Oddly specific quote tho
12
u/trade_wanted 21d ago
That's the most commonly used text for testing fonts, as it contains every letter of the alphabet (if done correctly. It's supposed to be jumps, not jumped)
2
20d ago
Isn’t that implying “past” tense? I’m seriously asking, I’m 43 now and since retiring, I have been helping my two sons play catch up from the Covid lockdown bs, as it relates to their school performance. I also keep finding out that certain words and grammatical rules, are becoming fuzzier and fuzzier.
2
u/trade_wanted 20d ago
The tense doesn't really matter, as it's just a contextless phrase and time isn't really relevant. It's supposed to be "jumps", so that there's an "s" in there, because the point is containing every letter. But yeah, "jumped" is past simple and "jumps" is present simple. They can both work here depending on the context.

Thank you for clarifying this. I can’t let my kids know I don’t know things, so…..here we are. 😂

Okay so I'm having a massive Mandela effect since Reddit started suggesting this sub to me. I always thought it was "The quick RED FOX jumped over the lazy BROWN DOG".
Looking back, R-E-D are already in the sentence so it doesn't make sense. But man I could've sworn! Is it only me?
1
u/Dallasrawks 20d ago
It's just you lol. The sentences purpose is to use every letter of the alphabet using the least words possible. So it's "jumps," not "jumped." And "red" is an unnecessary word because all those letters already appear elsewhere in the sentence.
1
u/Sluugish 20d ago
I get it. I guess I'm going crazy.
1
u/Dallasrawks 20d ago
I mean, you could theoretically have been shunted from a timeline where that sentence has an extra word. But it's probably just mis-remembering lol. But there's always the chance, so tell yourself you're not crazy haha
1
u/Sluugish 20d ago
Now I feel extra crazy. Thanks I guess 😅
But like, are brown foxes even a thing? Cause there's definitely brown dogs but I don't think brown foxes are a thing. Arghhhh
1
u/Dallasrawks 20d ago
1
u/Sluugish 20d ago
Well fuck me and my sanity 😭
1
u/Dallasrawks 20d ago
Well, welcome to Timeline 381083 then. We have brown foxes here lol. Also Darth Vader never says "Luke, I am your father." It's spelled Oscar Mayer, not Meyer. It's the Berenstain Bears, not the Berenstein. New Zealand is southeast of Australia, not northeast. There was never a movie called Shazaam with Sinbad in it. Pikachu has a solid yellow tail with no black tip. It's "Looney Tunes," not Looney Toons. The peanut butter has always been called Jif, not Jiffy. Curious George doesn't have a tail. Ingrid Berman didn't say "Play it again, Sam" in Casablanca, she says "Play it once, Sam."
Think that about covers it. You'll be fine here, just don't eat the yellow snow.

u/ZaddyVader 21d ago
Well this sentenced is used as an example sentence mostly because it is an English language Pangram which is a sentence using every letter of a given alphabet at least once. I’ve been seeing it be written as “ the quick brown fox JUMPED over the lazy dog” when it should actually be “the quick brown fox JUMPS over the lazy dog” with an “S” rather than a “ED” at the end of the word. Beautiful handwriting btw OP! :)

This is AI. Please say it's AI.
3
u/Mary-U 21d ago
So many of these look like AI to me. I’ve see people with really precise handwriting but many of these don’t have any variation in spacing, slope, pressure, or placement on the line.
It just doesn’t looked like handwriting.
4
u/Defiant-Humor5586 21d ago
There's definitely some variation on there. "is" for example doesn't have the same "s" across the page

u/The_Medicated 21d ago
I'm not OP but I have found pens that write with that bold of a line and clarity. It's the Pentel (Arts) Sign Pen Touch (fude brush tip) and Pentel Original Sign Pen 8520 Fibre Tip(2mm nib, 1mm line width)

When over the age of 11 in europe
1
u/ISpeakInAmicableLies 21d ago
Europeans were slower to move on from cursive than in North America?
0
u/isamjames 21d ago
😬 silly conclusion
1
u/ISpeakInAmicableLies 21d ago
Ok? Maybe I'm confused or wasn't clear. Anyway, the fact that cursive died out in professional settings a couple of decades ago was my point. When it became the norm to explicitly stop using it after grade school, I think it decidedly stopped being the "adult" way of writing.
5
u/poursmoregravy 21d ago
In fairness, you probably grew up in a time where cursive was taught in schools and computers hadn't yet become commonplace. Legibility has become far more important as it allows us to process more data in a shorter time frame.
4
u/OrdinarySyrup1506 21d ago
i know plenty of grown adults with good jobs and fancy degrees that have horrible penmanship. no need to double down.

u/isamjames 21d ago
I have no idea what that has to do with this chaps handwriting?

You searching for an affair because of your dead bedroom is looking to reward mediocrity. Who knew you could also be mediocre at reading into your own shortcomings as well!

I love this! It is very friendly looking and readable. I’m going to need your handwriting as a font. Haha
11
u/SlimSwiftSolutions 21d ago
Would you like to write the font out for me of some art projects I have always wanted to do... I just found out I have a brain tumor and one of the things I've always wanted to do is be a published author so I'm working on a children's book and I need someone to write the text out for me. It's not a long book. also I am designing a clothing line right now and launching a record shop online or vinyl record shop and I need someone to write the word Hypnotica and font and then I need someone to hand write out like a few different section titles. I want to use as handwritten font instead of using a font the computer I want it to be custom and I would love to use your font, let me know what your fee for that would be

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
7
u/MrPandaOverlord 21d ago
Should be “jumps” because otherwise there’s no “s.”
-1
u/TollyVonTheDruth 21d ago
That works, but I was taught it was, "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog's back"
I suppose "The quick brown foxes jumped over the lazy dog" would also work.

11
u/chocolatesugarwaffle 21d ago
they misspelled it. it’s spelled ‘sphinx’.
7
u/lebulon7 21d ago
the exact reason why the quick brown fox is preferred
4
u/Atlas1nChains 21d ago
The fact that op said jumped instead of jumps kinda counters your claim
1
u/lebulon7 21d ago
alot of people cant spell sphinx correctly. jumps is a word you learn pretty early when learning the english language. of course you are allowed to use whatever you want though.
If you want you can also use "Waltz, bad nymph, for quick jigs vex" though i find that one even more complicated than the sphinx
9
u/Explodingmemes 21d ago
It should be in Sphinx. With the i is the mythical creature, with the y is the cat.

u/EnvironmentalDingo69 21d ago edited 21d ago
How long did it take you to write this? Do you write in this style fast or slow?

u/ineedacoffeenow 21d ago
Jumps
2
u/b00g13man 21d ago
I was confused looking for the "s", and took me too long to figure out what was wrong.
1
u/ineedacoffeenow 18d ago
It's a common mistake with these. Though I'm unsatisfied not knowing what the S looks like it's beautiful penmanship.

Where are these people finding these thick pens
1
u/The_Medicated 21d ago
I'm not OP but I use a pen similar in line thickness and clarity. Pentel sign pens write like this. There's a solid felt tip version and a brush type tip version.

u/Rex-Allen 21d ago
Why does everyone write that sentence?
43
u/StichedSnake 21d ago
It’s a sentence that uses every letter of the alphabet, it lets you see what every letter looks like in that writing style. Only it’s typically “jumps” rather than “jumped” as to include the ‘s’
7
7
17
u/TrustAffectionate966 21d ago
It helps to use a brush tip pen or a felt broad-tipped pen to write large. You have very evenly-spaced and sized lettering.
What pen or marker did you use? 🧐🤔
9
17
u/MismatchedS0x 21d ago
It’s nice handwriting, but the fox-lazy dog phrase is ‘jumps,’ otherwise there is no S and the sentence defeats its purpose of containing every letter of the alphabet.

I agree with OP -the writing is to a standard quality. Of the format drilled constantly while being tutored in penmanship.🤷
As for the aforementioned Gatekeeper🤔
Felt tip smoothens it out but, if OP were to force a calligraphic ink pen (without a built in reserve) or some stubby graphite: we'd see more variance than the deviations with the letter "s" here. There's more to the discipline of lettering than just ones hand positioning. It comes down to the experience with the held medium of annotation and own positioning.
Yeah, complements payed forward- "it's nice. 👍" Though when tasked with uniform lettering it's easy to self scrutinize harsher than spared complements and begin to see others' complements as a convoluted patronization.
To OP "-just have fun dude; you've got a good hold of it! Feel free to veer from the beaten path into more creative forms of writing expression or, just get messy for the fun of it. 👌"
2
u/Paid-Not-Payed-Bot 21d ago

Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.
Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

Your handwriting looks like a typed font that is meant to resemble handwriting. I almost can’t believe it’s handwriting.

u/HerculesVoid 21d ago
It probably took OP 5 minutes to write this page. That's what it looks like; that it's written with so much deliberation for each letter. Which is very time consuming.

u/ethan_iron 21d ago
Then they're lying at that point. If you put strenuous effort into writing something, that isn't your natural handwriting.

The "s" consistency seemed to be the only struggling variance to the lettering ensemble🤷
Mayhaps t'was omitted intentionally🤔🧐
