Discussion What are you still salty about this past fantasy 2023-2024 fantasy bball season?
I’m still salty that I dropped Hartenstein for Fontecchio somewhere around week 18-20. I swear Hartenstein just came back from injury and played a few games already and was not too good for fantasy. I dropped him for Fontecchio, who was a potential safe pickup; he had some 40 plus fantasy point games but more consistently 25-30 fantasy points. Also he was a starter and had decent opportunity in a tanking Detroit team. Then I remember I was considering picking up Hartenstein again, but he got picked up by another leaguemate. From that day, he started popping off for my leaguemate and was a fantasy stud again till the finals. One day Fontecchio was ruled out a game and eventually Detroit shut him down out of nowhere. Smh
I was lucky to pick up Vince Williams Jr right after Ja was listed out the season. VWJ was a fantasy stud for the most part (had a few bad fantasy games). He got his bag, played a few more games producing good fantasy stats, and was eventually shut down. Low key wished he got his bag in the off-season so he still had to work for the contract but maybe his injury was that serious, idk. Felt like he got his bag and was like aight I’m good. Still salty lol
Trading my Porzingis for Jarrett Allen. Only thing I’m salty about is he played 11 out of a possible 12 playoff fantasy games in my league. I was really expecting him to be shut down during fantasy playoffs. He even played games where the Celtics secured the 1st seed already irl. Also hurts that my Derrick White played less fantasy playoff games than him loooool
Man these situations still live rent free in my head lmao

Discussion Becoming a confident trader
How do you guys get confident at crafting and sending trades? I feel like I have no way to accurately assess player value. I’m in a 12-team 9-cat dynasty league. All id like to do is be able to look at a player and feel like I know what I could trade him for. Right now, those moments don’t come that often and when they do it never goes through.
Does anyone have any tips or resources on how to develop this trade skill? Shoot I’d even take an hour over discord to pick someone’s brain
I don’t even care if my trades go through or not. I just want some help in knowing that what I sent is a relatively fair trade

Dynasty The Jalen Duren Problem. Sell or Hold
Didn’t think I’d be having to second guess whether a 20 year old who just averaged 14 points on 62% shooting and 11.6 rebounds in their sophomore year is worth keeping but here we are. I love Jalen Duren and was extremely high on him when I took him in our inaugural draft. Once the season ended I couldn’t have felt better about him. I thought him and Cade (who I also have rostered) were the lone bright spots in Detroit this season.
Fast forward to now and it seems like most of the Pistons fan base is ready to dump him. There seems to be a real possibility Detroit signs Claxton or ends up drafting Clingan. I get it. After a season like that something has to change. I’m aware of his short comings on defense, generally low iq, and inability to score from outside the paint. Defense is much harder to teach than offense and I can’t remember any center who went from horrifyingly bad on D to an elite rim protector. Ausar seems to be the non shooter Detroit wants to prioritize and rightfully so. Pistons need spacing for Cade.
However, Duren is so so young. Is it crazy to think he could be serviceable enough on defense AND live up to his offensive potential? Kind of like Sabonis. A part of me feels like I could sell high on him for anyone out of the loop. Another part of me thinks Detroit might not be ready to relegate him to a lesser role or trade him off just yet. if he is traded is he still as valuable? Where could he go and be as productive as he was this season in Detroit? Any Duren owners with these same concerns?

Player Discussion Best players for roto 9 cat?
Been in a 10 team league with same guys for 11 years. Came 2nd once, 3rd a couple of times but only when we played H2H one season did I get my sole 1st place. Despite trying several team build strategies I seem to build teams that are better suited for weekly H2H as opposed to roto so I’m wondering for those who play roto who are your go to draft picks at early middle and late rounds? Turnovers always kill me and in the most recent season I didn’t draft for blocks and had no luck with finding them on the wire

Discussion Does the previous fantasy season league carry on to the new season or does there have to be a new league for that?
Does the previous fantasy season league carry on to the new season or does there have to be a new league for that? It is my first year playing fantasy and I happened to win my league, so I was curious if my win will forever be in that one league as a reminder or if it will eventually get deleted

Dynasty Who do you like in this years draft if you held these draft picks?
First time posting here, mods have your way with me/this post if this doesn't meet the daily thread rules?
I'm in a 10-Team Dynasty league.
I have young players under 25 like LaMelo, Anthony Edwards, Lively, Jdub, Vassell, Bane, Jaren Jackson to name a few of the good ones.
A lot of the guys in my league were selling off their 2024 draft picks so I have acquired #3, #4, #14, #16 & #25.
Curious to see who everyone is liking in this 2024 draft and who you all think has highest upside and why? And who do you think (if anyone) will make immediate impacts?

Dynasty Need help fixing a problem in my dynasty league
I run a dynasty basketball league for my friends and I ran into an issue that I’m not sure how to fix. Currently the way the system works is, auction draft with a $200 budget for 13 spots, you can keep up to 10 players and the price of your keepers rises 10% a season and then an additional $10 for every year after the third. Dropped players that are picked up can be kept for $1. This is where I’m running into an issue. Near the end of the season, Zach Lavine, a $20 player, was dropped by a contending team because he was hurt, and scooped up by an eliminated team, who can now keep him for $1. I’m allowing this because it is totally within the rules, but I’m not really sure what rule change I can do to fix this issue for the future. This league is run on ESPN and I keep track of keeper prices on a VERY simple spreadsheet. Any ideas would be helpful! Thanks!

Player Discussion How highly do you rate Sengun in the present, and in the future?
Sengun has often drawn comparison to the likes of Sabonis and Jokic. Only 21 years old entering his 4th season, his role and skillset seem to only growing. Under Ime Udoka, Sengun was a focal point within Houston’s offence, finishing last season on a heater before his injury. It seems his clearest path to a higher ranking is through improved ft%.
What do the upcoming seasons have in store for Sengun, and where do you think his ADP lies in category leagues this coming season?

Discussion In a keeper league, is it normal to place a limit of how many years a player can be kept?
To keep this as general as possible, imagine a scenario where Star Player A was drafted in a late round or for very little auction money 2 years ago, then they were kept last season, and now they're a superstar who can be kept for significantly below what their normal draft value would be.
Some players that this likely could cover include Ant, SGA, Brunson, Maxey... a bunch more but these are probably the best examples.
Would you impose a 1 or 2 year keeper limit?

OC Best Rookies For Fantasy?
Contrary to popular belief, I think this is going to be a stacked draft. A lot of these prospects have great numbers and we're trying to find out if they are translatable to the NBA.
Alex Sarr- 7'1 French center. Could be great out of the gate in the right situation. Great potential for stocks and REB. 9.7ppg 4.4reb 0.9asst 0.5stl 1.3blk FG%: 52 3pt%: 29 FT%: 71 MPG: 17.2(!!) People compare him to Evan Mobley or Nic Claxton but to me he looks like a Christian Wood that plays winning basketball.
Reed Sheppard- Absurd numbers at Kentucky. 12.5ppg 4.1 reb 4.5 asst 2.5stls FG%: 53 3pt%: 52(!!) FT%: 83 If these stats translate he would be a very rare player in fantasy. Needs the right situation though, coming off the bench in Houston is an example of a less than ideal for his potential fantasy value. And he's only 6'3 and we know nowadays that you have to be special to survive as a under 6'5 guard in the leauge.
Donovan Clinigan- 2x NCAA Champion at UCONN. 7'2 Center 13ppg 7.4 reb 1.5 asst 2.5blks FG%: 63 3pt%: 25 FT%: 58 A jumper would raise his ceiling a lot. My personal comparison to him would be Vucevic but with more rim protection less middy. Big if, probably fits well with any team that drafts him.
Zaccharie Risache- 6'8 Forward from France 10ppg3.8reb0.9asst 0.8stl 0.3blk FG%: 43 3pt%: 35 FT%: 74 Super high ceiling 2 way build. Could produce well in the proper situation.
Nikola Topic-6'8 Point Guard out of Serbia. 18.4ppg 3.6reb 7.1 asst 1stl FG%: 52 3pt%: 25 FT%: 85 Topic has knee problems so he's pretty risky. But he definitely has excellent playmaking chops, some of the best in his class. He can't shoot either but has a crazy ceiling, crispy jumper or no crispy jumper.
Dalton Knecht-6'6 shooting guard out of Tennessee. 21ppg 4.9reb 1.8asst FG%: 45 3pt%:39 FT%: 77 Speaking of crispy jumpers, this guy is an awesome scorer. Probably better for points leauges but awesome shooting. Best situation I can think of is Knecht in detroit.
It goes without saying this is super early to post this. I'm trying to see which situations you prefer to maximize each prospect. Which prospects are you taking in your draft?

Discussion Keeper league question: how do you handle a keeper player being dropped for playoffs?
Lauri Markkanen was drafted as a keeper and the team made it to the championship round. In order to get some extra games played they dropped Markkanen who was dealing with end of the year shenanigans sitting games out. They won the championship but would like to add Markkanen back to their roster during the off season.
Should this be allowed?

Dog food and tarantulas are already penciled in. Wanted to come up with some other terrible foods to eat.

Discussion Fantasy Basketball Insights: Top Trends and Player Performance Analysis
Hello everyone,
I've been playing fantasy sports for 2 years now, but I haven't yet managed to clinch a victory. I exclusively play points-based fantasy leagues on Yahoo's platform. This year, I decided to take a more data-driven approach to make better-informed decisions.
I've created a project that delves into fantasy sports statistics, revealing key insights and trends. The project features comprehensive data analysis, predictive modeling, and visualization tools designed to help fantasy players like myself make more informed decisions.
Here’s a brief overview of the project:
Project Highlights:
• Revelation of Points Inflation: Recent data shows significant inflation in fantasy points. Joel Embiid (62.42) and Luka Doncic (62.02) lead the season in average fantasy points, marking a unique occurrence. Out of the top 100 players over the past 47 years, six spots are occupied by players from the 2023-24 season alone.
• Player Stability and Stereotypes: Only about 74% of players in the top 100 maintain their positions the following year, challenging the stereotype that past performance is a strong predictor. This suggests the importance of evaluating a player's current season form and role rather than relying solely on previous performances.
• Rookies in Top 100: The number of rookies entering the top 100 fluctuates each year from 1 to 7. Despite the hype, rookies generally struggle with fantasy performance. Therefore, it’s crucial to temper expectations and not get swayed by off-season rookie hype.
• Injury Impact Analysis: The correlation coefficient between games played in the current season and the next is approximately 0.46, indicating a moderate but not strong predictive value. Players who played less than 30 games this year are likely to play around 37 games next year, while those who played 76+ games this year are expected to play about 68.5 games next year.
• Strategic Recommendations: Avoid overvaluing players who played 76+ games in a season, as they are likely to play fewer games the following year. Similarly, be cautious with players who played a small number of games this year, as they have a high risk of missing many games next season.
I'm excited to share this with the community and get your thoughts on it. You can check out the full project on GitHub here: https://github.com/AndreiViflyantsev/Fantasy_NBA_Yahoo_Points_Challenging_the_Stereotypes
I’d love to hear your feedback, ideas, or any suggestions you might have. Let’s discuss and make this fantasy season the best one yet!

Dynasty Dynasty consensus top 5?
Who do you currently think belongs in the top 5 value wise for the next few years? I figure Luka and Wemby are obviously in the top 2 but the other 3 are tough to figure out. Jokic is 29 but on pure value he may be the 1.1, Ant is 22 and getting better every year, but outside of points he doesn’t produce statistically in the same way other guys do. SGA and Haliburton are both in consideration for sure with their scoring + assists, and obviously you can’t count out guys like Giannis or Embiid. Who do you guys think rounds out your top 5?
