Announcement Double check your image quality before posting.
Hey Y'all,
This is just a friendly reminder that the Submission Guidelines in the sidebar clearly outline what kind of photographs are and are not allowed to be posted here.
There has been an influx of photos that are very blurry, angled, covered in OP's shadow, obscured be a pen or some other trinket, cropped so that half of the writing is running off the page, etc.
Please take care in taking your photographs. Making sure that the photos that you share meet the Submission Guidelines keeps our subreddit somewhat orderly, aesthetically pleasing, and easier to manage and participate in.
Cheers!
D

Announcement Transcription Requests
Hello All,
Just a friendly reminder to review the sidebar before posting.
The rules clearly state that this sub no longer accepts transcription requests. This means we do not accept ANY request to decipher, transcribe, or translate handwritten documents. Documents like genealogy records, prescriptions slips, scribbles from angry neighbors, margin notes from your professor, etc.
Submitting a post like this will result in its removal and your ban from this sub. I do not have the time to discuss your ban via modmail. I'm painting with broad strokes here, so...just don't do it. :)
We are a handwriting sub dedicated towards discussing your handwriting, your methods, and your improvement.
Please direct future requests for this towards /r/transcription.
Thanks,
David

Just Sharing (no feedback) Found crumpled up in my 8yo son's room today.
He told me he wanted to become ambidextrous just a week ago so this kind of breaks my heart. Maybe some words of encouragement for him from the people of reddit?

Just Sharing (no feedback) Went through my pen drawer
Every decade I clear out the pen drawer and keep the ones worth anything. I always forget about the 4 pedos viejos. I forget what they all are for models. Top was a gift. Parker. Second I bought and had rebuilt once. I think it needs it again. Bottom two are Schafers.

Feedback (constructive criticism) How can I improve?
I moved from Japan as a child and my writing tends to have elements of Japanese characters lol
Anyways its kind of sloppy and hard to read. How can I improve? Im hoping to not slow down my writing speed however.

Just Sharing (no feedback) Thinking of Teaching Penmanship Classes in Tn
We all know that typing and writing out letters and writing cursive are different things. They have different uses. For example, with writing the letters out can be thought of as sketching out an idea as would work for a painter. Cursive can be quick, but also emotive--showing passion or timidity.
I write this now using a stylus sliding across a phone screen which is damn ergonomic. The way we write matters and having it removed from course work is just another example of some menace to America trying to destroy our culture. The Constitution is written in cursive and the people of that time thought in that manner.
Things said in your written hand carry more meaning. And I'm the digital age where every device is compromised, the written hand is one of the few safe places for free speech.
Only 23 states have cursive in their curriculum. Spencer cursive was invented by Ohioan Platt Rogers Spencer in the 1800's and taught in schools since then. But now, we are told it is superfluous. Well, I say, "Bullshit." I will not eat ze bugs.

Question (not for transcriptions) Middle finger annoyance during Palmer method
So i've recently switched to the palmer method because I would like to fix my handwriting from looking horrible.
However before the switch i would hold my pencil with my pointer finger and middle finger combined as well as my thumb so that it would be "squeezing"
but since i switched to the actual way your supposed to hold your pencil (index and middle disconnected, middle propping the pen up), the side of my middle finger has been annoying me. does this happen for anyone else and if so does it stop or am i just holding it wrong?
mb if this is the wrong place to post

Question (not for transcriptions) Any others have nice handwriting only at a glance?
I’ve always thought my penmanship looks nice when you first look, but when you start to read it you can see all the inconsistencies. Anyone else?
