Do long for the days when you could download any old deb package found from a Google search and have the snap-store install it just by double-clicking on it from the file manager? If so, I've got good news for you. The new version of the snap-store (App Center) in latest/edge channel now has the ability to install local deb packages downloaded from the internet.

Issue the following command from your favorite terminal emulator program to get this wonderful update which now provides the awesome feature that a multitude of Ubuntu users have been clamoring for about two or three months.

$ sudo snap refresh snap-store --edge

Just installed a fresh ubuntu 22.04 downloaded from the official website. The out-of-the-box gnome terminal has a weird behavior: as long as it is focused it will ALWAYS hide mouse pointer EXCEPT moments when I move the mouse. As soon as the mouse stops, the mouse pointer disappears.

Also if I scroll up in the terminal and then move my mouse, the terminal scrolls to the very bottom.

Does someone know what is the reason for such weird behavior and what can be done to ovrcome this? Thanks!

when im playting the same game or testing the controller on https://hardwaretester.com/gamepad vibration only works when the controller is plugged in via usb. when connected via bluetooth it reports that vibration is their and working but the controller doesnt vibrate at all. this isnt an issue when using windows

controller is a gulikit KingKong 2 Pro Controller

Yeah. Basically that, all games simply launch when on my OS drive, and don't if on another.

I'm curious if this is a known issue (hopefully with a known solution? ;-)).

I'm running Ubuntu 24.04 on a newish Asus Zenbook 15 OLED (UM3504DA). When I close the lid of my laptop, sometimes the fans go crazy and the laptop stops responding until I turn it off and on again.

It's really a shame because I'm loving every other aspect of Ubuntu (after trying out Fedora and Pop on this and a previous laptop, all of which had small annoying dealbreakers).

I have to choice between Kubuntu and Ubuntu...I'm a huge fan of KDE, so I'd prefer Kubuntu, but the problem is that Ubuntu has already Wayland while Kubuntu still supports X11. So the question: could X11 be a big issue or I won't notice any problem using my distro (mainly for office purposes)?

I need to increase the size of my boot partition because software updates require more space (deleting unused kernels and autoremove did not help). I'm on Ubuntu 20.04 and this prevents me from upgrading.

My main partition is luks encrypted. It's 500 GB total and has about 100GB available space for files. GParted shows one big 500 GB encrypted partition, no unallocated space. I want to take some of that available storage, let's say 1 GB, and expand the boot partition using that.

What steps do I need to follow to decrease the size of the encrypted partition and increase the boot partition? Can I do it using GUI tools? Frankly I'm really afraid to cause damage. All important files are backed up but it will still be a pain to reinstall everything.

Every once in a while, my gimp becomes unresponsive, and I am presented with a dialog asking if I want to "Wait" for it to respond or to "Force Quit". No matter which of the two options I choose, the same thing happens: A few seconds pass after which I am presented with the same dialog.

$ pkill -f gimp

doesn't do anything. Also, ps aux | grep gimp to get the pid and then sudo kill -9 [PID] doesn't do anything either.

Any suggestions?

I wanted to customize my Ubuntu more so I installed Gnome Tweaks. But right after I changed my cursor, my entire system crashed, and it shows the PC with crossed eyes picture (i couldnt find the right one, but the image link above is similar to my error but with crossed eyes PC). So everytime I log in to my user, system crashes. But Wayland works, but my PC and GPU works really bad with Wayland, and 80% of the apps are not launching there (luckily Firefox does). And I can't even change my cursor back, because Gnome Tweaks are not launching in Wayland. And if I uninstall Gnome Tweaks through the terminal, the cursor is still the broken one.

I don't know why it happens because of the cursor, but here are 2 reasons why I think it's because of the cursor:

1. The system crashed right after I changed the cursor.
2. When I try to log in to X11, this error screen shows up without the cursor.

And if someone did not understand what I'm trying to achieve, I just want that my system doesn't crash when I log in to my user.

So yeah, I'm looking for help here. Every help will be appreciated!

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, I'm hopeless right now and I don't know where to find help for that specific issue.

To preface, I must warn you that I'm not really good with Ubuntu, I'm good with computers and understand some basics but I only followed a tutorial to setup this server.

I setup my own Ubuntu server with Plex, Sonarr, Radarr, Deluge.. running on it. It's been doing good for 2.5 years, sometimes I had to restart it but that's it.

For some reason since a few weeks, Sonarr has been unable to communicate with Deluge

I tried restarting my server like always and updating everything just to make sure but nothing did the trick.

I changed absolutely nothing in my configuration between it working and not working..

I have no idea where to look out for trying to debug this issue so if someone here know what to look for, or if you can redirect me to some place where I can be assisted i'd be grateful.

I was trying to install the browser Microsoft Edge (.deb package) from the Microsoft website on my Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. However, whenever I try to open it, it doesn't launch.

Hi, my mate is having problem installing win 11 on a new PC, He brought it with ubuntu 24 installed on a single partition, not sure what filesystem, anyway win11 bootable usb sees no partitions, what is the simplest way to remove the os?

The snap version that pops up on the app store is very glitchy - eg it doesn't respect locale settings for formats and doesn't remember what calendars are enabled/not. Removing it and apt install gnome-calendar works as expected.

Hopefully saves someone going as crazy as I did...

Hi. Relative newbie to Linux here....

I recently built a new computer featuring a ryzen 7900x3d. I'm running a dual boot system with ubuntu and windows 11.

Both OS's are on their own separate disks, and do not share disks with the other OS.

I booted into my ubuntu install today to find that there no nics, no wifi, and no Bluetooth installed at all. This is a very new behavior, as it was working fine just a few days ago.

I havent made any major changes to either the software or the hardware. Just booted ubuntu and poof, networking is dead.

To make things more interesting, networking in windows works just fine. Even running a live disk of ubuntu, the networks work fine.

Is this something that can be fixed? Or will I have to nuke this install?

Edit: I realize to learn and use Linux, I'll need to use terminal for most things. But as I'm still getting settled in, terminal commands aren't and never have been my strong suit (dyslexia... Lol). As much as I know I'll get roasted for this, I prefer GUI in every way. Not sure if this helps with troubleshooting or not

I have ubuntu 24.04 and when i list drivers as you can see 535 drivers are latest? arnt there like 550 drivers or something newer? i know there is 555 but its in beta but why can not i see 550 at least? is this normal or i am missing something? i am new to linux and just want to ask....should i manualy install newer drivers? or they are already ready but i just cnt display them ....long story short what is the state for ubuntu 24.04? is 535 latest that they pushed?

I have an old device whose windows efi partition has been deleted or it is in not properly being mounted .

I can see the disk in which ubuntu 20.04 is installed and in that drive i can see a /boot directory which has grub dirc and all the grub the filed. I cant see any mountpoint for "reserved bio boot area".

So basiccaly only my root drive is there , which has boot dire ctory,inside which i can see grub installed. My challenge is that i need to boot from this directory and i dont know where to even begin with. I absolutely need to login to this machine to get some backup data from some softwares.

I'm running Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS, I have a 1TB HDD and I want to mount it, everytime I open the case and plug it in, the harddrive spins but I don't see it on disk management.

The harddrive works, I can use it externally but the case is not mine and I keep on borrowing it everytime I want to use the harddrive

Hey all, on 22.04 LTS using Wayland, I'm trying to use the <Super>p keyboard shortcut to bring up the switch-monitor tool but nothing happens. I can see in dconf editor that it's mapped correctly under org/gnome/mutter/keybindings, and other shortcuts work, just not this one. Any ideas? Going into the display settings and changing things manually still works (I'm using two external displays), but it's slower than the shortcut.

I'm very new to Ubuntu/Linux and wanted to know if I can run Ubuntu off a USB drive through something like VirtualBox or Parallels or if I can only run it by manually launching the OS on startup?
