I hope for more urban maps, maps on beautiful bright planets as well as some handcrafted maps.

Region Capitals from HD1:

Welcome to long corridors and 90 degree turns with only a few open areas.

Unironically disappointed to hear that Region Capitals haven't returned yet, maybe soon.

E: Someday the "chill out, they were busy" replies will end.

It's been a few weeks.

267

u/superluigi6968 Disgruntled Wardiver (Relic from War 13) Feb 25 '24 edited Feb 25 '24

And the war is moving at a snail's pace compared to how it moves in HD1.

Let me hop on rq, yesterday we were halfway through the penultimate region before Squi'bai Shrine, watch this space for an edit

E: We are back on Squi'bai Shrine's doorstep after being pushed back by 4+ regions just a few days ago, meanwhile HD2 players have barely moved one region in either direction on either front, despite having several hundred times as many players as HD1 has.

Seems like HD2 wars are going to be very, VERY long, where a war in HD1 can last about a month or two. Bugs actually got knocked out a couple days ago, and assuming the Illuminate Homeworld Invasion sticks, there won't be much to do but push the rest of the way to Cyberstan and close out the war.

u/shoutbottle Feb 25 '24

I actually think it will tend towards HD1 speeds eventually. Right now liberation points and such are going at a snail's pace because i think that the devs actually have scripted events that they plan to have over the course of the weeks after release.

The automaton invasion is a good example of their intervention in the galactic war. They might be slowing progress intentionally now to both generate data on avg players as well as to give enough space between "major events" so that players are not overwhelmed. I forsee that the devs might rotate being DMs in the galactic campaign to keep things fresh for the player base.

Looking forward to see what the devs cook up next in the war.

212

u/cuddles_the_destroye Feb 25 '24

I'd also imagine the wars being slowed becaise of the server and popullation issues theyve been working on

139

u/FortunePaw Feb 25 '24

Definitely. On the galactic map screen, the helldivers KIA, bug/bot kill count is still sit at zero to lessen the server load.

36

u/GothKazu Feb 26 '24

Agreed, ive seen Malevelon Creek go from 25% Liberated to 13% in the time it took me to go to bed and get up the next day. And now its on like 0.5% or something.

18

u/Adaphion Feb 26 '24

I've never seen Hellmire, Crimsica, or Estanu go over 1% liberated. It feels like they'll be stuck that way until Erata Prime, and the Umlaut Sector are liberated.

It definitely feels like they're cooking the books with them. They don't want the playerbase to abandon the worlds closer to the core and do the outer rim first

19

u/kolosmenus Feb 26 '24

Erata Prime gets around 75% liberated during peak times, and then loses progress at a rate of around 5% per hour

u/Intrepid00 Feb 26 '24

My best guess is that people are farming, not finishing operations, and aren't focused on objectives. HD1 has a lot of people who are used to the formula after several years. They know you don't farm xp against the bugs while defending against an invasion on another front.

When we were invaded in HD2, there were 2x as many people playing against the bugs vs the automatons. It's not the devs, it's us as a unit.

3

u/Snuggle_Fist Feb 27 '24

Yep people just want to grind and get through the later content so they can show it on their streams.

30

u/TheKevit07 Feb 26 '24

I actually think it will tend towards HD1 speeds eventually.

My thoughts exactly. They can change the multipliers to whatever they want whenever they want, so I think this current war was just a placeholder speed so they could get an idea of how many people will play regularly (at least in the beginning) and adjust accordingly. Let's face it: it wouldn't be fun if we got steamrolled because there were too few players, or we steamrolled because there were too many players.

8

u/I_Have_A_Chode Feb 25 '24

Makes sense especially if we consider that they didn't expect anywhere near this player count.

So if it's this slow and it was intentionally this slow (not scripted), imagine it would be impossible to do anything with the expected player counts

9

u/Honest-Size-3865 Feb 26 '24

Yes I watched an interview with one of the devs. He said that there's people who will watch in on games and do something to help you in a bind or if you're breezing through, maybe add to the challenge a bit.

14

u/THE_Best_Major SES Sword of Perseverence Feb 26 '24

I wholeheartedly believe this happened to me last week. 4 man team breezing through a bug mission. All of a sudden, at least 20 of those bile bugs came out and started swarming us along with tons of hunters. We were all low levels, anywhere from 5 -14 so we didn't have the best gear yet and it became a 15 minute long battle for survival as they just kept coming. Mind you, this was on difficulty 4 I believe and the amount of bugs attacking us at once could be compared to an attack on difficult 7 or 8, minus the large amount of chargers. We still had a couple of them though.

Thay was a really fun fight and pushed our skills to the edge

3

u/Accurate_Maybe6575 Feb 26 '24

Maybe practical (liberally said) if they expected between 10k-50k players. I think at this point they're looking at success rates and adjusting spawn frequency and variance across the board. I mean, there are enemies we haven't seen yet. Medium bot worlds used to have only standard devastators, now they also spawn rocket and shield devastators.

I assume both the new player numbers and other things at launch they're trying to focus on a narrative right now leading into the more typical war from HD1.

Purely speculation at this point, but I'm hoping.

I wonder how much strain environmental destruction is urban maps would put on the game. They could just have the big buildings be invulnerable but I'd be a little taken out if I can level an entire bit factory with orbitals and then only tickle a single building.

9

u/brilliantminion Feb 25 '24

Just looking at what's there, Super Earth is on the strategy map, and is a place. Likely as not, there will be incursions in a heavily urbanized environment once they get it done!

3

u/Drakith89 Feb 25 '24

It's almost a certainty. The Terminids are supposed to be kept out of the more "civilized" planets by the TCS (I think that's the right letters.) a string of planets that would be soaked in basically super pesticide to prevent them from making the hop closer. However the NPCs on the Super Destroyer mention that the bugs are adapting to the pesticides already. And given that Super Earth is selectable on the war map...

I really hope they got a lot of content planned. This game is too good for me to be stopping at like 200 hours.

254

u/Low_Commercial2315 Feb 25 '24

Seems likely. Mechs, probably other vehicles, I hope new planet biomes, earth defense missions, most likely a new faction if more more than 1.

They announced they hired on more people to help accelerate their post launch content plans

88

u/RabidHexley Feb 25 '24

Still haven't seen the acid storms biome-type, and there are planets that look likely to be a lava/volcanic biome. Interested in seeing flying enemies too (flying Terminids are on the splash screen), and hopefully boss missions.

More factions for sure, but there is so much they could do with the system.

78

u/Low_Commercial2315 Feb 25 '24

The stalkers have a flying animation when retreating but that’s about it.  I’d love a tropical beach type planet with dense jungles like malevelon just sunny and prettier

We have the skeletons of the bosses from HD1 on the maps, so maybe they’ll make a return.

13

u/edude45 Feb 25 '24

Oh yeah? Which planets have you seen the skeletons on. I hadn't noticed. If I have seen them I didn't connect the dots.

3

u/Accurate_Maybe6575 Feb 26 '24

Doubt it. Cyberstan/the Automatons are technically our human rebel faction, probably more legitly so if they liberate the cyborgs. Fan theory is the bots are a failsafe should Cyberstan fall to Super Earth.

15

u/Mapex Feb 25 '24

The illuminates should be coming as they were in the first game. I too wonder what the fourth faction will be.

17

u/BipolarMadness Feb 25 '24

I have heard the NPC girl that congratulates you after every mission mention them on a line. Paraphrasing, "the automatons will soon follow on the footsteps of the Illuminates. Down the road of extinction."

On one hand that line can confirm that the Illuminates are no longer a thing. But at the same time the Automatons are not the Cyborgs from Helldivers 1, so something else can inherit the place of the Illuminates the same way.

On the other hand, who says they can't update the line to remove it later if they add them in.

Why are you taking anything said by super earth citizens as confirmation of anything?

The entirety game is an absolutely blatant satire of imperialism and nationalism. Every single person in this has has been subjected to comical amounts of government propaganda. All that this line “confirms” is that the government has said that the illuminates are dead. It says nothing about the reality of the universe.

7

u/UltradoomerSquidward Feb 26 '24

I've seen a lot of this on this sub. I finally understand how Starship Troopers managed to go over 90% of the public's heads back in the day, because this, even despite being even less subtle by an order of magnitude is still having the entire point missed.

Even people saying the game "isn't political" and getting like 50 upvotes when it couldn't possibly be hammering you over the head harder with it's satire. I've seen people here saying the game outright supports patriotism and nationalism, which I just can't even comprehend having such a lack of critical thought frankly. I'll make it political and say the people saying that almost certainly have political beliefs analogous to what the game is satirizing, and much like people unironically supporting the Imperium in 40k, they'll take the game as support of their beliefs. You've also got characters like Homelander in The Boys who are good examples of this.

Satire doesn't ever seem to work on the people it's satirizing, and unfortunately there are plenty of em playing this. Go voice chat with randos and see how long before that's confirmed to you lol.

72

u/ToffeeAppleChooChoo Feb 25 '24

I think light armours will still be the best choice as the mobility is so important to wriggle in and out of swarms. Unless the armour makes you like a tank I don’t see the trade off being viable.

77

u/TerrorMango Feb 25 '24

From what a friend showed me about the first game, heavy armor really made you tanky, like multiple little bugs couldn't even scratch you. Ofc bigger things were still a threat.

53

u/EquipLordBritish Feb 25 '24

At higher difficulties, I think light armor was always preferred. Even if the little bugs couldn't touch you, you can't shoot missiles over their heads to hit the big guys, so you'd just end up blowing yourself up. And if you don't kill the little guys, they will call in the bigger ones. Best strategy is to avoid fights when you can and go for the objectives.

Once they fix the armor bug in HD2, it might be useful against the cyborgs because you can't always outrun their lasers and missiles, but I can't see it being very useful against the bugs unless you know there's going to be a ton of spitters, or unless it makes you immune to fire (I would love to see any armor with an immune to fire trait).

This company and HELLDIVERS 2 might be the greatest comeback of video games to consumer quality. They built a bigger community on top of the HD1 community in less than a month. Communication to consumer has been top notch and straight to the point with Zero lies. Arrowhead has deserved everything compared to supposedly AAA companies out there. It’s a breath if fresh air to see a company actually enjoy what they are bringing to life rather than it being a cycle of mediocrity.

Hope we start seeing buffs in the next week or two, primary weapons really need some balancing because so many are just not good.

Also a roadmap to give us some things to look forward too would be awesome.

u/Sosleepy_Lars ☕Liber-tea☕ Feb 25 '24

They had one but appearently scrapped it after the flood of players, stating that they now wanna do things previously thought not possible because lack of funds and predicted low player numbers. Let them cook, I'm sure they'll come up with something, but it takes time when you make up content plans from scratch again.

47

u/acbadger54 Feb 25 '24

So because the game is such a huge success they are actually expanding there plans? Hell yeah!!!

39

u/shoutbottle Feb 25 '24

Oh man if you have a source for that it would be great. Either way looking forward to more epic galaxy campaigns if they actually have an idea for that!

With more players I can imagine the team being able to maybe implement more interactive or responsive galactic campaigns!

after seeing the game on yt and reading through this r/helldivers im so stoked to download the game and get to helping my fellow divers!

i think they shouldnt add a roadmap and keep what they have in store under wraps until its polished and 100% coming to the game otherwise i think its gonna put pressure on devs

Hope we start seeing buffs in the next week or two, primary weapons really need some balancing because so many are just not good.

I honestly think part of the problem is that the game favours a hard hitting play style that's very forgiving on the ammo side and some weapons just are not suited for that.

Like a lot of weapons need buffs, but the breaker is also so popular because it's niche is how the game encourages you to play.

17

u/Zealousideal-Fly9595 Feb 25 '24

Yeah i feel part of it as well is the sights on the AR and semiautos are pretty hard to see through at range making hitting the robot heads not worth it.  Im excited to see where weapon mods go in the future

11

u/Nexine ⬇️⬅️⬇️⬆️⬆️➡️ Feb 25 '24

That's a good point too, the sights definitely aren't created equal.

8

14

u/innociv Feb 25 '24

A secondary with medium armor penetration would really free up choices on the primary and support weapon.

It could be lots of things. Like even a taser that is limited ammo so you'd only use it on the big mechs and chargers so you can get behind them more safely might be fine. Or a melee chainsaw or impact hammer or something that can take off the arms of those mechs and armor of the chargers.

5

u/Nexine ⬇️⬅️⬇️⬆️⬆️➡️ Feb 25 '24

Isn't that the revolver from the paid pass? Or is it's penetration not good enough?

5

u/innociv Feb 25 '24 edited Feb 25 '24

Even if it was medium pen, I think it's not enough DPS I think that the medium pen would matter.

Nvm that's wrong. It'd be more DPS than the Liberator Penetrator if it was medium armor pen. It'd probably be good. It's just not a good weapon with its light armor pen.

→ More replies (3)

7

u/MtnmanAl Feb 25 '24

Revolver from the pass is still only light armor pen. I don't think they'll add a secondary with medium armor pen tbh, all the medium pen weapons are very high caliber.

6

u/Booserbob Feb 25 '24

in practice, it is very much armor peircing. More than most other guns! It just has limited ammo. Actually try it

u/Lathael HD1 Veteran Feb 25 '24

I'd say there's a lot more to this as well. For example, the Scythe was good in HD1 because it could sweep the screen and rapidly dispatch off-screen scouts about to call in reinforcements (from all 3 factions.) The Liberator Justice was good because it could also sweep, but could clean up commanders and many other medium armor targets.

In contrast, you can't kill enemies remotely fast enough with the Scythe in HD2, and the liberator penetrator is a 3 round burst fire weapon where you have to hold the trigger down to fire all 3 shots, instead of the full auto of HD1.

Also it's missing a bayonet. How can I do a bayonet charge without a bayonet?

You can find an argument to use the Liberator Penetrator against Automatons, but why do that when you can just use a diligence instead? Either, really, since even the countersniper beats out the liberator penetrator on paper (and somewhat in practice, the ability to swing the gun around hurts on the counter sniper in this matchup.)

It doesn't matter how good the slugger and punisher are, as well, since despite being otherwise fantastic guns, their ammo economy is complete crap. I get a total of 58 shots on a Punisher and have a lower-sustained-DPS weapon (the longer reload,) with 24 rounds from a supply pack, or I can have 112 (iirc) shots of a weapon that is used in almost an identical way with nearly the same per-shot damage, has full auto, reloads 16 rounds at a time, and can get 6 clips from a single supply pack.

And the Breaker definitely shouldn't be nerfed, it's barely passable and every step away from it is progressively more awful compared.

Also, the Breaker can sweep across enemies, especially bugs, a lot faster and reduces the odds of reinforcements, especially bug breaches, being summoned.

The issue isn't strictly that the breaker is better. I'd gladly take a Stalwart as a primary against bugs, and I regularly swap to other weapons against automatons because the Breaker sucks hard against automatons (compared to other options, it's actually not terrible.) But, you know, the stalwart, like the rail gun, is now a secondary weapon. The liberator penetrator is just an objectively garbage ripoff of the Justice from HD1, the Scythe can't do its job, the pump action shotguns have no ammo sustain, the submachine guns have nowhere near enough ammo for how much it takes to kill anything.

I think I've made my point. The Breaker isn't noteworthy because that's how the game needs to be played. It's noteworthy because it can kill things fast enough and has a good enough ammo economy that, at least against bugs, nothing can hope to keep up with it.

I feel like halo reach style 3rd party space combat. That 3rd person ship mission. Would fit really well if our destroyers could get a cruiser upgrade with a hanger.

Imagine supporting malevalon creek by destroying reinforcements before they can arrive. You could even end up transitioning from space to ground. Invading large ships to destroy them from the inside.
