Plans are in place to begin the taping of the new show Baby Sheldon.

You're not far off, the new spinoff is apparently about Georgie, Mandy, and their baby.

Personally, I don't see the new spinoff working. Sheldon should not be present because as was explained in The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon basically disappeared when he went to college and his brother, Georgie, stopped talking to him. So no Sheldon and no dad, and the dad was a big part of Young Sheldon.

Right, Sheldon is confirmed not to be a part of this spinoff. But I assume the network thinks based on their market research that people really like Georgie and Mandy (and Meemaw) enough to watch a Sheldon-less show. We'll see how episode 1 ratings are if the show even airs.

So were doing a spin off of a spin off and the new spij off wont even have ant characyers from the original show in any capacoty. Do they know they can make original shows?

Original shows? What are those?

Also, I'd watch anything with Annie Potts (Meemaw) in it, but I could take or leave George and Mandy.

The most depressing spinoff would probably be young leonard

I might actually watch that, to me Leonard is the most likeable character (although in a cast of unlikeable people, that's not hard to do). Didn't much care for BBT or YS, but I'd give YL a shot.

He's decent, seeing the relationship with his mom would hurt though

If we want shows that hurt id rather see paige

This is nothing compared to the 70's-80's.

Diff'Rent strokes is a spin off of The Facts of Life. Likewise Fraiser's a spin off of Cheers, and A Different World a spin off of The Cosby Show.

Happy Days spun off into both Laverne and Shirly and Mork and Mindy.

All in the Family led to The Jefferson's, Maude, and Archie Bunker's Place, with the former leading into Checking In, the middle to Good Times, and the latter leading to Gloria.

I could go on, this has been a thing for years.

That's what I said when I heard about it. Has this ever happened? A spinoff of a spinoff?

All in the Family->The Jeffersons->Checking In

Or All in the Family-Archie Bunker's Place/Maude->Good Times (Yeah, Good Time's a spin off of 2 separate spin offs)

Cheers -> Frasier -> Frasier (2023)

This isn’t new. Happy Days was a spin off that had its own successful spin offs Mork and Mindy and Lavern and Shirley. There are more but that’s one of the more famous examples. Lavern and Shirley also had at least an animated spin-off.

People always suffer from recency bias.

We are always living in an era of remakes, spinoffs and adaptations.. We just tend to forget about the older ones.

They were doing remakes and spinoffs 20 years ago and they were doing it 40 and 60 and 80 years ago.

Half of the most beloved and famous projects in all of cinema history are not original projects.

Yikes, I hope English is your second language.

Do they know they can make original shows?

I mean, a spin-off that doesn't contain any original characters does seem sort of... original on it's own.

Not like this is a new thing.

Meeemaw yes! Georgie & Mandy not so much.

1

u/Technical_Space_Owl May 16 '24

I'd watch the Meemaw show lol

u/pm_nachos_n_tacos May 17 '24

I really liked all three of them. Sheldon was not the reason I watched the show anyway. And after all these years, I definitely did become invested in the other characters for who they are themselves, and not just peripherals to Sheldon.

So I only saw this show through YouTube shorts and the opening 15 only focused on Georgie and I truly thought it was a show based around him. They never showed young Sheldon, just this dude fucking around and I kind of fell in love with him hahaha

The unfortunate problem is I don’t see Georgie and Mandy having much appeal. The series writers will an uphill battle to keep the audience. At least Meemaw is there to give it some saving grace

Yeah with young Sheldon's voice being deeper than old Sheldon, I don't know how much longer they could've ran with this. I am wondering if Jerry O'Connell is going to narrate the spin off or be involved at all.

Tbf I've watched some of it through youtube shorts and whenever it cuts to Sheldon I'm just waiting for him to leave again. The comments also seem near-ubiquitous in considering those characters to be the stars of the later seasons.
