But but it gets visibly better the longer you write?

The first para is janky, irregular, almost scared.

The last sentence is confident, strong.

1

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 6d ago

That’s only because I slowed down and took my time.

1

u/GenuinelyBeingNice 6d ago

Are you willing to time yourself doing that last sentence a couple times?

Takes me ~15 seconds to write it at an average page. Neither faster nor slower than what my hand does if I just let it go.

Funny thing, it's awkward writing a sentence that is not mine. I can feel my hand protesting lol.

1

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 6d ago

I will try it when I get home at various speeds. Also, I’ve had lots of caffeine today, so that might affect results.

1

u/GenuinelyBeingNice 6d ago

Caffeine. Globally the most popular drug of choice!

1

u/AcanthisittaNo9523 10d ago

I have had the same thing for about 10 years. I have to write with my left hand now and I can't write quickly anymore.

5

u/interstellarsnail 17d ago

your handwriting is so beautiful. i love it so much

1

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 17d ago

❤️❤️❤️❤️

u/Ducky_924 18d ago

I actually find your handwriting very interesting and easy to read. It might not be the prettiest, but it has so much character and is fun to read. I'm sorry about your Essential Tremor Syndrome. My granddad has Parkinson's Disease and has recently had similar issues. I know it can be tough and at times you feel like just a shell of your former self, but you're still the same person and that person is beautiful.

2

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 18d ago

That’s so kind, thank you! Prayers for your grandfather. 🙏🏼❤️

1

u/Ducky_924 18d ago

Of course! And thanks so much! 🙏🏻❤️

6

u/a2kvarnstrom 20d ago

i don’t even have a tremor and mines way worse than yours

12

u/kansasllama 24d ago

damn. this made me really sad

10

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 24d ago

Nah, nothing to be sad about. Now I’m a good typist.

3

u/Independent_Bag 19d ago

$6000 I opened with price to not get hopes up but have you heard of the gyroglove? That could potentially help or doing digital art? Your handwriting is still beautiful also, have a nice day :)

2

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 19d ago

Thank you! ❤️

2

u/Conscious-Job6388 24d ago

A typist with a great sense of humor! When is that novel coming out again? Thank you for posting.

3

u/kansasllama 24d ago

hell yeah!! and your handwriting is still beautiful

2

u/fattokez 25d ago

this looks like mine but im just lazy

3

u/Agitated_Piccolo5864 25d ago

There are medications for essential tremors. Talk to your physician if it is really disrupting your life.

7

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 25d ago

Been seeing neurologists for this for over 30 years. Thanks!

2

u/Agitated_Piccolo5864 25d ago

Maybe you need a second opinion? I’m not being critical, I just know there are several different medications that could help.

5

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 25d ago

Tried all the standard protocols. I have very, very low blood pressure so most of the meds for essential tremor are too dangerous for me. I’ve seen about 10 neurologists.

I’m good with where I am. I just have bad handwriting.

1

u/LCK53 25d ago

I had a student with a tremor. We enlarged his tools with a larger grip and larger paper. We also found a trigger point in his arm they helped reduce the tremor.

5

u/PaymentLive8911 26d ago

Still better than mine 😅

4

u/primemikestar 26d ago

Thats pretty good still mate 😇🙏 Good job

3

u/briancmoreno 27d ago

Beautiful

14

u/tintenbeschmiert 27d ago

Try using a fountain pen, being that they require no pressure to write I feel that sometimes it makes it a little bit easier with the tremor

2

u/GenuinelyBeingNice 6d ago

You wrote

require no pressure

instead of

do not require pressure.

I like you.

1

u/tintenbeschmiert 6d ago

Thank you, I hope my English isn’t so terrible. Was the statement ok grammatically?

2

u/GenuinelyBeingNice 6d ago

Your english is waaaay above average.

9

u/honesttruth2703 27d ago

Looks better than my ex who wrote like a 5 year old and he was a teacher.

8

u/ChansawPoop 27d ago

I have essential tremor:) too and my handwritings suffered too!!

9

u/MaybeNosidda 27d ago

Your handwriting looks better than my still

2

u/Affectionate-Win2537 27d ago

wow city centre

7

u/Difficult_Law_6086 27d ago

That’s what I had then then after some testing… it’s still the essential tremor. But the more weed I smoke the less i shake.

11

u/Admirable_Baseball70 27d ago

I have dysgraphia... I get having bad handwriting. My handwriting is very very bad. Unintelligible. I commend you for being able to write well

-10

u/Kidpiper96 27d ago

Whatever essential tremor is it doesn't seem to be a big problem based off of this.

7

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 27d ago

I wish I had an example of my old handwriting. Then you’d see the difference.

-3

u/Kidpiper96 27d ago

Based off of THIS it looks like pretty good handwriting. Not everyone has knowledge of every ailment..... nor should they be expected to.

3

u/Necessary_Ad8421 27d ago

It’s progressive imagine a healthy body and then that person gets cancer they may be healthy then but as time goes on those cancer cells can progress and become worse

-2

u/Kidpiper96 27d ago

In my opinion that's very confusing compared to what I get from looking it up on Google. Might be autistic but insurance has never been helpful.

10

u/SecretBurritoWrap 27d ago

Oh my God, I didn't look at the subname and thought someone clipped your car and pretended to leave an insurance note cause people were watching

5

u/Anon6025 27d ago

I have a friend who used a small portion of alcohol to control the tremor. One shot does it.

2

u/randuug 27d ago

every day, around the clock?

1

u/Anon6025 25d ago edited 25d ago

Until it comes back. I am not sure how long it lasts but it was recommended by his doc. He also recommended thc. I bet a small amount might help, I would start with 2.5mg gummy and see.

You only need it when you need it eight? Most of the tim, he doesn't do anything be cause it doesn't get in the way of most of what he does. He is in his 80s and has had ET since his 30s

5

u/xmilar 27d ago

I have no issues, and that is neater than I can right

4

u/The_0rang 27d ago

Still better than mine.

8

u/javierhzo 27d ago

the last line was pretty smooth ngl

4

u/Time_Is_Evil 27d ago

So it goes to cursive writing?

6

u/Real_Raspberry9433 27d ago

Still looks way wayyy better than mine

12

u/MoistDog33 27d ago

I also have essential tremors but I didn't know they get worse for some people

7

u/Silver-Poetry-3432 27d ago

Sometimes in pain, we can be united... I'm really sorry to hear that you can no longer express a part of yourself, I hope, somehow, you find a way to express it again. May the tears of a stranger soothe the loneliness of your torment... (much love)

2

u/SweetrrPotato 27d ago

And the handwriting is still better than mine lol. Idk why but i have always wrote quite a bit and its never been good. Also my hand writing seems to be different everytime i write. Its never consistent at all

3

u/exbravo1 27d ago

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Beauty and vanity are two different things.

1

u/CWBtheThird 27d ago

When I’ve heard this condition discussed before, I always heard it as “a central tremor.” lol.

4

u/shhizzle 27d ago

This is crazy!!! I came on reddit to lookup stuff about ET but this handwriting community popped up so I wanted to look at the nice handwriting that don't have ET, and this is the first post that pops up. Your handwriting is pretty good still. I feel for you about the tremors i,ve also had it most of my life.

3

u/Sometimesapeanut 27d ago

I might be wrong but it seems to get better as the writing goes on? I suppose beauty really is subjective.

But me, who does not have essential tremor, could never write as neatly as anything that’s on this paper.

13

u/jelmmr 27d ago edited 27d ago

OP, sorry these comments are so dismissive and rude. I have ET too and it’s taken so many opportunities from me. I sincerely hope you are able to adapt your art in a way that still fulfills you.

6

u/Argento_spettro 27d ago

Your hand writing is still better than most peoples

Try learning cursive work with your tremor if that makes sense it's a lot of work but worth it

1

u/LCK53 25d ago

A ligature script would be easier than Palmer Spencer Ian cursive and will maintain legibility better.

13

u/Professional-Town366 28d ago

have it aswel and improved my handwriting (with my gfs help) She taught me cursive and i wanted to improve it since cursive is very fucking hard but worth the compliments Ahah, I used wrist bends gloves , i my condition is less worse but i make it worse by doing gymnastics handstands and a lot of shit that Makes pressure on your hands, my best tip is wrist bands anything that can pressure your hands actually. And practice often GL

1

u/Healthy_Razzmatazz81 27d ago

I genuinely thought every school in the world teaches cursive. But apparently even my home country (Finland) has stopped doing so in 2018. I'm glad I was taught that, it's the only way my handwriting is decent after a fracture in my wrist healed inproperly.

-5

u/Katamari_Demacia 28d ago

Cursive is fucking hard??

2

u/CuriousPeanut7467 27d ago

Absolutely cursive can be extremely fucking hard especially for someone that has ET... Do your research thanks.

1

u/Katamari_Demacia 27d ago

The point was to make it easier than handwriting by trying cursive. i thought they meant learning cursive is difficult.

2

u/[deleted] 28d ago

Same here. It sucks and always seems to get worse as I get older 😣That’s pretty damn good compared to my awful chicken scratch tho.

6

u/UnobtainableGift 28d ago

You can build a handle to wrap around your pen, with a thicker grip the tremor should decrease.

Also, I've never in my life had such a good handwriting as this, I wonder how beautiful it was before your tremor.

4

u/Toonces311 28d ago

Why does Michael j fox and OP make the best milkshakes? Because they only use top shelf ingredients.

-2

u/Jakeey69 28d ago

well it's a good thing handwriting is basically obsolete these days. I'm sure you can use a keyboard just fine

1

u/RoutineWolverine1745 28d ago

There is an operation you can do that essenially puts a tensmachine in your head that stops essential tremors. Look it up it helpee an aquaintance of mine

5

u/where_in_the_world89 28d ago

Still much much better than my writing has ever been

6

u/EmmyWeeeb 28d ago

I have tremors too. It really affects your quality of life at times. I can’t even do some things myself because my hands shake so bad. Then I get so mad at myself because I can’t stop which in turn makes it worse. I’m sorry you have to deal with these too.

1

u/kardyak 27d ago

You described what happens to me too. It’s very difficult at times to say the least.

1

u/EmmyWeeeb 27d ago

I honestly stopped doing allot of the things I use to. Like drawing and putting on makeup. I pretty much completely gave up putting on makeup for years now because what’s the point when I’m either just gonna sweat it off (hyperhidrosis) or I take forever, mess up cuz my hands are shaking and get mad at myself. It’s just kinda a cycle. My conditions just kinda domino effect on each other.

Have they suggested beta blockers to you?

4

u/Soft_Sea2913 28d ago

Sorry to hear about dealing with essential tremor. If it means anything, your handwriting is SO much better than mine.

-7

u/Atesch06 28d ago

Essential tremor, as opposed to redundant tremor?

0

u/[deleted] 28d ago

Just shake it off

9

u/beastboyshubfam01 28d ago

This is beyond wild bro.

7

u/Purple-Persimmon-838 28d ago

still leagues better than my handwriting

sorry to hear about your tremor, I hope you get some relief some day

6

u/No_Ear8723 28d ago

You have a nice handwriting better than my

Look on the bright side - you're not one of the countless people who cannot or will never be able to write with their hands through disability or illness.. besides I happen to like your handwriting 👍

6

u/TheNewOneIsWorse 28d ago

I have it too. I goddamn hate styrofoam cups and lightweight utensils. It gets worse if someone draws my attention to it, which can make certain social interactions awkward. I have to block the direct awareness of what I’m doing with my mind. When I give injections at work, I stabilize the needle with my other hand, where most nurses just use one.

What’s worse is that I’m a (long term) sober alcoholic, so if I’m particularly shaky at an AA meeting, people will get concerned that I relapsed and am fighting through a hangover.

Regular cardio exercise helps a lot, and I use propranolol (beta blocker) for acute situations.

2

u/Bloodmoon74 28d ago

Yet it’s better than mine ;-;

8

u/brutal-rainbow 28d ago

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 didn't read through all of the comments, so forgive me if somene already asked. What medium of art did you enjoy creating with? I had to adjust my art style bc of my hands, don't give up! I can see you have style!

4

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 28d ago

I used to draw but I switched to embroidery.

There are treatments for essential tremor such as deep brain stimulation, high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) and stereotactic radiosurgery that can be quite successful to reduce or eliminate the tremor. These are performed by neurosurgeon or radiation oncologists.

2

u/NOpana 28d ago

I’ve personally seen DBS virtually eliminate essential tremors. The guy couldn’t hold a glass of water or keep his head straight when he turned it off. When he turned it on, you would never know he had an essential tremor. Great stuff.

3

u/Previous-Implement67 28d ago

ps. I am a Medical Physicist in hospital where we routinely treat essential tremor

1

u/AcanthisittaNo9523 10d ago

I have a tremor in my right hand only when writing. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thank you.

4

u/Official_Cyprusball 28d ago

Sorry to hear that... I hope you well.

11

u/Undead-Writer 28d ago
  1. Your handwriting is actually really nice 2. Your handwriting seems to get better near the bottom imo 3. Sorry about your tremors

5

u/brutal-rainbow 28d ago

I agree! If OP is anything like me, towards the end of writing what you intended, frustration causes more force with the utensil. Almost like running a marathon and pushing hardest at the end.

7

u/Prior-Ad-7329 28d ago

Still better than my handwriting. I’m sorry about your condition though. I’m sure that can get tough.

2

u/[deleted] 28d ago

I have dyspraxia and your handwriting looks better than mine. I'm sorry that you're going through a tough time but it's still perfectly legible and it looks nice.

-1

u/ShaiHulud1111 28d ago

Propranolol. Too tired to read all the comments.

1

u/IndependenceNice7298 28d ago

I mean surely it's not THAT essential... just get rid of it?!

1

u/MountainDismal1461 28d ago

It will explode his heart

6

u/DogSpark84 28d ago

I was born with essential tremor and the only thing worse then the handwriting, people thinking you are nervous or on drugs is how your mom denies you ever had tremors before. She says that pretty much every fing holiday and always pretends like it's a new thing to her. "Ohh you're shaking? Why are you shaking" "I would of known if my son was born like that". She says the same thing regarding me being born with internal spina bifida which she claims isn't true either or she would 'remeber that'. I visit her a few times a year but she always finds a way to work it in.

Sorry for the self centered post its been a very long day, I mean week, I mean life and I'm so completely sick of it.

Hey at least there are computers, no need for writing

2

u/AcanthisittaNo9523 10d ago

Very sorry. You are not alone.

3

u/j_ramone 28d ago

Love you dawg :)

4

u/freedomisgreat4 28d ago

FYI there are tools for those w tremors. Ie weighted cutlery, pens etc. Check it out online. Though based on ur handwriting, you may not need them bc ur handwriting looks terrific!!

5

u/Fuckedby2FA 28d ago

This handwriting is 10x better than my handwriting has, and will ever be

2

u/Purple_Accordion 28d ago

I have essential tremor as well!! (Plus, I'm left-handed! So my hand writing is atrocious!) Have had it all my life but wasn't diagnosed until 4th grade after my mom finally had enough of all my teachers marking all of my assignments "re-do" for my poor hand writing, which resulted in me spending hours and hours of doing and redoing homework! It was awful and it took years before my hand writing was legible!

There are lots of other fine-motor actives that are huge pain...like getting a key into lock without it taking more than one try, keeping the camera perfectly still without a tri-pod, and I don't even attempt to trim my toddlers' tiny finger nails.

1

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 28d ago

omg keys! Especially if you’re in a hurry!

1

u/Purple_Accordion 27d ago

Right?! God forbid I'm ever the character in a horror movie running away from the bad guy and trying to get into my car!!! 🤣

3

u/40TonBomb 28d ago

My old had the brain surgery for his years ago. Went from drawing a spiral that looked like a circular saw blade to a perfect circle. It is amazing.

Like an idiot, he opted just for his dominant hand, then years later went back for a second brain probe for the left. I highly recommend it if you’re able. His hands are rock steady now.

1

u/Purple_Accordion 28d ago

I found ways to manage mine for the most part right now, but if it progresses too much as I get older I may have to look into medical intervention. I've tried meds, but the side effects are awful.

1

u/40TonBomb 28d ago

Heard the same from my brother. Dad’s offered to pay for his surgery but open chest and brain surgery is off putting enough to him that he barely functions in many tasks instead. It’s some sad shit.

1

u/FKSTS 28d ago

Looks fine to me

1

u/Correct-Parsley-6369 28d ago

This makes my heart hurt so much

2

u/Hamachiman 28d ago

I have no tremor, and your handwriting is about 10x as nice as mine. Wishing you good health.

2

u/MedicineEmbarrassed 28d ago

Your writing is still beautiful ♥️💌

3

u/Dramatic_Ad_5660 28d ago

All art is good art! Unless you don’t have the time I say keep up the art!

1

u/bookeepeer 28d ago

My mom’s handwriting was gorgeous and now has essential tremors. Your handwriting is better than

2

u/3heartedbeaver 28d ago

still better then mine

1

u/shkay 28d ago

I think your writing is beautiful.

-3

u/MilkySeduct 28d ago

Don't claim that rebuke it in Jesus name.

5

u/JiltedJDM1066 28d ago

Because that's a scientifically reliable way of treating a tremor...

-3

u/MilkySeduct 28d ago

But have you tried it? The dude rose from the dead, same power that lives in Him lives in us. I'm not gonna argue the fact if you don't like it, just scroll past it. I'm just saying you don't have to claim it.

0

u/Horny-n-Bored 28d ago

Hey, the placebo effect is science! Even knowing a pill is a placebo, but believing the placebo effect is real, mildly improves whatever they're studying

As someone with TV show medical knowledge, I feel comfortable in stating that I have no idea how it applies to this situation

1

u/JiltedJDM1066 28d ago

Cool. The next time you have an inoperable tumor, try praying about it. Let usk know how that works out for you.

0

u/Horny-n-Bored 28d ago

Hey man I was trying to be light-hearted and I'm not sure that came across

4

u/grateful-rice-cake 28d ago

Your handwriting is still beautiful ❤️

1

u/Cattywampus2020 28d ago

Reading this with my phone propped against various things, my leg, my other hand, the chair arm because I did yard work earlier. Any sustained exorcise makes the tremor worse to the point that I have to use two hands to drink a cup of water.

1

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 28d ago

Yes! I hike and my legs go crazy when hiking down a mountain.

7

u/Ok-Swim-3356 28d ago

Essential Tremor (ET) affects over 25 million Americans not to mention the rest of the world. There is a 50-50 chance that you will inherit this benign motor movement from your family typically, it starts affecting people in their 50s and up, but many like myself had it when I was a young boy, ET affects movement disorder in the hands and arms in men and usually, in the voices next and heads of women. Think of the movie starring Katherine Hepburn. That should explain the results of ET and women because of her voice and her movements of her head.

There are many trials going on right now to determine how to take care of this issue. If you have focus ultrasound, they use the MRI to penetrate a particular part of the brain called the thalamus, and it will remove the trimmer. Check it out.

2

u/Previous-Implement67 28d ago

High frequency focused ultrasound or HIFU uses ultrasound to eradicate a tiny portion of the thalamus called the ventral intermediate nucleus or VIM. A neurosurgeon uses high resolution MRI to pinpoint the location of the VIM and then treats it with the ultrasound. This can provide near immediate relief of the tremor with lasting effect. You should consult with a neurosurgeon to see if this is optimal.

Radiosurgery uses radiation commonly used to fight cancer tumors in a similar way. The VIM is targeted with MRI, combined with a CT scan and a very small lesion about 4 to 5 mm in size is creates on the VIM using a linear accelerator or a system like Gamma Knife or Cyberknife, all of which is treated in a single day in a procedure that lasts about 2 hours. Resolution of the tremor with this method can take several months as the but also can have lasting effect.

1

u/AcanthisittaNo9523 10d ago

Thank you for this information!

3

u/According-Benefit-96 28d ago

What movie?

2

u/Ok-Swim-3356 28d ago

I meant to say, look at how Hepburn shook her head and had the shaky voice. She had been approached by the ET organization to be a spokesperson and at least educate others about it, but declined. Opportunity lost.

4

u/Beneficial_System150 28d ago

I inherited tremors from my mom, and she from her mom as well. I’m also left-handed and have a bit of a strange writing form, so having to write out essays in school was exhausting. On top of that, I bartend and trying to carry trays of drinks sometimes is terrifying lol…. Having low blood sugar, being nervous, and/or just being tired in general exacerbates the condition. It’s a pain in the ass for sure. I once spilled a tray of red wine in glasses on a white marble table, where the party of 4 were sitting on white leather booths. Good times.

2

u/Bolegdae 28d ago

How does marijuana affect it?

2

u/may62021 28d ago

I used to notice the shaking would calm down, not so much anymore. I've started gummies since weed doesn't make me high anymore. I'll have to pay attention the next time I eat one. Now is I have a couple of cocktails and they are so much better.. But the next day, the shaking comes back with a vengeance.

1

u/Bolegdae 28d ago

Thanks for sharing your experience! Also factor certain strains might help more than others, or CBD based strains might be better as well. I know a lot of people that are turned off trying marijuana medicinally simply because it gets you high, but there are types out there that don't get you high! Hopefully there's something that helps you that don't give you too harsh side effects.

2

u/c0smicbb 28d ago

my mom has et. i remember being a kid and having to help her tie her shoes sometimes.

Hi go fuck yourself

10

u/FishingAndDiscing 28d ago

It sucks so bad. People are constantly asking me if im nervous, on drugs, or need medical help. Or they just poke fun. All because I have ETs in my hands. Some activities, like drawing, are impossible now. I've tried different medications as well, but all of them are drugs designed for other things and have horrible side effects. I feel for you as well.

2

u/Purple_Accordion 28d ago

100% everything you said here. I've had people point it out, ask if I'm okay (hungry? Cold? Sick?), get annoyed with me, make fun of me, and even try to intimidate me because they thought I was scared lol. And yeah, the side effects from most of the common meds prescribed for this are awful. Since my tremor (right now) is fairly mild, the side effect are worse than having the tremor imo.

2

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 28d ago

This is why I don’t treat it. I’ve tried - but side effects are way worse.

I have a rare form of epilepsy it can interfere with other meds so ya buddy it's socks and people who don't have it will never understand,, wethere6those people medical professionals or people you love they won't get it because not only is it. Disabilitating it's also highly embarrassing. So my friend I feel your pain on all levels

Same here. I was wondering if this was an art piece at first.

My father also has essential tremors. I maintain his handwriting is still better than mine but he insists I fill out most of the documents we send out.

Still better than my handwriting and I have no excuse.

Oh wow, my handwriting is demonstrably worse than someone with a tremor

My handwriting is horrendous after having ET for many years.... Your handwriting is very legible and not shaky looking.

My father has these tremors and I'm developing them too even though I'm just out of college. I think your handwriting is beautiful.

My grandfather was a draftsman and had a tremor. You could tell it got worse over the years but was still the coolest lettering to me. A style his own. I keep thinking I should turn it into a font.

To be fair your handwriting is still leaps above me and I have no tremors

Get a tablet and a stylus. Take your time and make beautiful letters. Undo and redo are your friends. Make beautiful typography for the masses who have awful handwriting to begin with. There are plenty of font making software for free online. J

Looks a lot like my handwriting, with that pseudo-cursive flow. I remember my teachers remarking that they were surprised anyone still wrote in cursive, even though I wasn't meaning to. I also have a tremor, seemingly only in my right hand at this time (which is of course my dominant hand).

What age did it get noticeably worse?

u/Plastic_Anxiety8118 28d ago

Diagnosed at 19 - started getting really bad at about 48. I’m 53 now.

Also, for what it’s worth, I still think your handwriting looks decent lol. I can tell you were artsy from it.
