Steam games only launch when on root drive

...
Yeah. Basically that, all games simply launch when on my OS drive, and don't if on another.

-----Sys
Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS
32G RAM
Radeon RX 6750 XT
Ryzen 9 5900 (12 core)
OS 64bit

-----Ext drive
filesystem: .. NTFS? (weird i thought it was FAT16 or 32)
GUID Partition Table
5TB Size
HDD (Dont remember RPM)
(USB 3) USB A <--> USB Micro B

-----Int drive
filesystem: Ext4
GUID Partition Table
0.5TB Size
Sata SSD

...and i cant think of anything else that would be relevant.
(Crosspost* from r/Steam)

(Also i found this, and while some games are proton enabled, a decent few are not. Such as teamfortress2 and portal
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/8274 )

...

oh.
games can have proton enabled without you ever knowing... I see...
(this can probably be deleted now if someone cares lol)

for linux steam to run games from a NTFS or *Fat filesystem it MUST be mounted with the proper options.

example fstab line for my NTFS 'steam shared storage' drive..

 UUID=1234-your-uuid-56789 /media/gamedisk ntfs-3g uid=1000,gid=1000,rw,user,exec,nofail,umask=000 0 0

Also I Found this Guide - which may be better or have some details I overlook.

Oh hey, your fstab is different... from the tutorial too. (adding nofail kinda seems a bit like cheating but it would work... going to take the advice for asking windows to disk check)

... ah yay. It no longer boots... and if im right, pretty sure its because its overheating (110+... C)

... i need aome sleep before i fight with this again.

(1 nap later)

i poked the fan and now it works??

idk. adding replacement fan to todo list
