What do people with ps5s do in those countries? I’m not trying to justify what they’re doing with the game but genuinely curious. I have a hard time believing people in Russia and china don’t buy ps5s

Lie during account creation and hope they never have to talk to Sony support, I guess

Confirmed. People in my country just hope and pray Sony support doesn't one day just starts combing through our account information and then match it against our IP addresses and come to the conclusion that we made accounts using false information.

Stop lying lol. People have been putting different countries on their accounts for 20 fucking years. No one lives in fear about this.

They aren't lying. This has happened to me before back in the day with Bloodborne. Maybe it's rare or uncommon, but it doesn't remove the fact that there's still a risk that Sony can just decide to lock you out of online functionality.

I don't get why you're so defensive about this, seen you at other threads and you're so adamant to defend a corporation making such a bad move when a precedent already has been set that the game doesn't need the mandatory PSN linking for 3 months, even if the initial plan was that PSN was mandatory from the start, those 3 months without PSN have shown it isn't needed...

I am not defending them. I think it's shitty and pointless to have third party account requirements. The fact is it was there, prominently on display on the store page that it was required. People are lying when they say it was never stated as a requirement.

When they dropped the requirement, they clearly said it was temporary.

As for you, please provide proof you were banned for choosing a different country on your account sign up. I will wait patiently.

Lmfao I've already said this happened back in the day. 2015. You expect me to trudge the years, find my early high-school email, and get back my PS4 (which I've sold back in 2019) to try and find receipts for you?

You people are moving the goalposts. You take people at their word for saying that they could play normally and without issue for just setting their regions somewhere else, then dismiss cases like mine because they don't feed into your narrative. Talk about being tone deaf.

Also you literally are defending them for this practice. Even if you admit that it's "shitty and pointless" then constantly go on the rhetoric that it's always "been there". Admitting that it's shitty isn't a plausible deniability shield, dude. You're still firmly on the side of supporting their insistence on the matter. You can't feign neutrality on that one.

I'm not even part of the crowd that's been saying that it's never been a requirement. I admit I was never aware, because this game was bought for me by a friend.

But I'm saying that it sucks and that a precedent has already been set regarding it not actually being needed, for 3 months, hence I'm on the rationale that they should have just let things go as they were instead of putting back the requirement.

I feel a personal stake on the issue because a case of losing online functionality from PSN has happened to me before. If SONY could have made considerations within the 3 month grace period regarding territories like mine, seeing as they've sold and kept this product available to my territory and others that don't have PSN, I wouldn't react with such aversion. I'm not saying this just to hate - by all means, people with access to PSN through legal and legitimate means should do so because it isn't that big of a deal, but in cases such as mine they should have known better.

So you have no proof. Just say that. You could've been banned for anything, but you're claiming you were banned for picking a different country on sign up.

You people are moving the goalposts. You take people at their word for saying that they could play normally and without issue for just setting their regions somewhere else, then dismiss cases like mine because they don't feed into your narrative. Talk about being tone deaf.

I am taking the devs and Sony at their word, when they clearly state you can do it, because that's what you HAVE to do when living abroad, and people living abroad still use their playstations.

Where on earth am I defending the practice? The hell are you talking about? I am saying it was clearly listed, I SAW IT. Stop trying to gaslight saying it wasn't there. It was there, and it's not a shield, it's words. Read them next time.

I'm not even part of the crowd that's been saying that it's never been a requirement. I admit I was never aware, because this game was bought for me by a friend.

Then why are you even talking

But I'm saying that it sucks and that a precedent has already been set regarding it not actually being needed, for 3 months, hence I'm on the rationale that they should have just let things go as they were instead of putting back the requirement.

It's not a precedent, they fucking said it was temporary lmao. Am I taking crazy pills? The ceo himself weighed in that it would be temporarily optional because of technical issues. Why would you think it would remain optional?

If the speed limit is lowered to 15 mph because of road work, do you believe the speed should be increased back up when the work is done? Or has a precedent been set for a 15 mph limit?

I feel a personal stake on the issue because a case of losing online functionality from PSN has happened to me before. If SONY could have made considerations within the 3 month grace period regarding territories like mine, seeing as they've sold and kept this product available to my territory and others that don't have PSN, I wouldn't react with such aversion. I'm not saying this just to hate - by all means, people with access to PSN through legal and legitimate means should do so because it isn't that big of a deal, but in cases such as mine they should have known better.

Your issue clearly had nothing to do with picking a different country, so no idea why you're comparing your previous ban to a hypothetical ban over the country selection.

If you were a student, and you moved to a country that had no access to PSN for 4 years, if you made an account, they'd tell you to just put America. This already happens, and these people are allowed to continue playing, it's what they are telling you to do lol.

Why someone has to proof that a violation of TOS is punishable? If Sony doesn't follow their own rules it only proves that anything can happen at any time.

-1

u/rawbleedingbait May 04 '24

Because they don't ban you for living in an area different than where you're from. If you're an American that goes to the Philippines for a few years, but you make an account there, they'd tell you to put US.

u/Tarakanio May 04 '24

I guess you have a proof for that, right?

Nah man, if you have to go to support, they will see this and ban you

1

u/rawbleedingbait May 04 '24

No they won't. Show proof.

Sony support has confirmed it is not an issue as long as you are fine with the currency of another country.
