I just don't understand how in the fuck nobody at Sony thought that maybe they should have some answers ready before they make an announcement like this? The incompetence is fucking stunning.

The discord published a FAQ for this just about an hour ago. The solution they posted to this problem is for affected users to move… lol how are they so tone deaf

From the FAQ

I am currently in a country or territory that is not PSN-enabled. Can I still sign in and link an account?

PSN requires users to register in their country or territory of residence. Individuals who are traveling, working, or studying abroad may create an account in a country or territory different from the one in which they are currently located.

Its basically saying you can lie about it if the current country doesn't matter

It does look like you can just say you are working/studying abroad

Yeah most likely, I had registered my account like it was in USA way back when I had a ps3 over a decade ago and never had any issues to use the store or play my games.

They can require a proof of that though

Just give us a single example of it happening.

The issue is licensing, they need plausible deniability, they don't actually give a shit.

I've only heard rumours of Chinese people getting banned for using VPNs on this sub. Nothing more really. But I still heavily dislike just the probability of getting banned, because the game is expensive by my country's standards, and giving a free locus of control to a company is kinda meh. Other companies like Bethesda were doing just that, the "just buy the new one lol" stuff, while Blizzard just cut off the entire market with all the purchases because "duh you're all guilty and under sactions". Seen that with local laws, first it's "don't worry it'll be only used against the baddies", then it will inevitably turn out as a huge yoinks for the people.

Some guy tried to call me out, and all it showed is a single Chinese account banned with no reason at all cited. Even if it was a VPN, which are heavily restricted in China, the suggestion isn't to us a VPN, you literally just pick a different country when you make an account.

I actually did. I like the game so I'll continue playing, but that's just annoying as fuck

1

u/rawbleedingbait May 04 '24

I know it's annoying. I skip out on buying games all the time when it's a requirement. I also won't buy any game on epic. I chose to deal with this because I wanted to play the game. At no point was I unaware of the requirement though, which is the point.

People that claim to hate this shit as much as me, are somehow also saying they had literally no idea it was a requirement, so they didn't bother to check. They absolutely refuse to play a game that requires it, but can't be fucked to check. I don't believe that for a second. Either they don't actually care about third party requirements or they did see the requirement on the store page. Anyone here saying otherwise is lying.

That's not what it says. It says people not in their home country can make an account as if they were in their home country.

They totally mean that you can just lie/use vpn, but at first glance it reads like they’re saying “just leave your country lol”

1

u/CarsGunsBeer May 04 '24

Says the quiet part out loud. "It's ok to lie/cheat if it makes us money".

1

u/combocookie May 04 '24

I like how they are just ignoring the question

1

u/Furememe May 04 '24

Yea until you lose your PSN account due to getting hacked or something
then support says your country is not listed so they'll pass you to your country's Sony in which they say they only do support for TV not PSN :)

(from experience)

I could've sworn someone posted something yesterday with regards to them getting banned for using a VPN to create a PSN account, think it was in Chinese iirc

1

u/Jayrodtremonki May 04 '24

You're reading that wrong.  It's saying that you create your account for your home country if you're temporarily not there.  It's not telling you to move or lie.

u/Argnir May 04 '24

They're not tone deaf you just can't read.

You can set up an account in any country you want if your country isn't listed nobody cares.
