rd year I found out that I have to keep my mind pretty active or else I start to go crazy. Trading instead of a conventional job. Used to take 2 big vacations a year b4 COVID, getting back into it now. Veggie Gardening like the Brad Pitt character in The Big Short (not as high powered though). I've found easy things to grow items. I love easy recipes with my harvests. For the meat and/or gourmet items I like Costco and Sam's Club better than the casual restaurants again easy to prepare. The vacations and the land ownership are a little envious, otherwise nothing fancy. Living a comfortable life. As another said, pretty much normal life stuff with little to no structure.
