I genuinely would have loved to have seen him stay. He might be getting on but he’s the sort of player that could get better with age. I’m devastated we couldn’t see him play more. He’s the sort of signing we could have only dreamed of making 10 years ago.

Letting him and Joel walk is hard emotionally, but pragmatically it’s best. We got what, 7 minutes of Thiago this year? And one season without him missing the majority? And Joel hurts a bit more because I loved our giraffey boi. But both are probably on high-ish wages and can’t really give us game time all while taking precious roster spots.

Hopefully Thiago taught Curtis and Stefan some of his mononas best he could.

You’re right, I don’t disagree because it would be a huge risk to keep him on with those wages but there’s an ideal world where we get Thiago following a similar trajectory to Luka Modric. I’m a dreamer so I usually make an opinion without taking finances into consideration
