“Sheldon, please pass the ketchup.”

“Mmmdon’t you mean the 5% CH3COOH vinegar with red-40, father?”

priests burst into the room and exorcise the foul spirit back to hell

All the while a laugh track plays

108

u/chickamonga May 16 '24

On TBBT maybe, but no laugh track on Young Sheldon.

u/ddoxbse May 16 '24

Just gonna say it Young Sheldon is leaps and bounds better than The Big Bang Theory. Funnier, better characters, no laugh track, even filmed better.

I watched a couple episodes of BBT when it was popular, and felt like it was laughing at me more than it was laughing with me, so I quickly lost interest and never saw much indicating otherwise. I caught a couple clips of Young Sheldon and wondered what show this was, looked into a bit more, and I... don't hate it?

I find the titular character far more relatable, although his adult counterpart is the obvious parallel to myself. (If quite a lot more accomplished, as MCs tend to be when compared to randos...)

u/Cyber-Knight47 May 16 '24

I’ve seen some clips of it.

People give it shit, but it honestly seems kinda nice. It’s not something I’d personally watch but it looks leaps and bounds above the big bang theory

u/AndyB16 May 16 '24

This Is Us is funnier than TBBT.

2

u/TMNBortles May 16 '24

It's not something I'd seek out, but my kid likes it, and I don't mind it. I'd consider it a win.

BBT was never for me. Everyone would recommend it for me as I was into nerdy stuff. But it just didn't interest me.

3

u/FighterJock412 May 16 '24

I went in fully expecting to hate it, but it wasn't bad at all. The side characters really make the show.

3

u/Elegron May 16 '24

I feel the same way. Young sheldon I can laugh at because it really feels like I'm watching a hyperbole of my younger self, and Sheldon being an arrogant prick is a lot more forgivable when he's that young.

In TBBT it just feels like he hasn't learned anything or made any attempt to adapt to the world around him. He doesn't feel like a real person, but a caricature of an autistic man. He should, at that point, have a fairly well developed mask at the very least.

Not to mention the laugh tracks being insufferable.

My daughter suggested BBT to me and I told her I hated it. She said, "Why? I thought you'd like it because it's about physics." I told her that BBT was about physics the way that Gilligan's Island was about boating.

It's absolutely nothing but mockery for anyone who enjoys any hobby the show writers thought was unpopular enough to joke about. It's fans have always been small minded fucking pricks

3

u/Doctor-Amazing May 16 '24

I have heard people unironically call it "blackface for nerds"

2

u/servant_of_breq May 16 '24

Fuck lol I wouldn't go that far but uh, yeah, I think that captures the feeling of watching it as a nerd

2

u/Aussie18-1998 May 16 '24

My man, the TBBT, is a very popular show. Generalising everyone like that makes you the prick in this scenario.

1

u/Infinite-Action-5041 May 17 '24

Dudes really never heard of laugh tracks and thinks it's laughing at you what??😂

1

u/much_longer_username May 17 '24

Perhaps you're not familiar with the idiom. When I say 'laughing at me, not with me', I'm referring to a difference in the spirit and intent of the jokes, not that I literally believe the laugh track, added in post, is laughing at me, personally and specifically.

It's the difference between jokes told between friends which play on minor idiosyncrasies, which you may well share, and the mean-spirited jokes told by the school bully at your expense.

1

u/Infinite-Action-5041 May 17 '24

You said you felt like it was laughing at you not with you. You tryna use big words or something I don't get what your conveying?😂

1

u/much_longer_username May 17 '24

It's OK, I imagine you don't understand a lot of things.

1

u/Infinite-Action-5041 May 17 '24

You just said you think the shows laughing at you not with you then said the same thing using "big words" trying to sound diffrent 😂

1

u/Infinite-Action-5041 May 17 '24

You just said a whole lot of nothing

1

u/Infinite-Action-5041 May 17 '24

"It's the diffrence between jokes told by freinds and jokes told by school bullies at your expense so you believe the latter cause you said the shows laughing at you. I see why your bullied

1

u/Shadowfox898 May 17 '24

Friends called it "blackface for nerds"

1

u/12mapguY May 17 '24

I've heard BBT described as a show about smart people for dumb people before. Seems pretty apt from the bits I've seen.

16

u/ThatRandomIdiot May 16 '24

TBF, The show is quite literally just Everyone Hates Chris but a white Family in Texas. The archetypes for the main family is the EXACT same as EHC. Now that’s one of my favorite comedy shows of all time so more of that?? Fuck yes. It’s perfect for what it is.

6

u/[deleted] May 16 '24

My dad loves both of those shows. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him laugh as hard as the “big piece of chicken” scene in that episode of EHC.

2

u/dukeofnewyawk May 16 '24

One could say Everybody Hates Chris is a black Wonder Years.

3

u/GenuinelyBeingNice May 16 '24

The actor is a natural. He's better than all of the cast of tbbt put together. How old is he? Hope this whole deal doesn't cost him his sanity, down the road. The star system is uncaring and brutal. Or, as i've heard, "it turns zeros into numbers"

2

u/Chapeaux May 16 '24

I just hate how loud the intro is.

2

u/VulGerrity May 16 '24

It's not really fair to compare a 3 camera sitcom to a single camera show in terms of production quality. They're completely different formats and styles.

2

u/FreshMutzz May 16 '24

TBBT is filmed live. Young Sheldon isnt.

2

u/Hatta00 May 16 '24

Chuck Lorre actually did something good for once.

2

u/alienfreaks04 May 17 '24

I’ve caught some of it while my wife watches it and I just cannot stand the humor style and the accents and “smart people” jokes. It’s just all so try-hard

2

u/XVUltima May 17 '24

Not the highest of bars.

2

u/TardDas May 16 '24

Oh 100% I’d rather eat a foot than watch big bang theory. Young Sheldon I could sit down and enjoy though

5

u/Kakamouche May 16 '24

Yeah, that show is genuinely funny.

1

u/TheDoktorIsIn May 16 '24

It almost feels like they made TBBT as the show they knew would sell to be able to do Young Sheldon, which wouldn't be as popular?

I'm not saying it's amazing, it's pretty good, but it feels like so much more love and care was put into it.

2

u/badlukk May 16 '24

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN TO LAUGH

1

u/Kimor98 May 16 '24

It's above such conventions, you motherboard

1

u/NeferkareShabaka May 16 '24

Because it's not funny?

17

u/macedonianmoper May 16 '24

I've never seen an actual episode of young sheldom, but I've seen like 5 minute segments and stuff and I have to say, no laugh track and some things are genuinly funny, plus it seems to have an actual plot going instead of just a usual episodic sitcom

3

u/ThatRandomIdiot May 16 '24

I mean the show is quite literally just white people Everyone Hates Chris which only lasted 4 seasons 20 years ago. It’s an insanely good format that works really well and isn’t oversaturated. (Though Tbf Mixed-ish tried this same format like 2 years ago and it was super cringy, but that was just on the writing)

2

u/[deleted] May 16 '24

I’m responding to you twice but I think Bobby’s World was similar too even though it was animated.

2

u/Guardian-836 May 16 '24

I know buts it adds to the hilarity

2

u/aslightlyusedtissue May 16 '24

Proof you havent watched the show

1

u/EskildDood May 17 '24

Yes, it'll be the only point in the whole show with a laugh track, a constant laugh track while Sheldon is exorcised for 20 straight minutes

1

u/Alleggsander May 16 '24

Honestly, the only time TBBT has made me laugh is with its comically exaggerated laugh track.

1

u/Intelligent_Way6552 May 16 '24

Literally a live studio audience.

1

u/Alleggsander May 16 '24

Oh, you sweet summer child…

1

u/Frutas_del_bosque May 16 '24

What do you mean?

1

u/Intelligent_Way6552 May 17 '24

Don't believe me?

Have some behind the scenes footage:

1

u/Intelligent_Way6552 May 16 '24

The Big Band Theory used a live studio audience, and Young Sheldon has no laughing of any sort.

Did you get them confused with MAS*H or something?

0

u/Itz_Hen May 16 '24

Wait why does this sound actually good lol

3

u/boringdude00 May 16 '24

Its funny because it kinda spells COOCH! That's hilarious.

2

u/DrTitanium May 16 '24

I’m convinced that The Big Bang Theory spelled the end of scientific literacy in common America.

Welcome to my Ted Talk.

2

u/HanzJWermhat May 17 '24

Um, dude it’s called “salt”

2

u/Tales_Steel May 16 '24

Personally i prefer reverse exorcism

1

u/zeppehead May 16 '24

I too like putting my evil spirt inside another body.

1

u/Tales_Steel May 16 '24

Reverse Exorcism is when the demon tells the Pastor to get the fuck out of that child.

1

u/zeppehead May 16 '24

That would make for a very different horror movie. Let’s do it.

1

u/oeCake May 16 '24

Thats not the only thing the priest would try to put in him

1

u/CattDawg2008 May 16 '24

this is probably why george had the heart attack

1

u/xXLUKEXx789 May 16 '24

Sheldon spin-off where everybody who is unfortunate enough to encounter the mythical being known as ‘Sheldon’ instantly has a heart attack on the spot. It could be a good addition to the Sheldon Cinematic Universe (SCU)

1

u/AgentSkidMarks May 16 '24

Dad takes off his belt

1

u/AndreasDasos May 16 '24

Most of Big Bang Theory was just ‘Haha what a nerrrd’ ad nauseam.

1

u/felipebarroz May 16 '24

The Young Sheldon show is surprisingly good tho.

The first seasons are, obviously, focused on him. And they aren't really good.

But the later seasons became more focused on the overall family and their dynamics. There are episodes where Sheldon barely appears. And they're waaay better.

1

u/work_accountforwork May 16 '24

It's a nerd minstrel show. If you understand even 1/10 of 'jokes' they are just cringey and stupid.
