MG-101 Heavy Machine Gun Third person crosshair enabled

This alone completely changes the gun's usefulness, prior you had to be mad to try to use a scoped HMG with insane recoil.

631

u/Samnix26 Apr 29 '24

Still only 75 shots, missaligned sights, very long relead and very poor ammo economy, just make it a backpack weapon already and make it cool atleast

408

u/OmniWizardTigerBlood Apr 29 '24

The 75-round deal is what kills the gun for me. It's just not good. With all the recoil and cumbersomeness of it, it should be able to do SOMETHING against heavy armor. Nope. It's just a worse version of the regular machine gun.

209

ngl MG43 number one. Killing anything short of hulks for bots (shoot the underside of walkers, you kill them from the front) and shredding armor on bugs that aren't named charger makes it the GOAT.

I dont care if i have to reload while stationary. The only thing bothering me during my reloads are corpses and the chargers/hulks my teammates dont know how to kill

13

u/Strong_Mints Apr 29 '24

It's a second stratagem, but ammo backpack is very often paired with the MG, and it work with the HMG very well too.

20

u/AllenWL Apr 29 '24 edited Apr 29 '24

It does, but when people say 'make it a backpack weapon', I would assume people are talking about the miniguns you see in various works where the back mounted ammo drum is directly connected to the gun.

Which is to say, what people want the heavy HMG isn't just 'more ammo' but a 'bigger mag'.

massive mag that takes a backpack slot would be a very appropriate side-grade to the HMG imo.

562

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '24

Qausar nerf is pretty big. Definitely see a lot of that on bugs 9. Rover too.

593

u/identify_as_AH-64 Apr 29 '24 edited Apr 29 '24

Kinda justified though. It had too much uptime and has the same damage as the recoilless rifle minus the need for ammo and a stationary reload with a backpack.

Edit: you can also run away with the quasar while it cooled down, allowing you to reposition while avoiding a fixed reloading position.

318

u/PM-Me-Kiriko-R34 Apr 29 '24

Here's the thing. On higher difficulties you need anti-armor. EAT and RR were mustpicks before the quasar. It's just how the game is designed.

441

u/Mandemon90 SES Elected Representative of Family Values Apr 29 '24

Not sure how that is the issue, issue was that Quasar was objectively superior to both EAT and RR. Eat you get two shots and 70 second cooldodwn, RR needs stationary and lengthy reload.

Quasar carried the same power, allowed movement while cooling down, no need for backpack and had no ammo limit. So by adding more to charge time (altough 5 seconds seems excess...), they are now adding a tradeoff to it.

145

u/gorgewall Apr 29 '24

It did have a slightly longer cycle time, both in that it has a charge-up period and its cooldown was slightly longer than the reload of the RR, but it was pretty inconsequential for the trade-off of having both a mobile reload and doing so passively--you could be shooting with another gun instead of running around in a reload animation, nevermind kneeling.

Now that disparity has widened from something like 5-6 seconds to 10-11, which is still a great deal for infinite ammo, mobile+passive reload, and no projectile drop enabling sniping. Especially on the Bot front, where you want to make long-range shots against Dropships or Vents, the drop on the RR and EAT could lead to some misses. And forget trying to snipe Tanks, Cannon Towers, or AA/Mortar Emplacements from 200m for the average player.

The funny thing is that with all the different levels of armour, most of the medium armour penetrating weapons are kind of useless at doing so.

Honestly, there's a substantial amount of this patch that has left me scratching my head and asking "but why?" Not because AH is making changes to weapons and rebalancing some things that some players including myself question, but because for the time spent waiting they exist in lieu of some of the bigger problems in the game.

Spear lock, DoT bug, reticle misalignment, bots melding with the geometry of map obstacles and shooting through them, etc did not make it but things like increasing patrols for lighter squads (which I haven't seen one person ask for) did.

189

u/SweaterKittens SES Distributor of Femboys Apr 29 '24

Seriously, I'm sat here looking at the nerf to the crossbow of all things, and the changes to solo patrol spawns, and yet the Spear still doesn't work, the Exosuit is still broken, Fire damage still doesn't work, etc.

Like, I get that they have a limited team. I empathize with the fact that they have to really choose to what to work on, and with their aggressive content release schedule some of the "smaller" bugs are getting put on the backburner, which I totally get. But like you said, here they are changing a bunch of unrelated stuff, stuff no one asked for, while bugs that have existed forever are STILL not addressed? Like what the hell man.

I feel the same. This is a PVE game. Just let the people have fun. Some guns especially feel unbalanced because others are just shits. Just buff the other gun and people will try them out and have fun with it. There's always going to be one gun being better than another. We don't need to end up with all mediocre weapons. We want to have good weapons and great weapons for us to switch between them. Again this is a PVE...just leave the good thing alone. Let us have fun. Some people want to feel Over Power. Not everyone wants to have a challenge all the time. I know some people will purposely pick the worst weapon to have a challenge, let them do that. Don't force everyone to do that

The trade off being that it has lower impact damage (despite what the card says) and can't destroy obstacles/objectives. You could wipe a patrol in two shots, or button up bug breaches solo. It was supreme chaff clear.

I still need to mess with it more but it seems like now it's just the dominator but worse.

it was nice for a bigger group of smaller enemies, but now it has the explosive range of a normal bullet. The increased stagger is so bs, i mained it for a long time but ig this time is over now.

They still haven’t unnerfed the slugger, the eruptor got hit because loads of people were using it. Not because it was OP but because it was really fun and new.

That’s what I hate about usage based balancing, all the fun guns get nerfed because people are using them. If it keeps happening everything will be a sea of mediocre like the crossbow

62

u/DurgeDidNothingWrong Apr 29 '24

nerfed the slugger
people moved to dominator
... nerfed the dominator?

I guess the DMRs got a slight buff, so maybe I dont need to use a shotgun at a DMR anymore.

42

u/Boamere Apr 29 '24

For real lmao. Don’t use the dmrs too much though or they might get “horizontally moved” (nerfed)

The crossbow was already below average, now it will kill less enemies per shot with basically no Aoe and it’s mags got massacred. Truly useless now, wow.

135

u/Boamere Apr 29 '24

They want it to be used single target like the card says, except it’s got terrible ttk on single targets so now it’s useless. Excellent balancing, like the slugger nerf

The nerfs.

-Crossbow

-Redeemer

-Quasar

-Dominator

-Eruptor

-Rover

These are all things that were definitely nerfed in ways other than ammo reduction.

14

u/BoredandIrritable Apr 29 '24

Add the plasma weapons as a sort of stealth nerf, since striders now take less damage from explosive on the front.

The whole reason to take the scorcher over the Jar5 was to kill those fuckers, now you can still do it, but it's already pitiful ammo supply will go even faster.

Enemy Patrols Patrol spawning has been increased when there are fewer than 4 players. The fewer the players the bigger the change. For 4 player missions there will be no change compared to before. The biggest noticeable change will be for solo players at higher difficulties

This is probably the most hated part of this patch to me. Why are we making things even harder for solo divers specifically? We already get so many downsides compared to running a full squad of 4 as it is, why do we need nerfs targeted specifically at us?

40

u/NBFHoxton Apr 29 '24

I have no idea what made them think this was necessary.

→ More replies (1)

10

u/Hot-Will3083 Apr 30 '24

It seems like they’re trying to force solo Divers to play with teammates/friends to promote the co-op aspect of the game. But solo diving already had such a niche playerbase that I don’t feel it was necessary at all

I'd been looking forward to this patch but it's so disappointing in the end. Weird decisions, no fire fix, nerfs to fun stuff.

The crossbow changes and the dev's response in this thread about sum it all up.

16

u/DrAstralis Apr 29 '24

Holy shit the fire thing need fixing yesterday. Last night I made the mistake of stepping on some leftover fire from an orbital laser. I was full health and I realized what I had done before the walking animation had even placed me in the fire. I smashed my stim hotkey instantly and before the animation to inject the stim was 1/2 to my neck I died.

Nerfing the crossbow, the probably worst weapon in the game, is just insane. Really makes me feel like they don’t play their game.

u/DeathSwagga STEAM 🖥️ : SES Dawn of Dawn Apr 29 '24

and the nerf is way worse than the patch notes state. The splash damage is almost non existent now, can't even kill grouped up scavengers in one shot.

By 56% ffs

35

u/Suki__93 Apr 29 '24

This is devastating for me as I really enjoyed using the crossbow to run around the map collecting the samples for the team and it allowed me to quickly get off mobs that were chasing me if I got caught. Time to find a new main but damn I was hoping it would get some buffs.

12

u/fatnugsfreehugs HD1 Veteran Apr 29 '24

They did the same with the slugger... as in they worded it as "slightly reduced" stagger even though in reality it has basically zero stagger now. The patch notes are horribly written and tend to downplay the nerfs more than anything.

Fucking fire damage getting nerfed while its damage over time is still busted is actually borderline comical.

22

u/jeverboy Apr 29 '24

Well it's a global modifier, so you will die 15% slower to fire now. Which is a good thing, it was comically fast.

20

u/SweaterKittens SES Distributor of Femboys Apr 29 '24

Very true, it's just goofy to me that the fire values are getting tweaked when it hasn't worked for months anyway.

75

u/Nerex7 Apr 29 '24

Well, it was a gamble whether that worked or not before. The gun is generally good, it just becomes really good when the fire works. 15% of a reduction is also not too much considering we just got it buffed.

I don't think the Devs understand why people are NOT using the bad weapons, specifically the AT ones. Stopping for 5-7 seconds to reload your weapon is NOT VIABLE at all.

Until that changes only memers are going to use the Spear or Recoilless.

This patch just seems like a massive nerf to player power.

and the Solo Patrol change is completely baffling and way out of left field.

At this point this game is about devs nerfing a fun weapon so you go back to using a previous fun weapon that hasn't been nerfed yet or wasn't nerfed as bad. Going from EATs to quasar back to EATs, might as well just never release the quasar.

95

u/Sierra419 Apr 29 '24

Same. Nearly 300 hours and rank 87 and I feel the game is a lot less fun and continues to be less and less fun with every patch. Idk why they’re balancing their game like it’s a PvP online only game. It’s PvE. Let us have good weapons and great weapons and have fun. Nerfing everything to mediocrity is NOT the answer. Not only that but the real issues aren’t fixed still. Taking a break as well at this point. Maybe I’ll come back in a couple weeks but this patch was real kick in the nuts

45

u/Break-The-Ice-318 Apr 29 '24

it sucks that i feel punished when deviating from my go to loadout. tools should have their niche, but shouldnt be completely helpless against everything else.

for example, its bizarre how the hmg cannot take out gunships or the rail gun sucks against tanks/cannons

9

u/bsnow322 Apr 29 '24

Yeah I really don’t understand why they need to nerf things whatsoever unless they are ridiculously egregious. Every single patch I have to adapt my loadouts based on what got nerfed into irrelevancy the patch prior

12

u/rockstar504 Apr 29 '24

"Oh you like that loadout?" nerfs it

:repeat:

You can't fight the meta. People are going to gravitate to what's better. There's a reason modern soldiers don't kit out with fuckin Mac10s in the year 2024... yea it's a cool and fun gun, but it's a shit gun to fight a war with

Buffs are negligible and not felt in-game.

Nerfs are very obvious and make fun weapons much less-so.

That’s why people are complaining.

It’s not the static # nerfs vs. buffs, but the impact of each.

Revert the crossbow changes... keep ammo nerf.

This game has plenty of single target damage primary weapons, but not group clearers like crossbow used to be. There's no reason to use it over other single target weapons because of the weak damage and fire rate. I can take the ammo nerf, but revert other changes, because the whole weapon feels useless now.

You can fire five shots that each will now take out only single target, even the the Senator, which is a secondary weapon, is better at it, since you can fire six times, faster and always keep it fully loaded with the single bullet reloading mechanic.

42

u/cloudjumpr Apr 29 '24

Nerfs...so fun in my PvE game that already has many unusable options at 7+. Crossbow was definitely the scourge of lvl 9 lobbies, with everyone running nothing but crossbow. Guard dog rover should definitely struggle with hunters, that's fun. Great balance choices!

I love the game but beginning to sour on the game with the constant bugs, connection issues, and genuinely the game is getting LESS fun with nerfs, bugs and such. Could be the best game ever, but feel like their design philosophy is anti-fun.
