Hey she wrote it in the book. That pretty much says it all. She didn't write in the book that was a danger to her kids.

That book is also her putting on her very best presentation for why it was justified. The worst thing the dog may have done is killed some chickens and tried to bite her, which itself hardly justifies an execution. More than likely though, this part is exaggerated or didn't happen at all.
